Im actually not eating that much
calories coming from drink!
The dairy milk and mars bar(bought by hubby)
are still on my windowsill

However, am bereft of self confidence today, so will run when it is dark
BTW, meant kids shouting out of bus windows

...but are you eating enough of the right stuff....if not you're body will shut down to conserve fat stores.....WHY am I telling you this....you're a doctor for goodness sake....you know these things.... :0)

Self esteem is hard to hold onto on a bad day....think how much you have already achieved.....I couldn't run a marathon in at all so you are already well ahead of me.

Vrap...'Lighten Up' by Pete Cohen. It has it's patronising bits like all these books but the essence of it is relly good. It is to do with motivation and mental approach. No calorie counting or anything, I can honestly say that this week just taking time to think is making a big difference to my approach to food. It has got me off self destruct for now at least and I already am not looking at my 'fear' foods as bad but as something I can happily enjoy as long as they are what my body really wants at the time. Time will tell obviously but he has a lot of very very relevant things to say about why we have certain attitudes to eating and how we re-inforce the bad habits all the time and become obsessive , compulsive dieters who generally never succeed in the long term. For now I actually believe that I can do this if it is what I want to do.........

Watch this space...I hope I don't end up eating my words as well as the chocolate....

First chance to visit all day!! - annual budget process - yuch!. Have had a quick scan through the last couple of pages and can totally agree with SP on the Pete Cohen book v-rap. It's what started me on the transformation route and gave me the confidence to ditch the diet and start moving. I actually went to a one day seminar with him last year - v.powerful stuff.

Hope you do get out Hippo, I know how tough it is when you feel low, but those endorphins really do help.

Oh well, back to the red pen and the calculator for me.........

Hi Katy....I'm finding it slightly scary to give up counting the calories and rely on intuition, common sense and excersise so although I am sold on the approach I'm nervous about results. It is really good to hear from someone who has done it and can tell me it worked for them, ( you're not on commission are you? :0) ) It is just what I need to reinforce this belief I've only just found that I can do it.

Sounds interesting, SP. Must have a look - I have one food-related neurosis (an avoidance of certain types of processed foods without any real physical aversion to them) which may play a part in my tendency to have difficulty maintaining my weight at a high mileage. And if it doesn't help with that, it might give me some good cliches to pull out of the hat at work.

No SP, I promise I'm not on commission. I worked my way through the book, week by week - at about week 4 I stopped feeling a prat with the visualisation stuff and realised that I was actually eating exactly what my body and taste buds wanted, and surprise!! - it wasn't chocolate. Stick with it. I know what you mean about it being scary - I've spent half my life (literally!) counting fats, calaries, starving etc. The freedom from that is amazing. BTW - I also lost 2 & half stone...

It's certainly worth a look. I firmly believe that we all respond to different thing and whats good for the goose isn't neccesserily good for the gander but I'm happy so far!!!

Katy...fantastic weight loss. I want to lose about a stone and a half. I have also spent half my life weighing food and counting calories. What was a relevation to me was that that is ,in itself, a really bad habit keeping me thinking of food all the time even when I'm not hungry. I WILL stick with it? Can I email you if I get stuck?

Course you can e mail me SP - I tend to only pick up e mails at work in the week but i do pick up at home at the weekends (can't be ar*ed dragging my laptop home every night).....which is probably why I'm hopeless at keeping up with the forums!Can never, ever get access to the hubbies PC at night - still, keeps him nicely out of the way.

hi all, had a busy week so I haven't been abke to post much. Mini Frag has stopped his daytime sleep (he's 2 on friday) and is getting overtired and irritable (oh, and er so am I!), so it's really hard at the moment.
Went out for a fantastic run last night (now how often do the words 'fantastc' and 'run' appear in the same sentence?), did 4.5 miles very hilly farlek and just felt really good - guess grim did me some good after all.

Fraggle , funnily enough fantastic and run were in the same sentance for me last night unexpectedly. Did my very hilly 4 miles in 41:31 which for me is pretty good, and I felt great. This mornings tread mill however did not have the same effct!!!!!!!!!!!
