Does anyone know anything about this half marathon? Think it is new but looks great. Have been looking for a half marathon in the north in the Autumn. I ran the Manchester marathon in April and need a goal to keep me going until I ran another marathon in the spring! Any info on this race would be appreciated, thank you!

Lily - it is the first time for this event but one of the orgainsers is race director at the Wilmslow half and has a lot of experinence of staging races so all the signs look good for this being a well run event. I've entered as well. Another good local half to consider is Macclesfield Half in September
thanks pato that is really helpful
I've signed up for Tatton: Macc is good too, but probably a bit more challenging / hilly.
i could have sworn this was a yearly event.! hmm?..... theres the chester and preston full marathons before spring if your interested.? lily of the valley.
also congleton half 7th oct .,,,,such a shame its same day as Chester full though
yes just seen its a first event...guess it was a different mileage the one i was looking at last year.
thanks everyone I have entered now which is great. Just need to step up my training! Did a local 10k on Saturday with my daughter and have another 10k in August. Will do Tatton in Nov then start my marathon training in January for whatever I have got into. I have applied for London but will probably do Brathay Windermere if I don't get a place.
Oooh interesting! I've not seen this before but it's close to my parents so might be worth a trip
Hi, This is my first marathon but i have been training around my area on the roads ect. does anybody no what the finishing time for this marathon is?
Tina - 2 things: its a half-marathon, and I'm not sure what you mean by the finishing time? Do you mean what time will they close the route down and open up the roads? There is nothing on the website about when this would happen, but I wouldn't worry.
Hi All
Just noticed this thread - I've also entered this one. My plan is to do the GNR in September. This will be my fist hm and I'm doing it for charity so the idea is just to have fun and enjoy the experience. I'm then planning on doing a bit more training and completing the Tatton half at a reasonable time. However, since booking the Tatton half I've discovered I'm actually much better on hilly courses than flats. Oh dear!
Hi, thanks for the reply.i am a keen runner but i have never ran any sort of marathong nor do i no much about marathons and i read somewere about finishing times. i was reading things online and i guess i was a bit worried incase i dont finish in time! but i have been training hard so i guess its just nerves, but im just going to have fun and do the best that i can. thanks
Hi Newrunner, but as Dan said, this race isn't a marathon......otherwise I certainly wouldn't be ready for it!
You have about 12 weeks before the race so that does give you time to gradually build up your mileage. There are lots of half marathon training plans to be found on the internet as well as this site.
Best advice I can give is;
Build up your mileage gradually.
Try not to do all your mileage on tarmac it's a very unforgiving surface, try running on canal towpaths, parkland and other softer ground for some of your runs.
Don't increase mileage and speed at the same time. If you introduce a faster run or longer run than you have done before, have an easy day the following day.
After two or three weeks of increasing mileage have a slightly easier week to allow your body to recover.
Don't do all your runs wearing the same shoes. You are less likely to get injured if you alternate your running shoes.
If you can gradually build up to being able to run 10 miles in training you should be able to complete 13.1 miles on race day.
...and if you have to walk a little in your first half marathon, so what! I stopped to walk several times in my first half marathon!
Tatton Half Marathon should be a good half marathon for a beginner. It is a mostly flat course, nice scenery, with no nasty surprises and is aimed at beginners as well as faster runners.
Best of luck!
Hello,
I'm considering doing this race but unfortunately due to not owning a car fidning it difficult to get to Tatton park at 9.30am on a Sunday from Chester. Anyone willing to give me a lift for petrol money or split a cab?
Kind regards
Michael
Hi Michael where abouts in Chester are you?
Hoole, literally 5 mins from the train station.
