  • Good Luck Shimmy !!!!   Dont forget your headtorch!! image The Midnight challenge is on!  Very best of luck, how do you feel?
  • Nice one, Shimmy!!! Enjoy Primal Scream!

SDM; I'd love to live near Brighton, but we probably need to move to a cheaper house, very close to the Eurostar, to make our travel to Europe a bit more straightforward. If we could save up the dosh, the idea would also be to get a pied-a-terre in Belgium, so we could stay there when the Europe work was heavy, to save dosh on travel and hotels, and to be a bit more on-hand where I work. But it's all pie-in-the sky for the moment!
  • I have new batteries for the headtorches and I'm ready!!!!

    Thanks Benyo.  image

  • Good luck Shimmy, you'll be fab!

I'm just back from a meeting in Oxford, was going for a bike ride as feel bad for only doing 1hr at this gym this morning, but the weather is awful!  I guess I need to rest up for the Belvoir Challenge tomorrow!  Oh well, shall do the housework, I suppose that's a good work out!

  • Bliddy hell, give yourself a break.

    REST!!!

  • ............'feel bad for only doing an hour....................' FFS Claire get a grip !! Have you ever considered performance gains that  you might get from occasional easing off ?? (I was going to put 'rest' but as you've already done an hour in the gym that wouldn't be right would it...................................)image
  • righty, I'm on the RW supporters team so I shall be there at Mudchute with ma pom poms to cheer you on.  Put your orders in for jelly babies and snack items.
  • are you going to have a nice sit down and a cup of tea now?
  • I'm still doing the housework Shimmy, keep having breaks in between....then I'll have a rest tonight as Nige is cooking me a pasta dinner!
  • Thanks Shimmy...what time does your race start?  I'm going to have to get to bed real early as have to leave for the race at 6.15am!

Has anyone heard or tried IsoGel's?  My fizzy gave me one to try last night, as I was complaining that the gels I take make me ill after a race.   This one is water based, so going to give it a whirl tomorrow.

  • Make sure I'm in your group Shimmy!!imageimageimageimageimageimage

At the last minute, with the film in place, the box maker rings to say they haven't put any glue on the lids...fingers crossed for Monday

  • Out of TW Half this Sunday  no significant improvement and going to GP and asking for an x ray on tuesday. Not run properly for 4 weeks. Weight increasing, knee very aching and feels kinda clunky like cartilage damage. image   VLM chances getting slimmer. Don't worry Im not gonna top myself just yet !
  • Oh Benyo image  Think that's a good idea to get an x ray, its gone on long enough, you need to get it looked at proper so you can start sorting it out and getting better.  Thinking of you, it must be so frustrating.
  • this does sound serious Benyo...hope its ok.

Rob is 19 today so we went for an Italian and we're back here watching Shaun of the Dead. Class.

Claire I've been feeling sick after long runs lately, I use SIS gels,  never had any problems before but this year definite nausea.

  • Benyo, Stiff upper lip and all that. Hope the X ray shows up the problem. I'd see if you can get them to MRI it. Its much more effective and quicker in the end. Does your company give you private healthcare, then you could claim for it.

Cr*p week.  PC lost my log in for here so using a temporary one. Haven't run since Tuesday and not sure if I'll be able to tomorrow. Will try and get out early if I can.  Doing a X Country for the club on Sunday, so will run over to the event about 8 Miles. Should run back as well but would be a bit far in all.

Anyway have a good weekend all. Off to bed

  • Company? The NHS?? Give you nothing. Will mention MRI to GP.
  • Oh of course, I forgot you are already a 'victim' of the NHS. Sorry.

Well definitely push for the MRI then. they should be keen to look after their own.  tell them its an Occupational Health issue and the sooner they get you better the sooner you can focus on work again properly. Because obviously you can't do that if you are worried about your running!

  • Benyo - what rotten luck. I hope the scan results are clear for you. You've had a superb run in the past several months, so here's hoping the problem is not serious.

I did 16.5 miles today on varied terrain, including hills in the early stages, and am heartily relieved that I am getting into long run territory. With just over 8 weeks to go, I am feeling better about where I am at the moment, although I think it will be in Edinburgh (late May) that I reach my best. We shall see.

Off to Belgium tomorrow, but Eurostar not operating normally, so who knows where I'll roll up, and when? Then to Basel, then back to Belgium - and finally I'll be home for my birthday, and OH is taking me to a luxe hotel for a meal!!! Whoop!!

Shimmy - race report? I hope you've really enjoyed it!
  • You sound so happy Dalya, what a contrast to how it was a few months ago.  I remember Mrs Puffy lost her job around the same time as Mr D and she's in a dream job for her now, you just never knowimage.

I remember getting lost in Basel and a kind Swiss took pity and led us out to the motorway...

Chelsea in disarray today, what a shambles!

  • Puffy, what a nice thing to write. Mr D is making a big and positive impression as a higher education consultant in Europe - so if his work keeps rolling in, we'll be fine!

My current job is also a dream job, and the funny thing about it is that, if you calculate by the hour, I am better paid! The only problem is that the contract ends in August 2011. But hey: that's 18 months from now, and so much can happen.

I'm really glad to hear that Mrs Puffy has also landed on her feet.

Switzerland is going to be interesting. We've been put up in a casino hotel, so if get bored at the meetings, I can always skive off and play Baccarat. Not that I know how to play: I just associate the game with Sean Connery looking impossibly classy in his opening Bond shot (in Dr. No). How is it that some people can play cards and look suave, while others just look like idiots?
  • Hey everyone...well that was a tough race, tougher than Chelwood I think, just hard going in the mud.  I don't feel ill though which is really good news..to be honest I could have pushed myself a bit more, but didn't want to race it and feel after it.  Not a great time, 2hrs 13mins, not sure on my place yet.  My legs are ripped to shred from the brambles, they're really sore.

Gel was fine.  Oh, and our mens captain, who is a great chap, so supportive, came 1st - first time ever, really pleased for him.

    Dalya, that's a great run...you've  a busy week ahead.

Sorry Mr P, but couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch of blokes!!!  Could have done with Man City loosing really though.  Lets hope we stuff Man U tomorrow!

  • I think Bridge should have shook hands and buried it.  It is never going to go away like this. He's cut off his nose to spite his face with England.
  • I disagree Mr P...Terry needs to apologise...he's the one that's done wrong, not Bridge.
  • You're right of course, but I still think Bridge had the opportunity to turn off the gas under the pot and make Terry look small as a result.
  • Yeah, know what you mean, it's just going to run on and on otherwise
  • Hi all,

Oh Benyo, that injury does sound nasty.  Really hope you get it sorted out soon.

    Race report.

This is a super fab race.  Really recommend it.  Managed to get lost finding the place, (well, wouldn't be a Shimms race if we didn't get lost)

We just couldn't find the right turn off the A299 and kept on going up and down the same bit of 299 until we found the right turn off.  Once we got the right turn off we found a pub and asked there if they could point us to the race pub and found out it was the right pub.  Bonus!!

We were able to sit in the pub with an open fire whilst we waited for the race to start with a nice cup of tea and a muesli bar.

The race director is a really nice bloke and gave us a pep talk before we set off.  He made sure we were all covered in glow sticks then they set off a firework and off we plodded.

The course was great.  Totally flat apart from one bridge.  It also seems to flow down if anything.

There was one really muddy bit which was the middle of the figure of 8 course.

An amazing abundance of water stops with energy bars, tea, cake, burgers, fizzy cola bottles (thanks JFDI Support crew).

Mr Shimms ankle was playing up and he was planning to drop out at 20 miles.  I was going to carry on but in the middle of the third lap I got amazing cramps in both legs from the hips down then it started going into my back.  In the last mile before getting back to the HQ I was barely running I was in so much pain.

We got back to the HQ and dropped out.  Nice bowl of veggie pasta soup and a roll.  We werent the only ones to drop out at 20m.  It was a hard course underfoot.  Mixture of terrains.  Concrete paths, gravel, mud, grass.  Trail shoes were needed for the mud but were hard going on the concrete.

We will be back for the 50 mile challenge though.  Road shoes for that one.

Well done on your race Claire and on your training run Dalya.

Mr P.  I will make sure you are in my group.
