Trying to decide on a pair of trainers for the really muddy stuff. I use a pair of Adidas Kanadia TR4 but they can't handle the bad stuff this weather is throwing at me which is a shame cause they fit my feet really well and I love running in them.
I was looking at these La Sportivas but have seen on someones blog they wear out pretty quickly, any views?

If not these what are other peoples opinions?
Thanks.

Remember a decent fell shoe (X-Talon - Mudclaw - Walsh PB) will have a 5 or 6mm lower heel/toe differential than your Kanadias Jimmi...
Not heard of them ones so can't say if they are any good if it's any use both these are very good shoe's and use them for the snow.

They are good for mixed surfaces a bit if you have to do a bit on tarmac not are hard on the knee's.

These are the daddy but harder to run on tarmac.
Mudclaws are about as good as it gets for wet muddy stuff. If you are experiencing anything like the ankle deep slop I have to put up with at the moment, then I wouldn't bother looking for anything else.
However, the 333s from the post above are no longer in production though you may find some bargains out there. Both the 272s and 333s have been replaced by the 300s. There is also a new lighter weight race shoe due out next month (265?).
The mudclaws are also suprisingly good in snow if we get any more of that.
Lighter and wider than the 212's, not as flexible across the toes and didn't have as much bite in the muddy descents. But very, very good....and your toes don't look like hobbitsus afterwards.
I use Walshies!
Really? right best try and stock pile a pair for when mine fall apart they are that good.
Don't worry - the 300s are every bit as good and the laces stay done up too!
You may be able to find some end of line bargains around on the 333s
Are you saying the mudclaws good for snow too?
What is the sizing like?
I've had no problems in snow in mudclaws - definitely my preferred shoe. Not so good on hard ice but what is? I guess you are then into microspikes or at least some serious O shoes.
I take an 8 shoe in normal width and find an 8 mudclaw is fine.
Pete, you've seen my Mud-Claws after a winter of the salty brine that results from melting snow & salt
I'll go along with you - no better shoe in mud (been wearing them for the PECO-Xc series too)
As for ice, I've ordered a pair of these (@ this price!!), so they shuld be fine if it does get properly icy

Mud claw's are brilliant for show. I've got freakishly big feet and find then ok.
Ah yes I remember the salt problem but off-road that is not an issue. My 272s are still going strong and I now have the 300s waiting in the wings.
I saw the Orocs too and was very tempted - what a bargain! However, as I already have 4 pairs of Inov-8s on the go, I thought it a little excessive having a pair just for when its icey! (I've got microspikes anyway)
I also didin't fancy trying to explain yet another mail order parcel to Mrs S!
I seem to be morphing into Imelda Marcos.......
S'funny!
Me too, more Inov-8s than road shoes
2 pair Roc-Lite 315
2 pair Mud-Claw 333
1 pair OROC 340 (now)
Plus; 1 pair Wave Harriers (in the yellow)
1 pair 'More Miles Cheviots' (okay for general XC running/training, but too 'clumpy'/rigid for racing
My daughter thought that picture in the 'WhichShoes' article in the present copy of 'FellRunner' was my cupboard!!
Know what you mean - I saw that pic and thought it looked more than a bit familiar. We have a wall of running shoes in varying states of cleanliness. I think I'm up to about 8 pairs and Mrs S has a good half dozen or so. My daughter has recently joined the local AC and has now contributed 2 pairs of trainers and some spikes to the collection!
BTW - couldn't resist the Orocs. Took one look at the weather forecast last night and got the visa out. They have just despatched so hopefully be with me for a run in the snow over my local hills this weekend.
Your going to love those Orocs gents but keep an eye on the sizing, I`m a size 10 Talon 212 but needed 9.5 Oroc 280s...
Got a pair of size 10 Oroc 280s for sale £50.. only covered 6miles..
Cheers Roland,
I tried the Orocs on when i was up in the lakes last year. Know what you mean though - I take a 1/2 size down in the x-talon 212 to the mudclaw 272/300 and roclite 295.
Orocs arrived this morning. I think i was the only one at work today enjoying the large dump of snow we had. Commuting is sooo much easier with dobs!
I wore my OROCs this morning up at the 'Stanbury Splash' (-4 when we pulled up, with a strong breeze & at a 1000 foot above sea-level!!!!!!)

Whilst a fair stretch of the course would possibly have been better in the Mud-Claws (more 'bite'?), the icy stretches - mainly a 200 yard (1-in-8??) descent - were far better for the confidence factor & grip.
They did make a heck of a noise when crossing the road on the 'out' & back' though!!
Despite a dousing in a bucket of hot-water, they've lost that newness now
Heard the splash was pretty icey so a good test of the Orocs. Travelling any distance around here is nigh on impossible so contented myself with a 10 miler over some small local hills and bridalways. The orocs stood up a treat and were in a league of their own on the hard icey stuff. As you say, Mudclaws may have been better on the softer stuff but pretty chuffed nonetheless. Looking forward to trying them out in the Lakes - I think they would be OK on wet/greasy rock - so probably choose them over a Mudclaw for wet days out in the high fells.
Some photos for you Pete;

Looks like my idea of fun and good turn out too.

Hi guys, just ordered Orocs as deal on Amazon for 44 quid..will now be a heat wave just as they arriveJust a quick question, can they cope with just straightforward tarmac running, have to do a mile before hitting the trail?
Yes they can, but don't expect them to last as long as if saved for pure off-tarmac running (or icy/snowy stuff)
Cheers Richard
Just to be checky and spam for the local club this is a good race if any of you are free this weekend. Thinking might be seeing rich there already. There is some top snow on the hills at the moment so might be good fun.
