Hip/lower back ache

I have a dull ache in my right hip which causes me discomfort the day after my runs. Any hints/tips as to how i can reduce the pain or any ideas as to what it is?

thanks

Runners are prone to lower back and hip injuries because of the way we are built as humans. I had a physio explain it to me in terms of human evolution, we are standing upright when in terms of our backs at least, we'd be better off crawling.

I think the best thing you can do is speak to a specialised physiotherapist who can suggest exercises for you but not before visiting your GP who may run tests to rule out anything serious. The essence of getting around the problem though is about building up the muscles around the back and hips so the weaker and injured areas can take a break and repair. Sports massage (regularly) can also help some people.

    Thankyou for your response- useful

I have been the docs and was told it was a muscle insert strain and must rest for a few weeks whilst doing some strengthening exercises. So frustrating though as Im due to start training for my first half marathon, but guess i must wait image
