pumpkin, there are loads of B&Bs that are nearer to the start than the Travelodges, but the Travelodges are usually full of forumites!! I stayed in the Stonyfield one last year, but according to the website both are 1.8 miles away from Inverness centre. The taxi would be cheap enough, or another forumite may offer you a lift if they have room...
I think so far myself, Roobarb & Santababy have booked in to Fairways Travelodge. That was when they were going for £26 per room per night. Keep an eye on the website - Travelodge website
I think I'm losing my marbles.... after much of the year out for injury, I've just been given the all clear to start training seriously again so I've put an entry in for the Loch Ness. (Takes deep gulp and wonders if marbles are anywhere around...) Anyone know where I can find a profile of this course? I couldn't find it on the site, just the route. How much hill training do I need to do?
I believe there is a decent sized hill at about the 17 mile point. There is a profile of the route available somewhere but can't remember where. Perhaps someone else can remember.
Nessie posted this website earlier on in the thread, it has a course profile.
LP.. if you have the time take the train, best way to travel stress free and the scenery is a bonus.. just remember the ipod !!
My training is starting to get into gear now with a few good sessions this week and Sat coming 20 miles between Bridge of Orchy and Kinlochleven. I am so missing the opportunity to taper.
I have still to book my B&B for the Corrie and LN.
PS.. I am still looking for a 3rd person for my Corrie team. 17 mile run across the Corrieyairack Pass then a 26 mile road cycle. Superb weekend with a ceilidh flung in, not to mention the free cup of tea while waiting for your massage and your free sanwdiches when you finish. BUT and there is always a but.. it is charity driven and requires fundraising as well as team entry. If interested let me know.
10 days to London .. 17 till Vienna.. hope all the training is going well.
Karie, people like you astound me, how on earth do you find the time, energy and motivation to do so many endurance events so close together! here's me pondering over whether I have time to fit in training for one piddly marathon a year!
Nice one Karie. I am going to do the Kinlochleven to Fort William stretch week on Sat. I would love to do the Corrieyairack but busy already that weekend. I have a B&B for loch ness about 1.5 miles away same one as last year their are lots of B&B around the stadium. Anything in the Fairfield Road area is good just dont leave it to late to book.
found it!!! thanks fellrunning, this place is full of such great information. Is anyone one running this and living in edinburgh? I need an edinburgh support group, no one in my close group of friends and family wants to do this despite blackmail or bribery....now to find accomodation in fairways........ Ps first timers are even more welcome...I am slow as molasses in january, but am full of such guts and determination.
Kari ..... my Corrieyairack Team mates are not going this year as they think its too close to the Ironman Nice (ie IM Nice is six days before) Ive emailed my club to see if there is a place going there but if not Im available ..... I normally do this event 3:55 - 4:10 depending on the wind.
You'll love the hill on this one Goldbeetle (see course profile). It is great.(!) Actually, it's not that bad. But not flat. Good luck with accomodation and flights.
lol! It felt like one LONG one at times!!! You know, I studied the course profile last year, and mentally preppd myself for the one at Mile 18, totally ignoring the CLIFF FACE at mile 4!!!! I nearly died!!!!
I loved the support thought at Dores, the flapjack from some local kids was very thoughtful! And the toilets there at the hotel were....very useful! (There's no dignity in marathon racing I have found!!!!)
Bagpipes played well is the most emotion stirring sound in the world. We had a work colleague play at our wedding from start to finish and it was perfect :-)

If anyone has problems getting accommodation, give me a shout. I'm local, so can check out B&Bs that might not show up on the interweb thingy.
now Abingdons off is there a good chance of getting into this one? need accomodation and is it flat?
and do they let in soft southerners
Just look back a couple of posts for course profile. Plenty B&Bs.
We like the softies it gives us someone to pass.

The piper at Dores brought tears to my eyes.
