Exertional rhabdomyolysis

What is it, how much is known about it, and what can be done to alleviate it?

also do a Google search and stick in 'polysaccaride storage myopathy' but spell polysaccaride properly because I haven't! You'll find an article there by Beth Valentine which is interesting.

BTW - are you' well muscled' - ?!! I am - you'll see why I ask if you read these articles

Be aware that this is what kills eg recruits on training runs with the Marines - because the muscle damage waste matter blocks the kidneys - permantly. You therefore don't cope with it - you have to learn to recognise the signs and manage it - changing your training to order - and drink LOADS. I have kept going - but am still uneasy about the long term effects - most 'sane' people that go through what we do don't keep going - so there's no research done on it really for humans - but horses are far more valuable.

I'll e-mail you more stuff later today

  • Have read some of the articles, so now understand more of the risks, what I can't yet find is any informaiton on how to avoid / manage/ live with a tendency towards that.

Well muscled - lol. I'm fat. However, when I exercise I exchange for visible muscle, and I do build strength quite easily compared to some, and yes, in those terms I am.

Have always drunk a lot of water (not diabetic) compared to other people. Will keep doing so.

Off to read the articles, thanks.
