LT run with 4 at ave of 6.24m/m. last one was unpleasant - i am aerobically not where i used to be due to layoff, but it will come. Some good day 2 efforts. Thinking about the taper already mark1981? Me too.....
Hi all - first run from P&D 55 to 70 mi schedule today, 9 miles with 4 at lactate pace (about 6.20 to 6.30 min/mi). Nice to do something a bit different as have just been plodding round at a steady pace for last few months.
Due to a dose of the lurgy I postponed my first P&D run. (what a way to start)
I started to feel dodgy on Friday, rested a few days, but then made the mistake of thinking I was better by Sunday and went for what turned out to be a very slow and painful 10 miler.
Feel better now so I'm hopeful that I'll be able to run tomorrow.
No offence taken Mark, time waits for no man as the saying goes. What's great about running is that actually age is no real barrier, you get a bit slower but I think you grow to enjoy it more as that happens. I'm as impressed by young people running because believe all the hype in papers you shouldn't be
I have a lot of respect for anyone that can apply themselves to train for something like a marathon, however old they are.
My Dad still runs marathons and he is in his 50's and I know there'll be many 50 odd year olds that will be far quicker than me. I dont presume you are over the hill at that age!
My point was that most people dont have the drive to train like most of us on here do, i find it quite easy to motivate myself at the moment because ive only been racing for a few years so im still setting pb's in most races i do as im getting fitter.
If I still have the motivation to train after 20 years of doing this ill be happy, thats what i meant.
Don't worry Mark - I took it as a compliment even if nobody else did! I'm in a similar situation to you in that I didn't start running until I was 47, so I haven't been racing all that long either. I am still hoping to improve. And I would like to think I will be doing it in 20 years time if I am capable!
LOL at Mark 1981 your the same age as one of my sons i'm 51 and will be chasing a new pb of sub 2:58 at London do you want me to wait for you at the finish1961 was a great year to be born
No pain, i dont know if youll need to wait for me or not, it depends how quick we both are, it could come down to a sprint finish and then i might be forced to kick away your walking stick old man!
From looking at the above posts looks like a number of us are trying to break the three hour barrier. I did mk in 3 11 in April, but that was a long course due to flooding, plus there was a storm. Hoping to break 3 by using the pd plan. 11 mile ML run tonight.
Mark no offence taken honestly just having a laugh..I know what its like when you are in your 20s/30s, anyone over 40 just seems so ancient,
My eldest son is 31, and only took up running /triathlons this year, 10 months ago he couldn't keep up with his old mum but now he does a 41 min 10k , you are lucky to have age on your side keep up the good work you have years to improve so you will easliy get that sub 3 sooner or later...just a 1 min pb would make me happy
Just slept off my last night shift till boxing day
looks a bit grim out there but got 11 miles to plod now
Tenjiso - All welcome here - although the thread title is pretty specific. I guess I am a muppet for including a date and event - Although it is good to put tune up races too;
Feb 17 - Mennania - Wrexham half - Sub 1:24
April 14 - Tenjiso - Brighton - Sub 4.00 (with a fair wind, etc)
April 21 - Mennania, Mark 1981, Al runs - VLM -Sub 3.00
