alison is making ice cream. the first batch of 2.5 litres filled two small tubs and two large tubs exactly. the second batch filled three large tubs and four small tubs with 4.3 litres. if the sizes are consistent, how much more ice cream would alison have to make to fill her whole stock of 12 large and 8 small tubs?
Comments
Don't care. I'm far more interested in what flavour the ice cream is
If it's B&J baked alaska the big batch size would need to be 25.6 litres, coz I'd eat half of it before it got into the tubs.
4.75 litres?
Is it 6?
Yes 6
+1 for 12.8
6 more but 12.8 in total
agreed
'read the question properly' as my o level maths teacher used to say
yes, but the question was 'how much MORE'. Assuming she hasn't scoffed it all, 6.8l worth of tubs are already filled.
x-post. We're all total swots.
Is this Alison married?
Small tub size S, large tub size L
2S + 2L = 2.5
4S + 3L = 4.3
Rewrite the first equation as
2L = 2.5 - 2S
L = 1.25 - S
Plug L into the 2nd equation
4S + 3 (1.25 -S) = 4.3
4S + 3.75 - 3S = 4.3
S = 4.3 - 3.75 = 0.55
Stick S into the first equation
2 * 0.55 + 2L = 2.5
2L = 2.5 - 1.1 = 1.4
L = 0.7
Alison must have a massive freezer.
the answer is..........6
well done literatin and all others who answered correctly ...you win dinner and a movie with seb coe.
thanks for playing
and a big spoon
I too got 6 more (12.8 less the current 6.8 she made earlier and is now a watery mess.)
Any other GCSE questions we can answer? Shall we talk you through the water cycle next? Need to know anything about The Blitz?
Yes, I would have thought it was one of those two.
USAAF bombings of Tokyo
Why is Alison so sad?
Has she just lost her job or her partner?
Tell her not to worry things will turn out ok in the end, they always do.
Eating too much ice-cream isn't the solution.
Wikipedia reckons:
Hiroshima: 90,000–166,000
Nagasaki: 60,000–80,000
Tokyo fire bombing: 100,000
Dresden: 25,000
Dambusters: 1,650
Looking this stuff up on wikipedia is making me feel a bit dirty. I think I prefer the algebra questions.
blitz:
40,000-43,000 civilians dead, 46,000 injured
figures for wounded possibly as high as 139,000
Blimey NLR - you know how to dampen our spirits !
