  • I believe that if the organisers have organised this race for the last 6 years then they are in a position to assess the course and we will be informed in the briefing of any changes or places to take extra care..........

everyone who enters this type of race should be prepared and carry the necessary safety stuff incase of an incident.these can happen in any weather.........

not sure about people who have no choice very few have to leave home really...there are no severe weather warning for the area.....and not much flooding in this area.

the rugby game is cardiff is still going ahead with 70,000 people travelling there unnecessarily.........

the emergency services and foresry comission both know the race is taking place and so no doubt would have their say if there was any genuine worries

  • Really looking forward to tonight's race-have to echo previous comments, the organisers know their stuff and I am sure if there is an issue then they would not let the race go ahead-let's be fair to run 20 miles at night,in Nov, across this terrain you have to be a bit barmy-hope to see lots of people there ready for some wet and muddy running!
  • Well taht was brillliant race..........glad we recceed as it made it so much easier on the night.a few people overtook  us a few times so i presume they kept taking detours........

couldn't believe how the conditions had changed in a week since the last recce...so much mud and water........amaxing

thanks to the organisers.......and of course the marshalls..i will be back..........

great to meet RS and few others ........had my bath now ready for bed

  • another race tonight with excellent marshalls.......only a few at checkpoints but they were out on the beacons in the rain and wind in the dark so that we could run around like idiots.......really grateful to them

  • Another awesome race the rubbish weather conditions I had ordered arrived on time and gave the sleepwalker an extra edge to it-very proud my wife placed third female too!! Cheers the the organisers and marshals-a job wel done
  • Cracking race really enjoyed it few slips which made me laugh.a classic for nutters when's the next one
  • SF..............ddi you take a wrong turn after the last checkpoint....................sems like quite a few took a hard way back to the start

  • I took a left after the last check point down the rocky path which was like a river think lost a few places plus trying to change batteries on top of the moor land was hard work.are the results up yet
  • That path was nightmare two weeks ago and it was wet and horrible..it must have been a nightmare...we went down the same path that we went up
  • Well that was fun, likewise good to meet you Seren, see you at xmas pudding run.

First lady last night, so big congrates to Seren and also to SF well done both of you,

  • @seren nos we went behind the check point and down the rocky waterlogged path rather than taking the route above it-which was the way we came out-but that was the way I went last year so knew it would take us to the same place but regretted it almost immediately-not really sure why we did-too wet to care/marbles finally gone hahaha
  • Congrats roy silver on first place-a really close run thing-you three girls pushed those places hard-real gutsy effort last night-well done!
  • I won nothing!!!

Never have, never will , for me it's just the fun of it, thanks anyway.

  • It was me first lady..i was amazed..i think its because we took the easiest path home image

  • another brlliant race.  stunningly tough - I wasn't prepared enough and got pretty cold and slow but put on the spare jumper and staggered on.  Navigation over the moor was interesting - the tape always seemed to appear just after I was beginning to think I'd gone wrong which was a bit teasing image

You have to judge for yourself if you can manage the risks of doing this sort of thing.  The organisers have always seemed very explicit to me that I'm responsible for getting back safely, whatever I come across.  It's certainly safer than doing it on your own.  If you don't think you can do that then it is unfair to depend on others to get you out of it.    But if we didn't take any risks we'd die young at home in bed.

  • I'm glad it went off OK and my fears weren't realised. Still thought it was best to pull out when I picked up a bug a couple of weeks ago. Did a local fell race today and managed to trip over in broad daylight so I don't think night running is for me.

  • Sorry seren, well done to you!!! I need to learn to read better...
  • Seren, I heard the first lady ran a very good time, well done you.

Could I point out to all, that those children I turn up with each year aren't all mine! ( 4are)

    Great night.

  • Good race, was that you Seren on the moorland crossing where my Garmin Edge GPS came in handy for the second year running? Quite disorientating in the misty darkness image

Path was easy to follow from there onwards, but some very deep puddles and still the Brinore Tramroad [read Brinore Stream] on the way back down. Easy option it may be but it didn't feel like it...

Well done to all who took part. We must be madimage

  • Really enjoyed the race once I was back in the warm, I was getting a bit chilly at the top of the moor. One item which i heard a few mention was the tape attached to the large bridle path sign on the moor just before the crags, i appreciate it was a perfect piece of wood to attach some tape, but not when there is an arrow pointing in the opposite direction at the top of the post !!!!, apart from that, i'll be back assuming the weather is betterimage

  • I headed up the hill as well at that post but it was laziness on my part.  The map clearly showed that it was a left turn - thanks to the guys who pointed me in the right (ie left haha) direction.

  • Hi Duncan

Can you post a higher resolution jpg or some text if you can? it's hard to read thenames/ times when you zoom in?

    thanks

  • Hi Alasdair,

this is a little better I hope. Text added to previous post.

  • Huge thanks to Duncan and the marshals for a great race. Much wetter, windier, colder, darker than last year, so as I hadn't put as many training miles in before the race, it was much tougher. Very happy to finish but just as happy to have competed. Seems that everyone who did the race feels the same. Shame that some even on the morning of the race chose to criticise the organisers and competitors for getting out there and grabbing a bit of life - I guess 'those that can, do; those that can't, criticise'. Well done again to Duncan and the team for making it all possible.

  • I'll second that John.

Sleepwalker is a tough, uncompromising event where the terrain and weather are the biggest factors. Duncan and the rest of the organisers do a fantastic job and host one of the most unique runs in the calendar.

I also like the fact that all the competitors are happy enough to have a chat on the way round. It's a friendly, low key event that is tougher that some full distance 26.2 s out there by some wayimage
