Just in case anyone wants to take things a bit more seriously.
Anyone want to talk about training? It's early days yet but I'm a boring old fart and do stuff like that.
Yes please
I've tried a few hill running over motorway bridges but I'm wondering how fast I should run up them? Should it be a mix or just slow and plod to the top?
@Goldbeetle - I still need to upload my pic of the hoody... i must do that
If you're running them as hill reps then run them at race pace or a session of:-
3x60secs; 3x45;3x30;3x15. jog backwards down recovery. All as hard as you can manage. Of course it depends on how long the motorway bridge is.
Otherwise, again depending on what you can do, run for 1 min up and down, recover for 1 min, repeat. 6 or 7 reps.
Any chance of getting away somewhere hilly for training?
Try starting in a lunge position, spring up (jump) swapping which foot is forward, land as you squat down. Repeat for i min or until you can't repeat again. (does that make sense? it's really hard and uses the muscles you'll use for hill running).
Em hill running is a mental test as well the more you do the more you come to except it. Where we live its all hills I live on the top of one. Never let them defeat you just accept them
I always took a long term approach to them.If I have a hill race, I would add in about 12 weeks before the event instead of speed training hills once a week. First week I find a hill about 800 metres and plod up dont stop (brain training). week 1 do it once
Week 2 run a hill thats steeper but much shorter 100 metres run it as fast as you can say 4 times
Alternate the weeks long/short increase the long runs by one rep evry other week short run by two
If you cant find hills the tower block stair runs are perfect . Onw wek nice and steady next week as fast as you can. i
Overcome the mental side of hills and you will be fine
We didnt like the green ones and we had that one hanging around glowing in the dark and generally making all the other colours fade, that's why "Little Miss Awkward" got it, to be "different". It was either that or use it as dog bedding
Anyways
Yeah we are filling up steadily, faster than I thought we would which is a bit scary. Still places available though
Goldbeetle - you mean we can run in the dark scary wood?
I think the green looks cool.. if you have any other offcuts that you want me to parade around - please let me know. My in-laws actually liked the black one
Can't believe I missed the thread about next years 'destination marathon'
So here I is dutifully reporting in.
Am just starting to try and work out a training plan which will hopefully get me back in the swing of things come New Year (after breaking myself somewhat in Snowdonia!), also got another little jaunt in May which should be good training for the main event.
Just a thought, with this being a trail marathon but being in the summer, how likely am I to need trail shoes (not done that sort of thing before .. always stuck to roads!)
First 4 pain-free tempo miles since October, so fingers crossed can begin the proper build up now. (However due to inclement conditions ... chaffing was suffered ... and of the worst kind!)
I've been studying maps in the local area to find some hills that are within an hour's distance of here and I think i've found a nice 18 miler out and back and with two large hills around 8/16 miles. Super!
I'm not sure I own a pair of floral briefs... are they being provided in the race pack?
A great little freebie that I got from an eco trail race was a little bag to attach to my camelbak that i can put my empty gel packets/rubbish in. When I first got it - I thought "what a complete waste that is" but its actually come in really useful on every race since.
I am rather hoping it's going to be far too warm for a onesie on the day - if one is due to be 'hosting' at mile 20 partaaaaay central checkpoint then I'd at least like to think I'll get a tan out of it
I'm rather looking forward to this one - just don't tell my Enigma boss lol
A year without a monsoon every other b******* day would be nice a tan might be wishing to much through. Goldie do you want me to wear floral knickers as well?
Comments

Keep warm in the winter and be green.
Available in black or grey That's one more colour than the model T Ford.
I admit - i'm jealous of your green hoody... It's a nice colour!
I've heard that the race is selling out quite quickly for any lurkers.

Oh no Bruce, all you'll need for this event is floral knickers and a onesie.
I'm going to be wearing floral knickers after our great leader and trend setter.
Onesie yes
Hoody yes
Floral briefs (not knickers) yes
Trail shoes maybe depends if there is a lot of rain could run in road shoes ok
Yay !!! The training has started !!!

You're right of course, a tan would be mandatory. It's ok, I'm sure goldie will let you off with just the floral knickers.
I'm sure he'd say: just wear only the floral knickers
A year without a monsoon every other b******* day would be nice a tan might be wishing to much through. Goldie do you want me to wear floral knickers as well?
