  • flat i believe - bit exposed as mostly round an airfield - and considered fast

Alchester v good at putting on races and commenting on things so i'm sure one of them will be along shortly to tell you how fantastic a race it is :o)

i considered it but it's the morning after our club christmas party so will probably restrict myself to helping rather than running
  • It is quick - a very slight incline in the 1st kilometre then flat all the way. The middle section is around an airfield. Last year it was foggy which made the course oddly atmospheric. You seem to get a good spread of standards as well.
  • Ihave entered this, had a choice of this or the bedford half but this has one the day with the possible chance of a new pb over this distance.
just completed 2 halfs in the past 8 days re kenilworth and cardiff and have now got a race every weekend right up to xmas.
  • I'm in too :-)
  • I did this last year, and will probably have a go this year as well. I'd like to think I could get a PB on this course if I put the right training in...
  • I'll be up for this, it will be good to keep the running going to keep fit for the skiing season!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mind you after doing the Abingdon marathon yesterday my legs are screaming NO!!!!!!!!!!! at me.
  • Did this last year and got a PB.Will be back this year even though I will have done Luton Marathon the week before.
    It is agreat event
  • I booked in for this as a post-Abingdon pick-me-up. Glad to hear about the "spread of abilities" as I won't be doing a lot of training in-between! The plan is to do lots of cross-training over the winter to try and get rid of the nomadic problem roaming round my arse all summer (piri-wot?).

Woodle - hope you enjoyed Abi - are you local-ish too? It was my first and I don't think I could've picked a better one. By but that last loop's a bugger though.
  • Hi there Fido2Dogs....

I managed to complete the marathon in 3hr 55.

My wife managed to run it in 3hrs 28.

We were both first timers, and the last loop wasn't good for the brain, let alone the legs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Curses seeing the 25 mile marker at the 18.5 mile mark.

Hopefully I will be closer to the wife this time, and we both will be aiming for the 40 minute mark for this, well she will be, and as ever I'll be lagging behind.

Based in Aylesbury & London so localish......

  • More of a Tortoise, don't let the club xmas do hold you back - I'm going for it but I'm not sure a PB will be on the cards!
Last Year Andy and I did this and it was great - it was really foggy so you couldn't see just how dull the airfield bit was. Sorry guys but it is the worst bit.
When you get to the finish, there's a table full of china mugs with the after race water in which makes a nice momento. The showers are good too!
The Golf club over the way does a storming Sunday lunch too so it's well worth the trip.
  • I've raced my bike around W-o-t-G so know how dull it is. It's a real nightmare on a bike if there's a headwind down the back straight.

Good surface though and traffic free of course.
  • Looks like a great race to get a 10k PB and if not, I get a bacon sandwich and a hot mug of tea ... I'm in !
  • Got my number yesterday - 180.
  • Going to do my entry tomorrow.
Enjoyed this last year as the fog meant I was less concious of how far ahead people were getting!
Agree it should be PB territory if you are in good shape (thats my chance gone then)
  • Don't think I'll be PBing. Got a Christmas party the night before!!!
  • I did a little drive around the course, with the exception of the airfield yesterday.

It looks flat enough, but very tight on the main road in Chesterton.

The biggest bonus for the wife is that it is very close to Bicester Village for some retail shopping on teh way home.

    Joy of Joys..

  • I'm in. Might have been the bacon butties that sold it.

What's the best transport option for a car-less person coming up from from London? Bicester North station and jump in a cab?
  • Thought about entering this but you guys all sound like runners - can anyone let me know if this is suitable for a beginner (ish). Don't want my bacon buttie to be the coldest one!!
  • I did my second 10k here last year
  • It will be my first 10k!!

And i have a lot of work to do. I'm preparing for the chance that i may come last!

I'll just be happy to get round, its supposedly flat which made it appealing!
  • Anyone going from Borough of Hillingdon area?
  • Definitely beginner friendly. Was my 3rd 10k when I did it last year and plenty of company towards the back. A good one to start with.
  • John Barr 12 did you enter this?

    Just noticed its now full!
  • crikey ...i didn't expect this to fill up...it will be a very full airfield.

not really done much since the candleford canter, so i'd better get running again :)
  • domestic goddess wannabee.

I got your response and had another look at the race. Unfortunately I tride this morning and found it full.
I emailed them in case there is a reserve list or cancellations.

    Thanks a lot.

Oh have changed my name was John Barr 12 in case your wondering.
  • ok, let us know if you manage to enter!

good luck with the running :o)
  • maybe try submitting a postal event. i don't know about this one, but for some they don't let the full allowance of entrants to enter online and reserve some for postal entries :)
  • sorry, meant to say 'try submitting a postal entry form' instead of a 'postal event' d'uh!...it's been a long day
  • Hey thanks to you both.
I will try the postal vote later.

Have entered a 12k at Stratford and 10k at Kelmarsh but they are in the New Year. Will try to get something localish before Christmas so I got something to aim for.

Didn't realise this running was so sociable. Not a substitute for good wine though I hope.

  • I've entered the Not the Roman IX too, sounds cool, something to aim for after Xmas and an 'interesting' distance
