Looking at the list; very few of them offer the support and big event atmosphere I enjoy. Even Outlaw struggles against againt the major European events, only IM Wales measures up (and measures up very well).
Wales could be a contender for 2014 but it a tough course and not newbie friendly.
this list seems to indicate 20 odd races for this country for next year........whilst they all might not run the following year.we could just stick a pin in the list
Family Funkin like a foreign Pirate Sailing. Outlaw (whilst lovely and all and after all it was won by one of our very own!) just didn't cut it for us compared to the IMCH and Roth sailings.
So Foreign Sailing please, lots of time to save...and if you decide not to sail on the Foreign Ship, you'll have pennies to spend on bling instead. Job's a good 'un. If we could all go and do Challenge Wanaka please (oh that was such a gorgeous place to cheer on!) that would be super
Sweden's too bliddy expensive. OH and I got married in Copenhagen and every weekend the town is full of Swedes coming over on the ferry from Malmo because it's cheaper to drink in Denmark, and drink is more available.
Oh my word what a lot has changed in the last eight years!
If there is a pirate anniversary race in 2015 then I think maybe the remaining 'original' pirates should be the ones who choose where to go. There are probably four or five of us left including Jj who is and will always be as much pirate as any of us without having to don rubber.
The rest of you can just follow as you have all been doing since then
I have a bet on with my bro to do IM Canada in 2014, or whatever the one in Whistler is. Lets all go there!
Then a branded IM in Europe in 2015. Or Roth, really want to do Roth. Dont mind where, prob wont be allowed to go anywhere after the IM Canada costs are appreciated. I'll still win the feckin Mincer award!

My vote still goes to Kalmar, Sweden
IM Wales as a contender .. interesting!
Not newbie friendly but if you want branded AND Newbie friendly then you need to go abroad .... cant have it all ways
I loved Wales but if its picked will probably marshall and support and go for Amsters as my A race the again if i am a bit strapped for cash Wales would be the best option
Apart from the mental thing of a sea swim Wales is not much tougher than say the first Sherbourne which was my first IM these newbies need to man up plus as some wise old bird on here said they are all tough in their own way
if i remember right there was 7 or 8 of uswho did Wales as our first one
if im honest it worked quite well as a first race as there was never any chance of setting a storming timenwhich took a bit of pressure off and it became about survival, which is not a bad mindset for a first time
i guess the big thing that made it tough was the mental pressure from the bike cutt off
For me the mental pressure was feeling the caravan rocking with the wind and rain lashing against it and listening to the roar of the surf at Pendean Sands, thinking we are all going to die
I'm going to work on my manning up skills. I may make as prosthetic winkle out of an old sock.
I might have a year off in 2014 as the year off in 2013 isn't working out too well so far. I'll start saving my pennies now for 2015 because that sounds like an awesome race/venue.

think your self lucky that you weren't in a tent getting flooded and blown to pieces.........

RBM - you're right, Almere has a full and half - that's why I vote for it, 'cos I can do the half!

FF - Yep already entered the Chiltern 100! - one of my favourite events

I hear IM France is Nice?
Why did you have to mention Canada? I've always wanted to go there.......
However, as I understand it, mincing is not tolerated there - you may have to do some training
.
I'd rather we didnt leave the choice to Smiffy ..... I dont want a flat course

We will definitely start saving for the birthday bash though!
with Wales as an option there will still likely be an abroad trip for the affluent and cash savvy amongst us
and there is always the possibility that we wont have any newbies so the % of difficulty wont be an issue
Exactly.
Agreed .. on all points
