Recently went to give blood and was informed that my Hb was on the low side, a sample was sent for clinical analysis. ( I was not allowed to donate)
Had the results back today, including a breakdown with all the figures on it.
The Hgb is 11.66 which I thought was borderline even being low, have been advised by NBS to make an appointment to see my GP.
Is this strictly necessary? I just feel I would be wasting his time, I have the full counts I can post if it helps!

Perhaps one of the forum GPs will pop along in a minute and give their opinion!
that is within the normal range for our hospital
but too low for blood donation, which would make you anaemic
Next time you try and give blood I bet you'll be fine.
i usually take multivits with iron for a week or two either side of giving blood, just to make sure i've got plenty of iron to spare & will recover quickly, and my iron has always been fine since i started doing that.
Hipps the MCV was 76.69
They were the two figures highlighted on the lab results!
might be worth getting some iron down you-IF you can hack the gut side effects
SOP-apparently yes it can
If you decide to take supplements, try using SpaTone.....it is very good, bioavailable iron, and doewnt make your poo black....(or bung you up entirely)
I used it when the gp tried to tell me i was too anaemic to have a homebirth....ha....

Thanks Hipps, have decided not to make an appt to see the GP, think it would be a waste of her time!
hwads up to black Hat on the Sap tomn, tho it dioes still affect me, tho not as bad as the tablets
(I just wish it WAS constipation)
i found it worked fine...
Thanks Peeps.
but
i reckon without it i would be a lot heavier as most of my food just goes straight through
and it will stain the white insides of mugs grey BTW
2 paaaaasties please!
2 paaaaaaaasties..... no problemo!
Think I will have to bring a few spares too!
I would suggest you need to have things checked a little further. Whilst it is possible your loss is with periods etc it would be nice to know. The most common cause of Occult loss is in the gut and if you are bleeding slowly in the gut we need to know why.
My advice, and I am only a GP would be to see your GP, even if it is just for a repeat FBC - Sorry
I hadn't been running for three months ( due to work commitments)prior to starting again three weeks before attending the donor session. I gave blood back in March too and I had hoped that the combination of these two factors were probably the reason for the problem. Can give you all the count results if it helps at all?
I am off on holiday Thursday am, and know that the chance of getting to see my GP before then unless an emergency is slim. I don't want to take an emergency appt if its not strictly necessary. ( I am away for two weeks)
I think its ok until I get back from hols?
Teh rest of the count would be helpful but I am sure all will be well.
What are your periods like?
actually
RBC 4.524
HGB 11.66
HCT 34.69
MCV 76.69
MCH 25.77
MCHC 33.61
RDW 17.16
Periods average to light I guess, as far as stress goes the only factor would be having started a new job at the end of March, I don't feel stressed about it though!
(working with chocolate everyday who would be???) LOL
