Made my racing debut at Liversedge half a few weeks ago and just done the Ackworth half today. Delighted, as pb down from 1hr 52 to 1hr 49. Hoping that Leeds will bring that down further.
I received acceptance mail a while ago, however can anybody confirm when the formalities will be issued?
YP1, how did you find it? Well done on PB. What did you bring it down to?
I enjoyed it but found it hard going. Probably due to not getting 13 miles under my belt since the Liversedge run. Lesson learned! I did 1hr 49, previous best 1hr 52
Sorry, all. I know this message does not relate directly to Leeds.
Hello all. I'll be at Leeds this year after a year off with shin splints last year. Whoever was asking about resting them - I didn't run from April (FLM06) to September last year - and I still feel them - but training for FLM07 on 3 runs a week seems to give them time to recover between runs.
Leeds is a good half - mile 3/4 is a pull up then the ring road's undulating, then flat from the Otley road junction. Kirkstall road can feel a long way if you're tired.
Which pub's it likely to be? May have to shoot off as it's Skipton Race 4 Life that afternoon and will be expected to go along and applaud, but might manage a swifty.
Weird. We were upstairs in a corner too - eating some rather unpleasant food... What's the bar in Millenium Sq called now? Is it still Cube? Can watch the finish from there.
Yep - Ilkley Harriers, Embsay branch (there's 4 or 5 of us most weeks from here). Friendly bunch, lots of abilities, poshest changing rooms in the north of england. Good, popular club night on Tuesday, we do track at Keighley on Thursdays although there's other sessions. Brisk 10 miler saturday morning and a long off road run on Sundays. Drop me a mail if you fancy coming doen on a Tuesday and I'll introduce you to a few people (assuming I'm there - seem to be in London more often than Ilkley on Tuesdays recently!).
Nope - Someone from the club broke their ankle at Baildon 3 weeks before London a few years ago, so not risking it, and the other two are 2 and 1 weeks before FLM so will be tapering (actually doing a 10k o 15th but treating it as a speed session by running with mrs andy for 5k and then finishing fast). there'll be lots of Harriers there thought I expect!
So, is this a better race to enter than Sheffield? Would like to do one or the other as they're reasonably local (or may do boh if I feel like it)...... Leeds has a medal which is nice, but I know bits of Sheffield as I like there for a while and visit occasionally.
Havent done Sheffield so cant comment Im afraid. I know a few people who are doing both.
Hopefully my knee will be alright in time for this or it will be the second year in a row Ive missed out due to injury. (and paid Leeds city Council my hard earned money for nowt!!!).
Just done a 1.47 at liverpool half on sunday, with little training + my diet at the moment is horrendous. Think im gonna get some proper training in and try and eat some fruit - and try and smash my time. What time you think i should go for (realistically)????
If you can do that with little training and a cr@p diet you're doing alright phil. My quickest half is 2:14.
Mind you my diet hasnt been great recently.Though I have just talked myself out of a bacon and egg sandwich. And my training has gone down the pan with my knee but hoping to be back at it soon.
Good luck. And I think you could aim for at least 1:40 with more training and stuff.
We're usually around on here for some advice and support if required!!

I haven't had anything from them. I entered by post and they've cashed my cheque, but no confirmation or anything.

stonking PB again!

wierd indeed andy, maybe we were in opposite corners in different dimensions!
are you an Ilkley Harrier? am debating joining a club and the harriers are nearby
seems we are all in the thick of training for the Leeds half.
I did Silverstone 1/2 last week 1:43
and Liverpool 1/2 today another 1:43 but my garmin said 13.6 must not have taken the racing line rrrrgggh
it was a hot one and its only march - whats 13/5 gonna be like???
will drop you an email, am just concerned about being too slow...
set meself a challenge and you get a certificate for completing all three!
will try and be brave and say hello to any harriers :O)
chip timer didnt work very well either. expensive at £16 and no tshirt....
as you say lets hope leeds is a better affair.
What times are people expecting ?

estimated or target time for Leeds is <1:40 if i am being realistic about proper training for Edinburgh where i want a sub 3:45 time
however havent done Leeds before so we'll wait and see
8m/m is a good yard stick for people though and thats 1:44.....
all best for the weekends races
