This may seem like a stupid question but does anybody use a winter hat that keeps their head warm but not TOO warm?!
I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to cold weather and i like to stay warm.....the other problem i have is that i don't like to stay so warm that i'm soaked in sweat!
I used to run with a wool type beany hat but that made me sweat too much and always came back soaking....i then went and bought a stretchy running cap but it was fitted and totally crushed my massive head!
any ideas?

Not that warm, but I like my Lowe Alpine goretex baseball cap. Waterproof and thin and keeps the rain off my glasses.
An alternative option is a buff, can be used in various permutations and if it gets too warm take it off and use as a wristband. Also makes a good neck baffle to stop rain running inside a waterproof top.
Link to the one I wear. Stupidly expensive but as the top is so thin it folds up small and fits in my jacket pocket www.jackson-sports.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=5918
Or look for a larger stretchy thin running hat? Some of the makes do them in different sizes.
Debra, i did think of that..the one i have is a 'one size' fit but was hoping somebody may have one similar that comes in different sizes
My dear brother gave me two under armour HG hex beanies as an Xmas prezzy a couple of years ago and there fantastic....
Lidl did S, M, L hats last year when they brought out their winter running range. Not sure whether this year's has been and gone or not. Aldi just did theirs but the hats were one size fits all.
try a buff. it's made of thin cotton material and comes as a tube, fold it so that it forms a skullcap. sorted
instructions of how to fold a buff here - http://www.buffwear.co.uk/ways-to-wear
I wear a buff - as a beanie but not closed at the top. A kind of adjustable "cooling tower" effect, keeps head warm and sweat out of eyes while allowing heat to dissipate.
On really cold days it used to hugely amuse Muttley Jnr to see me standing outside the house with a plume of steam rising from my head.
I use a buff unless its properly cold. The Helly Hansen beanies are good, not too thick and you can pull it down over your ears too. OMM Beanie is another good one I've used all year round for night runs and the like.
I'm another buff user - and there are loads of ways to wear them that mean you can vary the amount of heat you allow to escape.
Pirate style is my favourite
I use the inov-8 winter peak cap. Has a fleece lining so nice and warm and keeps most of the rain/snow off your face.

but if find that too warm try the rain peak

or as an alterantive to a buff

grow your hair in the shape of a bob style, that should keep your head and ears warm.
+1 for buffs
You can never have too many buffs
Berghaus Power Stretch Beanie (other similar beanies are available...)
Warm and thin so can be worn under helmets (cycling, I don't own a running helmet) and hoods easily.
+1 for buff's, but i dont buy original ones £15 each? screw that, there is one (better quality too imo) made by Oxford originals, £15 for 3.
