Dear all - please be advised that I have had to cancelled the Liverpool Marathon this year. Any disppointment you may feel doesn't come close to my own after two years planning and two years delivery. Looking at an alternative Half Marathon and 10K race on the Wirral side instead on the scheduled day (13th October).
The use of Liverpool roads is proving just too difficult.
Thanks to everyone that made it such a great race.
Facebook and Twitter seems busy!!!!!!!

That's sad news, glad I did it last year now though...really great event.
2 laps on the Wirral side ?
That's rubbish Alan - sorry to hear all your hard work looks to be going down the pan.
I found out yesterday I didn't have in place in the RideLondon 100 so was only looking at the BTRL website last night for entry information for the Liverpool Marathon.
I've supported family running it in the past couple of years - very disappointed I can't follow in their tracks.
Oh no, that is gutting for you Alan. So sorry. What a shame for the CIty too.
Shame on Liverpool Council.
Is the half safe?
None of the other events are affected, just the marathon.
Err Liverpool is a GREAT city Nick.
that's why I moved away to Chester...
I have no idea of the ins and outs of the reasons why Alan is struggling but I will say Liverpool Council been hit hard by government cuts. Not saying this is reason why marathon is affected but won't help.
Alan, I am hoping you can work something out for 2014, as my home marathon, it was one I was wanting to do next year and I met you at Manchester marathon expo last year and you were very passionate about it. So gutted for you.
I'm not sure the cuts are to blame - they didn't give any finance or resource to the race did they ?
All they've done is take 1000's of visitors out of the city for the weekend. Very short sighted.
DF3 - the American lady is coming over for the HALF MARATHON. The decision to cancel is about restricted road use in the city centre, not finance. The City Council does not support the event financially. Come to think of it doesn't 'support' the event..
"As Mayor of Liverpool I pledge to:
Deliver a new sense of civic pride, making our city cleaner, greener and healthier.
As Mayor of Liverpool I will continue to make Liverpool a city in which we can all be proud ??? an international beacon of enterprise, culture, learning and sport."
Hmmmmm.....
Rotten news Alan, massive disappointment for all concerned.
Email issued to major of Liverpool commenting on my dissapointment. Surely they must see the benefit of the 1000's of additional visitors over 1 weekend?
Probably not, but it will be interesting if I get a response!
I did it last year. Thoroughly enjoyed the day. My guess is it had nothing to do with money but more the fact that the city shops and businesses have had a complaint about the road closures on some of the main arterial roads into the city taking up a full day.
No excuse in my mind there are plenty more ways of getting into the city without driving all the way.
Sorry to hear it Alan
That's a shame, sorry about that Alan.
Absolutley gutted ....... I ran the race for the last two years as my first marathons and loved every moment of it. I just wish cities would think about more than just shopping and keeping the retailers happy! If you want a marathon in your city then of course its going to be an inconvenience to some people but it enriches the city because it shows it off to the rest of the country!
Thank you Alan and team for bringing the marathon to Liverpool its been great.
Now ...... which councellor should i send my complaints to?
I could imagine some of the shops thinking customers stay away with the roads being closed. On the other hand, I wonder how much business is generated in the shops / cafes / restaurants / hotels (etc) from runners and supporters on Marathon weekend? We were in Sefton Park last year for the race and the cafes were doing great business.
The only time I'm in Liverpool on a Sundays are thanks to running the Liverpool Half or Marathons ! Shopping after a marathon isn't that much fun. Who knew ?
