It also said that they would email the details out during the week commencing 15 October 2012, and that didn't happen either. I'll leave it until Monday now that I'm not going away next week as planned. At least I have the paypal receipt for the entry fee, so will just turn up if necessary.
Almost. Just have to pick up my hat and gloves tomorrow.
Been overthinking (and overreading) this marrathoning business. I've done this event twice and am more prepared and have done more training than before. Maybe that's why I'm more nervous...
Ran Frankfurt marathon yesterday, Rutland will be my 13th marathon this year, and 3rd marathon in 3 weeks, so just looking to get round the course and take a few pictures. Praying I get round the course and that my old injury of IT band doesn't play up due to the hills.
Any garmin reports from those who have do it before?
Are there showers at the finish we can use and post race massage?
Did Snowdonia marathon on Saturday..am toying with this one as a last minute entry. May be a week too early, any thoughts from folks who know the terrain. cheers
No medal? For £33? Scandalous! The "pack" certainly doesn't mention one.
Also, it doesn't mention a baggage facility, other than a warm top in a carrier bag ("not a ruc sac"). I'll have a holdall or small suitcase with me. God, it'll weigh a ton after lugging it round for 26.2 miles.
This course is really lovely - i did it as my second ever marathon (last year) - the only thing i'd comment on is there are a few cattlegrids to go over - take these steadily - i hadnt done any other running other than roads last year and these grids did cause my knees to hurt in the later stages - if you've done some off road you'll be fine - and it's very scenic.
There were medals and t-shirts last 2 times. I'd be surprised if there's no medal.
You can leave a bag at the finish, the start is a 20min walk from the car park/finish so the idea is you just wear a jumper to do the walk then chuck it in a carrier bag. That way the organisers don't have loads of heavy bags to cart back to the finish.
Thanks Tim. I was toying with leaving my stuff at the hotel and going back for it afterwards on the way to the railway station. This means I won't need to now.
All set to run this on Sunday, my first ever marathon Been an interesting journey - stuck to my training plan, knackered my knee, had my first ever physio - but I'm fit snd ready for a long cold wet run on Sunday.
Really looking forwards to this, my 20th this year! Cant help but think about the comparison with NYM. We will have an enjoyable canter round a beautiful bit of English countryside, NY would be marathoners will be deeply frustated and upset, as NYers pick themselves and their city back up. I know where Id rather be!!!
Got home safely. Managed something in the 3.45 category. It is a tough course, made more so by the conditions. Suspect there might have been a couple of hypothermia issues at the tail end of the field!
Finished my first ever marathon... 5 hrs 29 The forecast said a "bit" of rain... errrrr major understatement!!! Agree about the hypothermia statement... A big cheer for the cadets and marshals. There is only one thing crazier than running 26.2 in those conditions... that is standing around for HOURS on end in those conditions...
Its a shame it was crap weather, the scenery is great and a challenging course with a stinging finish. Never ran a marathon without the feeling in my feet before.
Great race, the weather made it tough though, thought I might have been better off in wellies at some points!! Agree 100% with the comments about the Marshalls and Cadets, everyone had a smile and encouragement for us, they were the stars today.
Very pleased with my first marathon time of around 3:45 ish... had to go over the timing mat twice at the finish to get my chip to register when the guy with the ipad said to me "your chips not registered, you'll have to go round again". I had horrible thoughts of having to go all the way round again.... lol...
Comments
mine came today
Arrived home and race pack was waiting for me.
so now I have my race pack but might not be able to run anyway cos of ITB causing pain. I'll make a decision the day before...
Mine is still awaited. The race pack that is, not ITB.
10miles tonight. Not sure what distance I'll do this Sunday. I hate this bit...

I am in.
I managed 3.35 in the Leicester marathon, so lets see if I can beat that over a more demanding course.
My pack arrived yesterday.
Everyone all ready for next Sunday then?

Phew. Race number and chip dropped on the mat at 1pm today. No excuses now.
Training almost all done and my race pack has arrived so I'm all set for my first marathon!
Is it just me or does it seem like based on last years feed back they've upgraded to technical t-shirts and done away with the medals?

so gutted I can't run this. Have a great one everyone, hope the weather is ok for you.

It was grim thats for sure - I am thinking of it as character building, made it just under 4 hrs but that was quite long enough to be out there.
Who's up for next year?

Good on the marshals for toughing it out too.
