Have just made the decision that for my 40th birthday next year and my official mid-life crisis, I will not be getting a sports car but I will be going for Bolton IMUK! So my first question, if anybody can help me, is...is it easy to get entry? Is it first come first served and fills up within a day like London Marathon! Cheers all, Tonka

Doesn't seem to say yet so if anyone knows would appreciate it!
Obviously trying to get all my info straight and then I guess pick everyone's brains on training!
Cheers
IMUK doesn't sell out
Bike.....fingers crossed!
Swimming.....will find out next few weeks... Everything crossed for this!
^ what he said and some... Still hate running, still hate swimming, like bike but I'm shite
Find the Fatman to Ironman thread (where the newb wannabe ironpersons are), start at the beginning.... Read
See u in a week
That is all
Thats actually quite reassuring!
Where did you start with the swimming (dont say in the water!), books or lessons or...??
You might find this thread cheering

I am a few lengths with lots of splashing at mo, so hopefully the only way is up!
One of my next tasks was going to be choosing a new bike. I currently have a giant escape r2 hybrid which all in all is a pretty handy little bike.......unfortunately the clutch on my car decided to let out a loud screatch and like a big kick in the nuts this is gonna cost ??800!! At these times I seriously hate cars and my mindset at mo was just to think.....'ok, that could have been a decent new bike with carbon forks!'.
So looks like a bit more saving and maybe just shoes and clips to go on the trusty hybrid!!!
Just a car that worked would be good at mo!.....sports car defo few years of saving pennies in the piggy bank now!
KK - the bike route goes past Brad Wiggin's house so what more could you ask for.
perhaps wiggo would like to join a wotsit eating contest.
Definitely getting sidetracked with wotsits now, although i have just had some with my snack! (poss wotsit training???!!)
Wetsuit
Tri suit (although I think separates would be way to go when it gets to race time)
Pedals,clips
Goggles
Cycle hat
Giant defy 5 roadbike
.....all for ??599!!!
Considering I may or may not continue with any riding post race ( I am a runner by heart) and I may well sell bike on after, this seems like cracking deal....
Anyone any thoughts...???
Also would box of wotsits, or multi- packs be better, and what happened to prawn cocktail flavour wotsits or did they just never exist??
Its is a good deal certainly ... this time of the year a lot of last years bikes are sold off to make way for new ones
The packages usually attract buyers tho
Do some research and see what you would have to pay for the larger items on their own
Best thing to hold fire maybe?
I think whatever you decide it is the law of sod that you will find it cheaper the next day
The main thing is to ensure that the bike and the wetsuit fit you .. if they dont then it wont be money well spent!
I've got a Defy 4, it's my first road bike and I love it, reliable, fast, smooth. Entry level, so I probably don't know what I'm taking about .... never ridden a £4k monster. Maybe one day.
But that looks like a great deal.
See you in Bolton! I'm a newbie too, hoping it'll be on 28th July (my 44th).
Have you started training yet? Are you runner, rider, swimming background?
Swimming worries me....hopefully few lessons will sort!
If not may look at plan b, which will be half ironman first. Unfortunately I am all gung ho to just go for the full kahoona first off and then never ride a bike or swim again!
Yeah, training for other races -- tris, marafuns, ets -- so working towards a good base fitness for when I start dedicated IM training in 2013. Plan A should involve a half-IM first anyway. Read 'IronFit' by Fink, really inspiring and it has lots of clear, concise advice about how to fit in training. And three great 30 week training plans (for differing levels).

As for swimming, I started not being able to swim a length front crawl, now I can do 800m comfortably (with a few rest breaks). That's nowhere near good enough yet, but it does show that continuous improvement is possible.
