Cheers FSG, HeleGAnT Wheels, and Scouse, it was a good race and I hope it will happen again next year so that I can get a sub 1:20. (write that down and remind me next year!!)
Congrats though should go to all us forumites that entered the race, I know many of us ran superb times, and although many results may not compare timewise, I think many others deserve a lot more applause than I do.
NN, your details say that you run 1-3 times a week totalling 20 or less miles. Is that still true or are those details from some 20 years ago before you got serious ?!?!?!?
Hi Former Lurker M, Yes that is true, I do a track session usually of 5km or less if I blow out on a Monday night, and usually a race on a Sunday whatever that distance may be.
Although I often find that I have to miss my Monday track session due to sore calfs from the Sunday races.
Well done NN You probably don't remember giving me some encouragement a few weeks back about doing Silverstone, but it helped and I made it! (2:19 - so somewhat slower than you, but my first) I've now found my 'niche' in the mature runners bit (not that it's very mature!) Anyway, thanks again and best wishes W
Wends, well done, we all encourage each other on these forums, I am often helped when feeling down by reading some of the postings in order to sort my head out.
I bet you are looking forward to the next one now??? NN
Hiya mate, I am fortunate to be still improving at the moment, and whilst improving on this method then why change it? When I see little improvement, then I ccan make alterations.
Our club night is Mondays and so we have access to the track, as where I live has no track and I do not drive, then Monday is the only realistic time to get on the track.
I am not too bothered if I miss my monday session at the moment as there is always a race coming up, and the best training possible for me is a race.
I have a marathon coming up in two months time. I did some long races last month, I havent time on Sundays this month as there is a race every week. May do a couple next month, but then have some short races in May in the weeks leading up to it.
Regards, NN
PS. I wouldnt advise anyone to follow my methods in preparation for a marathon! (there I cant get blamed by anyone now, hehehe)
I will certainly look forward to seeing your result for the marathon. Which one is that? Also, won't it be getting on the warm/hot side in 2 months time (or doesn't it make any difference to you?!)?
Having been prevented by injury from running any distance at all during the week since end Jan, (have managed to keep the long runs, luckily) I rather hope your marathon training method IS suitable for other people NN!
The warm weather is not too much of a problem as the slower pace compensates. I am running FLM next year, so this year I just picked a local race (Halstead), in order to get the automatic entry time.
Injuries are the vain of most runners lives, I havent suffered anything that has kept me out more that a few days so far, so am keen to keep that going.
lol, dont expect too much, but I do have a 15 miler this Sunday, which can only lead on to further distance very soon, I will say no more than that.......
Although I do have a habit of sneaking an odd long run in when nobody expects it, lol!
Hehehehehehe, have just come back from my Monday night track session, oops was too much aching to run tonight so went to the pub instead with SlowButSure, oh well, race on Sunday

Woaw, NN, I hope you realise how lucky (or should that be talented?) you are!
What's the reason behind doing a race on a Sunday, followed by a track session on a Monday? Is it time-constraints?
Also, have you had a go at the marathon yet? If so, how did your training change?
