Its basically the circuit board that all your computer components plug into. So hard disk, disk drive, memory, sound card, graphics card, processor etc etc - they all need to plug into it.
The motherboard is the board that all of the other "bits" plug into. If you have the case open you'll see everything is plugged into a green, thin board that has silver lines running all over it. That's you mother board. It hooks everything together. You can't take it out of teh PC any more than you can take Oxeygen out of air and still try to breath - lose your motehrboard and you no longer have a PC!
I am not at work, its not my computer I am on about. A friend said her husband has taken out the motherboard to stop her accessing emails can you do that ??
Theoretically yes but realistically no. It would be a huge and probably impossible task and putting it back together without a soldering gun, a HND in electronics and a free afternoon would be pretty tough.
If he had the nous to take out a motherboard he could certainly prevent e-mail access in much easier ways (like removing teh modem / bband router for example) or simply changing the admin password and locking her out.
If you give me his e-mail addy I can mail him info on how to stop her checking e-mails and so neglecting her wifley duties (cooking, cleaning and dressing up in nurses outfits for feats of titilation and delectation, for example)
it wouldn't be that hard to take it out - most components just press in/pull out of slots, but the computer wouldn't work wihtout it. As Amadeus has said, plenty of easier ways to do it.
Obviously the MOTHERboard is so named because it is vital to the whole running of the computer and everything would crash and fall apart without it, but life continues with it and no one appreciates it or even registers it's there.

Isn't that the cheap rate students pay for lodgings if they stay at home?
Sorry, I can't give you the serious answer you want, but someone will be along soon I'm sure.

If you take it out - your pc really wont work.
(As you can see, even when I try to be helpful, I'm worse than useless)
