Think there's a v small trial run coming up soon- just to check out the course and logistics.
PR thinking is to NOT advertise and let it build organically through word of mouth. In their words the last thing you want on your first PR is 300 runners turning up
Thank you for the update JD, look forward to it. If you dont mind me asking,do you have the contact details for the TROTs people organising? I'd like to get in touch if possible. Agree with PR's thinking in keeping it a small event at first. I find the Cardiff PR field too big...no wonder they have to use the Tesco car park.
A similar approach would be sensible for Singleton park, although I'd like to advertise to all local clubs in South Wales...inevitably some runners may prefer Cardiff for the PB potential & flat course.
Talking of Parkruns, we stayed near Eastbourne last weekend & went for an early Saturday walk....OH & I ended up in the middle of their local PR race - we counted 20 runners & a multi terrain course with some mud & a stream jump. Just shows how versatile a PR event can be.
Jenf and I were 2 of 20 runners for this trial event. The course was great, as was the turnout. It's not a PB course, but not suicidal either and very scenic. The cafe was right next to the finish line and the coffee was good- the cakes looked even better, but I was good!
The plan is to keep it going now I think and hopefully get it officially launched end Feb /early March
Excellent news - thank for keeping us updated on here JD. Well done to TROTS for the work in organising this.
Excellent news for anyone living in West wales not wanting the big commute to Cardiff PR.
JD - Well the house viewing Sat am was worth it by the way - we are going to put an offer in. We loved the property. Only a mile from the forest I usually train in too
my daughter is on the verge of giving birth so I can't really commit to anything right now. She has two young children who will be coming to me when she goes into labour. As soon as I can feel I can commit, I'll be along at least to marshal in the first instance. I could be there this weekend if she is not needing me
No internet connection yesterday, but managed to run! Best of both worlds- made a big snowman in my garden with my boy, then discovered that only 2 miles away the roads were snow free!
Bit of news for you all- excuse the copy and paste!
"News re Parkrun Llyn Llech Owain - official live date MARCH 23RD. Also, Jo Sinton Hewitt of Parkrun is coming to Carmarthen to speak with the volunteers, answer any questions and show the equipment they use on Wed MARCH 6TH at 5:30pm. We need as many volunteers as possible ( even if only volunteer every 3 months). veue TBC and should only take 1 hr! let us know if keen!"
If anyone here is interested, message me and I'll pass your details on
Have a race most Sundays now, but hope to make the official launch PR in March. There's a 5k race in Swansea on the 16th March, so hopefully it wont clash with that.
Quick update- practice runs have been well attended so far and plans are still to go live end of March Recommend both the coffee and the hot chocolate in the cafe- I'm also told that the bacon rolls are excellent, but I wouldn't know!
So come along and join in - same time, same place- 9am Saturday morning Llyn LLech Owain Country Park

Jenf - just curious, do you run for Llanelli AC?
Hi LTS, no, I don't belong to any club, but I hope to do the parkrun regularly, and my next race is the Llanelli Half!
