Im looking at buying my first gps watch in the next few weeks but have no idea what to get????? After one that gives me distance, pace, time etc and for everyday use. Any advice would be gratefully recieved. Thanks
i got a garmin 110 for christmas. nice and basic, records time, pace and distance as required. real easy to set up. from £90 with or without heart monitor, although you might prefer the black one not the girly pink and grey one like i have!
I've been using a Garmin 110 for 12 months now and had no problems, easy to use and to set up to download files into your training log on the Garmin website.
If you just want basic features you can't go wrong with a 110.
I wanted more flexibility for training - setting up intervals etc. and had limited funds so got a 2nd hand 305 for £85. Got to say after 2 months I am absolutely delighted with it.
I'm a big fan of the Nike Sportwatch GPS. I've tried a couple of Garmins in the past but have had issues connecting to satellites with them, i'm sure that doesn't apply to all of them as they seem to be very popular! I like the big, clear display on the Nike, it also comes with a shoe sensor so can carry on tracking your run if you run through a tunnel/on a treadmill for example. A lot of my friends also use the Nike+ website so it's great for me to track my runs and compare them against my mates!
Although you may only be interested in tracking your runs at the moment it is worth getting some of the features the higher spec watches (like the 405) have. I am very far from an elite runner but I find them very useful.
In particular I use the workout feature for about half my runs, especially for speed work and tempo runs, and wouldn't be without it.
It is also worth being able to customise displays. For example I display the cadence and heart rate when climbing on a bike.
Heart rate is another feature that really helps when you are trying to work out how hard you can work.
