I haven't run off road for a while - last time i got hopelessly lost in the public footpath network where i live and ended up covering 11k instead of my intended 5k.
But today i had the opportunity to get out at lunchtime and made the most of daylight.
It was great muddy fun over fields, styles and kissing gates. Passing through fields of scattering sheep and avoiding eye contact with cows.
Then I came to a field of Llamas. I wasn't expecting that...

A wild boar in the middle of the path usually does the trick.
A camel in a field in Northumberland. There were llamas in there too, as it happens.
A bear in Bulgaria, and a camel tethered to a post in the middle of Wanstead Flats.
The bear I discovered after sh*tting myself was chained up.
And lastly this summer a girl asleep on the sea wall near Clacton legs either side of the wall with nothing on her lower extremities - to be fair that didn't stop me in my tracks, just made me spin round and run back!!!
blurdy hell - i lead a sheltered life.
Grendel3 I feel really hard done by ..I run/walk the dog every day on wanstead flats and have never seen a camel...sheeps lungs and intestines but no camel!
Are you sure she wasn't dead?
Cows with calves often stop me. They don't like dogs, you see, and will form a rather intimidating line. I don't know where they received their military training.
I had to go back and make sure i wasn't seeing things.
Llamas on my long run route too, near the seafront in the North East (North Tyneside). I was a bit shocked the first time, and now they just make me smile.
I ran hell for leather into some low-slung chains roping (if chains can rope) off part of the pavement outside a lawyer's office close to Fulham Palace Road. I went flying straight onto my nose. Very bloody, but nothing broken.
A few years ago whilst driving past a field in Lincolnshire, I had to do a double take when I saw some ostriches in a field.
Boom tish...
Ah! Someone has beaten me to Ostrich's seeing one of these creatures looking over a hedge is definately a wtf moment. I will go for seeing and hearing stags on the moor instead!
Ran round a bend last summer on the local bridlepaths and found myself face to face with a rather large herd of deer. Pretty cool actually as was within a few metres of them and totally unexpected.
migrating deer in sweden, had to wait nearly 15 mins for the whole pack to go past so we could carry on.
Grendal shi**ing himself only to find it was chained up LOL LMAO
I saw a Rhea in a field full of sheep in Upholland near Wigan
Once when we were in Spain on holidays MrGFB was out a bike ride and a massive bird flew over head and dropped a snake in his pathway!! That stopped him in his tracks!!
Back in the summer I was stopped dead by a rogue butterfly that decided to fly straight in to my face - I am terrified of butterflies!!!!
Yes. Insects of all kinds going down your throat are a nuisance. I run past a bush that always has loads of wasps round it in the summer.
I stop dead when I'm running at break-neck speed in the early hours alone & an owl with greets me with a HOOT. I just have to stop & HOOT my greetings back!
This did not happen to me but recently a friend was rather stunned to see a teenager being chased down the high street by an Emu; in Devon!
