  • LT run with 4 at ave of 6.24m/m. last one was unpleasant - i am aerobically not where i used to be due to layoff, but it will come. Some good day 2 efforts. Thinking about the taper already mark1981? Me too.....

Go Caz - You should have some mail.

Hi all - first run from P&D 55 to 70 mi schedule today, 9 miles with 4 at lactate pace (about 6.20 to 6.30 min/mi). Nice to do something a bit different as have just been plodding round at a steady pace for last few months.

    Wet and windy tomorrow.

If I'm still running marathons at 51 ill be delighted!

LOL - it's not entirely unheard of.

You're the same age as me then Caz image

  • Due to a dose of the lurgy I postponed my first P&D run. (what a way to start)

I started to feel dodgy on Friday, rested a few days, but then made the mistake of thinking I was better by Sunday and went for what turned out to be a very slow and painful 10 miler.

Feel better now so I'm hopeful that I'll be able to run tomorrow.

Yeah I was born in 1981!

Thats how old I shall be for VLM image reminds me, I must get new power pack for the zimmer image

Some fast tempo paces going on well done, mine will be 7.40ish mm

Ziggy maybe you should have tested the water and done and easy 4-5 miler..bit late now I guess , just don't over do it tomorrow.

Oh well on to the stair lift and off to bed now..image

image sorry I didnt mean to offend anyone!

I was trying to pay a compliment and I dont think it came out right!

  • No offence taken Mark, time waits for no man as the saying goes.  What's great about running is that actually age is no real barrier, you get a bit slower but I think you grow to enjoy it more as that happens.  I'm as impressed by young people running because believe all the hype in papers you shouldn't beimage

  • I have a lot of respect for anyone that can apply themselves to train for something like a marathon, however old they are.

My Dad still runs marathons and he is in his 50's and I know there'll be many 50 odd year olds that will be far quicker than me. I dont presume you are over the hill at that age!

My point was that most people dont have the drive to train like most of us on here do, i find it quite easy to motivate myself at the moment because ive only been racing for a few years so im still setting pb's in most races i do as im getting fitter.

If I still have the motivation to train after 20 years of doing this ill be happy, thats what i meant. image

    Right ill stop digging now.image

Don't worry Mark - I took it as a compliment even if nobody else did! image I'm in a similar situation to you in that I didn't start running until I was 47, so I haven't been racing all that long either. I am still hoping to improve. And I would like to think I will be doing it in 20 years time if I am capable!

Peace on Earth I got the mail. Thanks very much.

  • No offense taken Mark.  I was going to suggest that you stop digging, but you beat me to it image

Anyway, I'll be well happy if I'm still striving to finish a marathon when I'm 59 image

    So will Iimage

  • .....though, in my case it'll be the one I started when I was 51 image

I guess you'll be changing your name in another year JF50 image

  • LOL at Mark 1981 your the same age as one of my sonsimage i'm 51 and will be chasing a new pb of sub 2:58 at London do you want me to wait for you at the finishimage1961 was a great year to be bornimage

Night Nurse what colour is your go faster zimmerimage

13.61 miles medium long run done avg 7:42 paceimage

  • No pain, i dont know if youll need to wait for me or not, it depends how quick we both are, it could come down to a sprint finish and then i might be forced to kick away your walking stick old man!
  • Lol or I could kick your young arse image Thats what I love about running age has no limitimage

  • Smack talk, i like it! image

How long have you been running then NP?

Did it take you long to go sub 3? Thats my target.

  • From looking at the above posts looks like a number of us are trying to break the three hour barrier. I did mk in 3 11 in April, but that was a long course due to flooding, plus there was a storm. Hoping to break 3 by using the pd plan. 11 mile ML run tonight.
  • +1 for the sub 3hr hopeful. Mind yhou, I have 13 minutes to find since VLM last year but my HM PB points to a quicker time this year;

    Full    3.13.04 VLM 2012

    Half    1.24.40 Chester May 2012

    5k      18.34  June 2012

    Target sub 3.00 london 2013.

  • We could do with a target race list;

  • Mark no offence taken honestly just having a laugh..I know what its like when you are in your 20s/30s, anyone over 40 just seems so ancient, image

My eldest son is 31, and only took up running /triathlons this year, 10 months ago he couldn't keep up with his old mum but now he does a 41 min 10k , you are lucky to have age on your side keep up the good work you have years to improve so you will easliy get that sub 3 sooner or later...just a 1 min pb would make me happy image

Just slept off my last night shift till boxing day image
