  • CC2 - that HMP session sounds a bit mental! Not surprised it didn't happen. I think most would need conditions to be perfect to pull that off.
TR - good call for Sunday. Amongst some mild and still weeks it seems you've picked the two worst weekends for some pre marathon racing.
OO - April indeed approaching fast. I'm sure it'll all come together.
Wardi - consistency from you as ever. Nice work on the jalfrezi. Not sure me, spicy curries and any running would go well.
TT - glad things are getting a bit better and you are getting consistency and some heads pace from your running. Really like the look of your track sessions, I do miss them.

No running from me. Knee specialist has sent me for an MRI but there's a 2 week wait to even get booked in which is a little frustrating. separately my physio has conceded there may be a little more than ITB going on. He said it's very unusual for it not to settle. Still in no man's land but hopefully will make some progress this month.
  • TR - same with the frustration. I'm slowly adapting to doing what I'm able to, even if it's not what I want to do. Tough luck on the weather/race front (again).
Wardi - nice on the MLR. I'll need another adjustment, but definitely much better for it.
OO - I'd rather be thinking in months than weeks, but I'm treating Manchester as just part of the process of getting fit again rather than as a target race.
joe - sorry to read it's taking so long to get answers. Fingers crossed for you.
Track last night was a bit of a bust. I've been in the middle of my biggest fibro flare for years over the last few weeks, but have been following the specialist's advice to just try to carry on as normal and not let it get the better of me; tbf I've been managing better than previously so there's definite merit in the 'try to tough it out' approach.
I managed 1 set of {2km, 1600, 1200m} @ ~10k pace (7:17, 5:49, and 4:17 against a theoretical target pace of 88s per lap). With the benefit of hindsight I should have gone for longer recoveries, and possibly eased the pace to HM, but still a win as I wasn't curled up on the sofa feeling sorry for myself. Lol.

TT.. kudos due for getting through that session without collapse or falling asleep 🙂.

Joe.. that must be so frustrating but I hope these appointments make some progress for you.

Short double with 4m + 5m today.  A windy day today though tomorrow looks very calm.  Saturday looks charming with strong winds & rain!
  • Frustrating yes. So easy to get the knee specialist appointment but then almost 4 weeks for the MRI scan felt a bit bizarre but it's partly down to my private health provider. Anyway I'm booked in for 25th Feb so that's the next milestone.
  • TRTR ✭✭✭
    Well toughed out TT

Blimey Joe, you've had an unlucky trot the last year or so

Wardi - a wet and windy weekend is forecast. Probably be fine the following weekend - im not racing.

Got a bit of a cold so judt 6m easy home tonight, but ive done a 10k, mlr and 10m inc +10% already this week, so an easy couple of days before chasing a decent long run saturday.

Joe - Your experiences remind me of previous times when when I couldn't run at all for  2 years with stress fractures and then slightly compromised with sore knees but it passes. I am (far) older than you and you do have time on your side.
    TT - Sounds a session best d&d.

Easy run along the coast this morning with the dog and the sun. This to follow a hardish day yesterday 13m with 10 @ 6.48 which felt like fast jogging, so taking that as a good sign.
  • Wardi: sorry, I've been off-forum for a couple of days as work has been very busy.  A lint free cloth wiped over them.  If they are so clogged with rosin that doesn't work they might be due to be replaced!

5 miles this morning: and what a beauty it was!  Is there anything better than a frosty, clear morning, with the sun just peaking over the horizon as your run begins?
  • WardiWardi ✭✭✭
Thanks for the tip Jools.  That sounds like a memorable run, clear and crisp is good.

TR.  I received a race entry this morning that I'd almost forgotten about (Snake Lane 10).  Last weekend in Feb so I'm hoping the weather will have settled down by then. :/

OO.. Great 10 mile section in that 13 miler, nicely done.

Nice clear conditions here too,  had an easier day with a single 5.3m.  The weekend looks dreadful up here, windy & wet.
  • TRTR ✭✭✭
OO - fast jogging at 6.48s bodes well

Jools - id take a warm sunny day instead of a cold sumny day

Wardi - looks dreadful here too, esp sunday. Feb 27rh will be fine, after this Sundays 1/2 my next race is April.

6m eaay home today, hopefully get a decent long run done tomorrow.
  • TRTR ✭✭✭
Ive just got a slight headcold and felt ok once i got going, so decided to do the same 5.5m, 10m steady, 5.5m as 2 wks ago. Today the 10m was av 6.52 as against 6.59 last time, with a slighty lower av HR on a windier day. Although i was probably a bit fresher today. Onwards and upwards, 6 solid marathon specific weeks is the aim.
  • WardiWardi ✭✭✭
TR.. that's a decent long run with a solid MP section, particularly as you were a bit off colour.  Hope the wind wasn't too sapping.

Just over 9m today inc. the Parkrun.  I wasn't going to bother with the latter but it was forecast dry this morning so talked myself into it.  There was the predicted strong wind to contend with for 1.5k or so but I was pleasantly surprised to knock 6 secs off last week's effort with 22.08.  Just got the top up miles done before the rain started.  It's been horrible up here this afternoon. :|
  • TR - That's a super run, your plan of running long today and DNS the half marathon has paid off.   Yes, the April marathons are getting close now.
Wardi - Well done, tougher conditions and a faster time.
Jools - That weather seems moons away now.

A few days of easy doubles for me, 12m y'day and 10m today all around 8.30 mm.  Long running tomorrow, assuming a few domestic arrangements work out and the weather is not too bad.
  • TRTR ✭✭✭
Well done wardi, tough running conditions lately.

OO - good double digiting, how did you go today ? Agreed, sods law re the 1/2 but i needed the 21m after lasts wks 10k meaning no long run. Not sure if I'll bother finding any more races before April. The main Brighton predictor is 13.1m mp 3 wks out within a 20m.
  • WardiWardi ✭✭✭
10m today which included a club off road handicap race (6.6m).  Out and back on a local farm track, lots of mud and large puddles to deal with along with strong winds and sqaully rain.  Not sure my off road shoes were quite up to it!

63m for the week, I reckon I've just about earned tonight's Balti.

TR - You made the right call with yesterday's LR. I've a HM 2 weeks out from Manchester but it's a hilly one, so will just use as a MP session. There are a few other HM in March which could tempt me. I think a race in March could be a good idea for you?
Wardi - Consistently good mileage again, well done, you certainly deserve your Balti. Sure was squelchy out.

Finally able to do my LR around 2.30 this afternoon. Same plan as last week, same weather and more or less same route. Again a P&D 20%+mp and 10%+mp run which cane out roughly 7.55 and 7.25, so a few seconds faster than last weeks though far windier. So that's 3*20m+ runs d&d. Rewarded myself with a chilli and a Sheppys cider. C75m for the week, which is very good for me.
  • WardiWardi ✭✭✭
Some good paces in that long run OO, a well deserved cider & tucker!

My legs were a bit frazzled yesterday so cut my intended 6m to 4m.
Suitably refreshed a decent 4.3m+8m double today. Out with the club tonight in nice conditions, the wild wind arrives tomorrow.
  • TRTR ✭✭✭
Feels like marathon training now, 14m monday, 5 and 5 yday, 10 inc 12x3mins this morning. Bit of a wild ride home tonight.
  • WardiWardi ✭✭✭
Good miles banked TR, certainly looks like 'batten down the hatches' weather for the next few days.

10.5m today, had to change my route as my usual quiet country lanes had become a rat run due to an accident on the nearby main road.  Managed to avoid the rain which arrived around noon.
  • Looking forward to seeing how CD/ Joe Bloggs go at Seville, envious.
SJ/ RunJoe - How things going?

TR - Time to be in the marathon zone.
Wardi - Nice 10.5m, going to be an interesting few days weather wise.  I am slap bang in the red weather zone, "risk of death"!

10k TT yesterday.  38.02 nearly a minute faster than the previous one 10 days ago, happy with that, especially as the wind was crazy at times. A few more planned and hopefully be 37 something when Manchester comes round.
  • WardiWardi ✭✭✭
OO.. envious here too, I love the Spanish marathons.  Best of luck to the chaps.
Storming 10k TT there, bodes very well for you.  It does look rough down in the SW, if you disappear for a few days I'll assume you've been struck by a flying wheelie bin!  :/

6.5m + 4.3m double today.  Made the most of outdoor runs today as I will probably retreat to the treadie tomorrow.
  • TRTR ✭✭✭
OO  - is Joe still racing Seville ? Hope you survive the storm with no damage.

Probably wise tomorrow wardi, my run in is going to be wild.

10m here, saw a kingfisher as i crossed a small stream, which is a running first.
  • OO - you are going well. hope the storm largely passes you by and you don't tempt yourself into a 10k with a 100mph tailwind.
TR - good longer running and great spot with the kingfisher.
Wardi - not surprised you were fried after that club run. that would not be my cup of tea.

MRI is booked for next Friday and follow up with consultant 10th March ( should have been a week earlier but I am teaching and he only does Tuesdays and thursdays). So I should hopefully have a better idea for some next steps in around 3 weeks. Haven't attempted anything apart from some walking as there really doesn't feel like any point until I know what's up. But I've made peace with that as there's plenty of 2022 left.

Shame ypur still not back at it Joe, good job you're a young dude, plenty of running years ahead.

5m and 5m double. 122mph measured at IoW, you know its wild the Portsmouth to IoW car ferry is disrupted.
  • WardiWardi ✭✭✭
Good luck Joe, I do hope your patience pays off.  When I had a niggle fairly recently I went for 5-6m walks which eased the frustration a bit.

Nice double TR, it does sound wild down there.

Easier day with 5.2m on the treadie.  Too wild outside for my liking, one gust blew under our eaves and opened two doors in succession!  Never seen that before!
    No damage thankfully.

Wardi - yep, bit breezy. Luckily ive been preparing for it with all those windy races at Goodwood.
  • OO - nice 10k TT. I've got a few of those planned in as well. Good overall training too.
TR - very positive steady section in that long run. We get quite a few kingfishers and herons in the country park near us. Always nice to see.
Wardi - good rain dodging skills in the midst of some good training there.
Joe - hopefully the MRI will give you some clarity on where you're at.

I'm having my best week of training in a long while. 5km TT (10km effort) on track on Wednesday - 18:28 (wind and overtaking on a busy track probably worth about 20s) + 4 x 200m (36s), followed up with 17m yesterday (all easy bar 6 x 430m hills in the middle of it). I'm slowly regaining some fitness, but more importantly the love for it.
  • That sounds positive, TT.

Work continues to be exceptionally busy, but thankfully only 3 weeks to go, and then I've got the best part of 3 weeks off to collapse and recover.  Storm Eunice also prevented running yesterday morning as we were within a red alert area.  6 miles steady on Thursday and 7 with some strides today.
  • TRTR ✭✭✭
TT -  few positives from that week then, good for you.

Jools - 3 wks off sounds good, are you going away?

I wasnt in any rush to cop another forecast wind and rain beating today, with a hopeful 22m to look forward to. Plenty of tree debris to dodge in the lanes, was getting windy, and i wasnt really up for it so decided to do 8 or 9 and then push on for some approx +10% for the rest, but the wind was probably going to prevent that so i might have to chug it out. The wind and rain showed up at 8m and i couldnt face plodding out another 14m in that, so i appeased myself with being able to stop at 20m if i got that far. So pushed on and did 12m a bit slower than +10% to tick a box, probably one of my most grim, rainy and windy 20s, had to push on to run downhill into the wind at one point.

TT.. good to see you getting back into the bigger miles and enjoying it.

TR.. that grim 20 deserves a few beers, deffo not the best weather for long runs or MLR's currently.
Jools.. sensible decision yesterday, hope it was calmer for you today.
A lantern parade to celebrate the anniversary of the re-opening of our town bridge has been cancelled tomorrow.  The combination of delicate lanterns and 45mph gusts would surely have ended in tears. :'(
As this morning looked like the best part of the day I decided on the same plan as last week which was 10m inc. Parkrun.  The winds dropped down from yesterday's storms to 12-15mph early today.  The Parkrun was a bit slower than last week but I never seem to run well in low temps (3 degrees earlier).  However I did get home about 30 mins before the rain which turned to snow in the afternoon.  Not very windy at all here today but it is due to return all day tomorrow.

Wardi - shame re the lantern parade, i remember the bridge damage.

We had gales again here, but it was turbo day for me anyway.
