Mo Farah came to my kids' school and had his picture taken individually with anyone who wanted it. Unfortunately, my son had fallen off his scooter the day before and bashed his nose in, and in the picture he's got a huge plaster up his nose, suggesting either that Mo had smacked him in the face or that social services should be called in because his parents are beating him up (clue: it's neither). Oh, and I once played for a Chelsea fans team against some Chelsea old boys and marked my one-time hero Steve Finnieston out of the game. That won't mean much to most people, but it made my day.
Hayley Yelling produces a fairy tale performance, just incredible that she could retire after coming 16th in the European last year and then come back to win it.
Before I 'took up' running, Liz and Martin Yelling lived at the top of my street - when I started to run - I made sure I didn't run past their house. They've moved now - so that's ok.
My son's running coach pointed out Lisa Dobriskey as she was running where they were doing their last hill training session - she may have been doing hill repeats too - but using more of the hill!
I lined up with Alistair Brownlee & Rob Jebb (the Three Peaks Cyclo-Cross 7 times winner/fell-runner) at the Bingley Harriers (of which they are both members) 'Harriers verses Cyclists' in 2008, & was comprehensively blitzed by both of them
Jebb was there again this year, & beat me by almost 15 minutes - but he was on his bike & I was running
One of my collegues used to be in the Wakefield Harriers & trained with Emily Freeman, but gave up her running when she started her Nurse training, & tells me she used to beat Freeman almost every week!!!
I remember now running past Michael Winner in Holland Park. He wasn't running, though he has slimmed down a lot from his restaurant-reviewing hayday. Nasty piece of work though. Oh, and I sat in front of fellow Chelsea fan Sebastian Coe at Derby in early 1984. Chelsea won 2-1. Don't like him much, either, though, great runner though he was.
I went to school with Chris McGeorge - Commonwealth 800m bronze medalist who had the misfortune of being around when thelikes of Coe, Ovette, Cram, Elliot etc were about. He shattered every school record even when he was still 14 or so.
Steve Cram beat me in the Brampton to Carlisle 10 mile in about 1984.
I saw both the Browlee brothers in Hyde Park the Sunday after the ITU Tri this year. They were out for a morning run and stopped to chat to one of the coaches looking after the GB kiddies who were about to go in their race. Alistair Brownlee had won the day before.
I was there watching a mate go in the Age Grouper race, which James Cracknell won. So saw him too.
On a regular training route I used to do in the woods at the back of my parents place in Wales, I ran past Rhoddri Morgan (former Welsh Assembly leader) a few times. One time, I was running up a hill close to where he lives in the middle of the country and he shouted something like come on young lad keep it going....he was really enthusiastic and I tried to smile but was more gasping for air more than anything as I reached the top! Was nice to have someone well known like him cheer me in my training though!
No Yelling, but thanks for the thread bump - It lets me mention that I've met and been overtaken by Dan Robinson. Probably did speedwork with him once or twice, but he was too far in front to see properly...
Well Robert - I ran past and spoke to Liz, Martin and Hayley all at once when they were on a run on Poole seafront in September. Nur nur ne nur nur
Then Liz came back to the beachut for a chat with her little girl..(OK my missus knows her from Bedford and County..) There was a post Beijing party on the beach too in 08...very silly
I've overtaken Sonia O'Sullivan on the GSR once too. She wasn't at her best though...obviously

Hayley Yelling just ran past me.
So she should, she is an international athlete who just won the European XC title.

i ran past Gregor Townshend the other week there. *I* was running on the pavement. *He* was running ON the busy A road. fool.
we were going in different directions. we nodded and smiled at each other.

(in training & races)
It would be even better if Hayley was shouting her name as she ran past the OP.
Then the title could be:
Hayley Yelling yelling "Yelling" just ran past me

Ali Browlee's mum was my GP before I moved house.

Star-studded... sort of...
Hayley Yelling?
Yes, she was bloody furious !
I think Liz Yelling has been sick. Check out Super Six Matchstick Man's thread.
I saw Hayley Yelling on TV just before Xmas. Does that count?

On the Mersey in Chorlton it was.
