Curious to know whether there are really many events where you can just run?! Fundraising is all well and good but sometimes you just want to run without the stress of reaching a financial target? I'm new by the way, you might have guessed from this juvenile topic.

Most races can be run without sponsorship as long as you register early.

99% of races are just pay and run but you need to book early for them (e.g. Bupa 10k) otherwise the only route is through charities and that means fundraising.

Most races are just pay and enter - I've never had to raise funds in the dozens of races I've done over the years.
If you mean "events" like GNR, etc., then you will have more difficulty getting a place, but it can still be done.
I stick to club-organised races, where there are no charity places anyway, and no difficulty getting a place (as long as you enter in time).
Have a look on the events section of RW for races in your area.

Yes, most races are just pay and enter. Although you should expect to receive sponsorship forms and literature from the organizers in an attempt to twinge your conscience. I just ignore them.
It does rather amuse me when bystanders ask, "who are you doing this for?" and then look at me blankly when I reply that I'm doing it for me, because I'm weird and I do it for fun.
It seems that the concept of doing a half marathon or whatever just for the sake of it because we enjoy it does not compute with many.
I've done nearly 400 races Ronnie and I've run less than a dozen for sponsorship. Same as Loz and Muttley says, as long as you enter early enough, there's no obligation to raise funds.
And lots of the small races you can just enter on the day (though you save a quid or two by entering in advance). But of course there is not much publicity for them so at first folk don't know about them.
