Running on the B4424 route, which is my regular 'haunt' for running/walking in the early hours, I love being there on my own, but 4 times recentrly I've been scared stupid for a few seconds! I KNOW I'm alone (unless my son's with me) but I suddenly get the impression there's someone behind me but too far close for comfort. It's pitch black & I'll suddenly swing my torch round with heart pounding thinking I'm about to be leapt on &... nobody there! I shake & swing the torch to the trees/bushes &... nothing!
At first I thought maybe it was an animal like a fox or something skittering around & thought maybe it's just exhaustion & stress but I hear nothing, see no shadows or anything, it's just that 'feeling'
Considering the B4424 is an ancient road that was used hundreds of years ago for Cromwells lot & highway robbers etc I'm thinking its the spirits, if it is then that's fine by me as I'm 'ghostie friendly', I find it quite comforting knowing it could well be spirits, but the feeling of someone behind me is terrifying!
My son says he has the same things happen to him when along that route on his own too!
Anyone else running/walking in the early hours had the same or similar experience?

Yeah sorry about that ....

Oh Bruce, it could be you?!
I would hazard a guess that the section of road is subject to infra sound.
The frequency of between 7 & 19 Hz will produce sensations of fear, dread or panic.
No danger from ghosts. Just running away from them into the traffic.
🙂
It's definitely spirits, you just need to lay off the meths.
Oh, RicF, the infra sound idea is excellent, I never though of that, thank you for the imput on it, will have to make investigations on it, honestly.
As for lardarse...HA! Good thinking!
I recently started running in the woods and love it. On one occassion at a certain point I span around certain that someone was behind me, my heart was hammering but there was absolutely nothing/no one there!
Crazy feeling hey!
I've often thought someone's been behind me on a run. Usually it's the sound of the air vent on the back of my running jacket flapping about.
I never seem to be 'followed' in the summer or on dry days.
That sounds like the most logical explanation.
Know what Rickster? I thank you for the advice of the infra sound, it's been a veRy valuable bit of information for me, it really has. I researched it on the net. I did a 22 miler in the early hours of this morning & as I was running or walking I was tearful & stressy because of something personal, it's one of the reasons I run, to get it out of my system, but I thought about what you said & on that bit of road where I've had the weird experiences, there was nothing there this time that I could feel, even though my brain was working over-time becauise of the tears ... for the first time I ran without the eerrie thought of someone being too clolse for comfort. THANK YOU!
You can be assured that it's not a ghost. They don't exist except in the imagination.
You mean Derek Acorah's wrong?
I love this true tale of terror from Chimpy..

Cougs .. thats the one that I was looking for, has me in stitches
Well that thread "terror on the towpath" had me chuckling away for the last half hour.
Ah brilliant - Cougie's already linked to Chimp's thread, saved me looking. One of my favourite posts ever.
I had a slightly spooky experience towards the end of a long run in training for what was then FLM, I suddenly heard the theme music to the BBC coverage. I thought it must be exhaustion leading to me hallucinating - I'd forgotten I'd set the music as my ringtone a couple of days before and it was a call from a friend
