Hi, I've been asked to post this for a friend, any help/advic e is greatly appreciated...
I am in the third week of running as a new runner and am using a walk/run
shedule which I really enjoy. However I have started to get very bad cramps
in my calf about half way through my session (when running) which are
debilitating and continue to be painful for several days after the session
which I have to stop as soon as this happens. I have been stretching
carefully, eat sensibly and follow my training plan. Can anyone help with
advice? I am prone to bad chest infections and it was suggested that I may
be having trouble transporting oxygen to my calf muscles, though my peak
flow is good, is that possible?

Erm.. delicate question, is your friend overweight (more strain on the relatively small muscles of the calves).
I doubt it's O2 related, more like overuse or lack of conditioning. Stretching after the run, adequate rest, other cardio training and a sports massage may help - it will get easier!
There's lots of advice on the internet on dealing with cramps eg http://www.fitfaq.com/muscle-cramps.html
Sorry, can't be more helpful, but I know its an annoying problem!
