Your bees are a bit late aren't they Seren? I have a couple of bee nests in my garden - I love them! I've done a lot of colour planting for them this year and am 'cultivating' a wild patch for next year.
Well done for your recent Lakeland Dave. How long are you retired for?
Morning all....I have a weekend away in Liverpool with my mother...and my son for half of it....could do with a weekend home as I will be away the following Four weekend.....hoping my calf muscles can handle the driving....the 2500 miles in France seem to have taken their toll
Thanks Limper, first day in ten days without analgesia yesterday. A bit sore this morning but so much better. Chiropractor on Monday...
Our bees are slow to arrive this year...in fairness the lavender has been slow too, which probably explains it. I'm about to try the copper tape around some pots as the slugworths are in full effect. Not sure if it will work but it's worth a go. Apparently.
Seren - my bees (red bottomed and white bottomed) really like blue / purple plants. Borage is good but unruly. Purple lavenders and clover are very popular. As I understand it - the more vibrant the flower colour, the 'louder' the message is to bees.
Thanks for the heads-up about coffee grouts. I throw mine on the garden every day but didn't know they helped with slugs. I have an awful slug problem (oo-er ). They keep eating the purple flowers that belong to my bees!! Where do I get copper tape?
Glad your neck is improving Mrs F. 10 days is a long time to suffer with it though. You must be exhausted. Hope the chiropractor helps.
Copper tape from the garden centre, I got 5m roll of adhesive tape to stick around my hosta pots for a fiver. You can also get copper surrounds for around ground planted plants (IYKWIM).
Do filter coffee grounds work like espresso grounds, Dave? I assume so...?
thanks for the coffee tip ... my waitrose has a bucket at the front door for coffee grounds, I shall keep mine to myself now! I shall decant my coffee pods, the slugs have had one of my plants (I forget the name of it)
Entered IM Mallorca today ... that focusses ones attention somewhat
We drink a lot of really decent ground coffee. I'm glad to think I'll be making use of the grouts from now on rather than just throwing it on our 'midden heap'! Now - what do I do about the aphids that are eating random lupins?!
Lots of release work at pilates last night, my shoulders feel like they've done they've been through a mangle. Hopefully a gentle swim might sort them out.
looks like some people have had a hugely active weekend whilst others seem to have been celebrating significant occasions. Hooray to all.
I've done some ironing an caught up with the TdF, but I do have a swimming cossie with me and the intention to practice a bit ahead of the Nottingham big swim weekend.
That sounds like Ultra Ironing Fefe! I have to say, it's not the sport for me.
I'm looking forward to my weekend - daughter and I are doing a midnight marathon! It's off road and hilly so I'm expecting it to be more of a joggywalk than a run. Hopefully it'll stay dry and the nearly-full moon will light the way!
not really ultra ironing, just incompetence in loading the washing machine, so I failed to put all the shirts in a single wash.
Midnight marathon sounds interesting, I'd be worried about tripping. You must post a photo of the medal when you're done (I think Meldy will like it). Hope you and daughter have a fun and safe time.
I am resting this weekend.....well meeting some fellow pirates for a few drinks and then marshalling on the bike course for the cotswolds 226...
we are hoping to do a parkrun on the way .. Yate is closed for the day so might try pomphrey hill as its not far off our route...
managed to get the speical fourth medal for teh long course weekend so another box ticked.....and true to my word I havent booked anymore races.. I will wait until I can actually manage some training....
got the lakelands 50 at the end of the month but will probably walk lots of it...
off to Uni today for prizegiving so will have to try and get something smartish on
We have found somewhere to buy our favourite Hawaiian beers online 48 bottles of Longboard (Funkin) and 48 bottles of Big Wave (me) arrived yesterday. We are celebrating the scaffolding coming down with a beer and Le Tour catch up.

My wild patch seems to be all purple limper ... do bees prefer some colours over others
Afternoon all,
I'll resist the Finbar Saunders opening.
Will stretching sort your calf Seren or is it need something more serious.
Lets see if I can embed a bee vision flower

The slugs round here need a proper talking to
Copper tape works well with slugs, also the coffee grounds from the espresso machine sprinkled round the plants works well too

Yeah, just the rough coffee grounds stop them

I offered some flights for Mallorca this week....did not book my bike on it.
Those coffee pods need to find a recycling use so alls good

Been out this afternoon watching the Skiddaw fell race, I thought IM racing was mad, these people are nutters !
Morning all,
looks like summer might have arrived then.

I think we are some way from summer in these parts ....early spring maybe
summer is bound to arrive about Saturday/Sunday - I am on nights

I do the ironing watching the TdF
morning btw
I did some ironing while watching the TdF, some watching the F1 and a teeny bit watching the tennis. Multi-sport-tastic.
