  • Oooh yes please Chilli, mmmmmmm I love pancakes. I just have to think of something to give up for lent now.

Thanks Franny, I did enjoy the run and felt quite strong. I just cant wait till London now.

Loula, you will get out soon. It must be difficult to find the time lately.

  • aw yes i will im sure Ecks. must be harder for you !! i only habe one child- and you do so much !

  • Well, I spent over an hour cooking a couple of pints of pancake batter and they were scoffed within 5 mins!

Am now off to swim.... do you think I'll sink?

  • Loula, its easier as Big Girl is 17 this year and so old enough to look after the others for an hour or so. I have been struggling lately but I need to make sure that I can get my miles in.

Chilli they must have enjoyed them.

  • Eckytump-well done on your 11 miles.I will repromote my sponsorship nearer to the big day.

    Llb-Hope you get out soon.

Franny-We are going to gun wharf keys in Portsmouth-lots of shops for Mrs AF-then stay down there and go out for a meal & come back Sunday pm.Then hopefully next year up to your neck of the woods.

Re training 26 miles seems such a long way from where I am at the moment-I am getting a little apprehensive. How many & how long have your runs been per marathon?
  • well done everyone on all your running

boss - you will be fine, just trust the plan and don't try to do too much or you may not even get to the start line

was going to go out for a walk this evening but I got in late and am pretty tired, so I think it is an early night for me

no pancakes here so yes please chilli if there are any left

  • Oh, I didn't realise it was pancake day, but I only got in half an hour ago (at 8.30pm ) and everybody else had eaten so it wouldn't have been possible anyway.

Well done on all you running and fitness stuff everybody and MC - give your arms a good rest!

Just off to put the kiddies to bed.....

  • Evening

Aw Loula sis I hope you get out a run soon.

AF...I do between 2 and 5 runs over 20 miles before a marathon but think last year that was too much for me.It all depends how quickly you recover from them...no point in doing 5 long runs if you aren't recovered enough in between. This year i am only planning 2 over the 20 and possibly one of them will be 22...wil see how I feel nearer the time if i can fit a 3rd in. Just make sure you are recovered well in between your long run and speed sessions.

  • Waves to Jude.....sorry didn't see you there....Hope your meeting wasn't too boring...rest up now hunimage

  • Jude - what a long day! and at the beginning of the week too

  • Just come back from a 5.34km - with a bit of a difference:  Remember I said last time I ran that my fitness had gone out of the window and that I was fatigued at around 15 minutes?  Well today when I got tired, I kept finding more and I felt that I was going at a good clip today.

I'm thinking it might be down to the latest addition to my diet: oatmeal shakes.  I've only been drinking them for a couple of days, but today I really felt like I had a lot more energy!  I'm taking oatmeal shakes to increase my calorie intake (yes, you heard right).  I've decided to make my main goal to build muscle: after all the more muscle mass you have, the more calories you burn anyway.  Not looking to get huge; I've always found that a bit freaky looking and at 5ft 6in it wouldn't suit me anyway.  Just nice and athletic - like your average Premiership footballer would do. image

Next time I go, I'll use a route I know is exactly 5k - if I trash my PB, then I have my answer, eh? image

  • Working from home tomorrow, so early start in the gym.  Try to be in there for 6.30 and get an hour in, and still start work before 8am.  Which I really need given that I have brought work home this evening and am stuck in front of the laptop now.  Probably do another 5k+ at 9kph, see whether I can get to 5.5k, assess and then perhaps push on to 6k.

  • Its Valentines day soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! imageimageimage

  • Yes dear...  That one day of the year when you can throw an inordinate amount of money to a card company/restaurant/florist to tell your dearest that you love them...  Fifty-f@cking-quid for a bunch of Roses from M&S?  M&S of all places?  Why?  I've seen (and bought, not for myself you understand) absolutely gorgeous dress for about that, so Roses?  No thank you very blo@@dy much.

Sorry, just hate the whole commercialism of love.

  • And before anyone asks, no I didn't forget

    (this year)

  • So do I.  Why should there be one day where you show someone you love them?  And for single people, why should there be one day when they feel even more like crap than usual?

Valentine's Day is a load of commercial rubbish.

  • Wholeheartedly agree,  You should feel equally crap whatever day of the week/month/year...

Or was that not your point? image

  • Sorry - I detest Valentine's Day for two reasons: one, it's commercial BS and two I split up with an ex. on Valentine's Day of all days.image

  • AF - for my first two marathons the longest I did was 20 miles. But I'm very slow so that took me 4hrs. And I was very happy with my end result. Last summer I did quite a few long runs but that is cos I was running the Ridgeway and two marathons quite close together. The body definitely gets used to it.

This first part of the year is training for the half ironman so it/s all about the bike. Although I'm still planning to do 15 mile LSR before the event. I will then probably do a couple of 20ish miles before my hoped for marathon at end of August. Am kind of hoping that we can have a CRAC meet on the Ridgeway again this summer for fun/training.

Only 40 lengths of swim today cos pool was crowded and I had to share playing with Smidge with my Big Girl.

Valentine Day is special in our house cos it's my Smidge's birthday. She's 6 on Thursday!

  • I think of Valentines Day ... as just one more day that I get to tell my honey that I love her.  And she's worth more than money ... she's worth my life. image

  • Morning all!

    Happy Birthday to Smidge tomorrow!

Hubby's birthday tomorrow too.  He's 44. Hubby doesn't do anything for Valentine's Day but I don't mind coz I know he loves me. (Well, I sort of mind but I love him anyway!)

Gosh, I feel tired already and we've only been back for 2 days!

    Have a good day all!

  • Morning (shivers and huddles over heater)

Cat safely landed settled.  She has a built-in fur coat.  Me - trying to pluck up courage to go outsideimage.  Got to do some downhill intervals later.

  • morning all!!!!!!!

interesting views on valentines day then!! well , i agree that it is like lots of other days terribly over priced and hyped. i dont agree with £50 0r even £30 for a bunch of roses that normally cost a tenner at most but its kinda sweet that there is one day as Mr Chili says thats an extra day to show you care fo your beloved. image ths  year i wont have to spend a thing!! lol

  • morning all

we don't do the valentines day thing either - but OH always checks with me before that we aren't doing anythingimage I guess he wants to make sure he doesn't end up in the bad booksimage

RR - I like the sound of oatmeal shakes

  • MOOOOORNING

I must admit I dont go for all the over exensive stuff on Valentines but it's nice to have an excuse to get Mr Ecky a little pressie as he never has anything for himself and it's a way of justifiying it. We had a nice meal last night too as we are busy the rest of the week so just something a bit special and we ate after the kids which is very unusual. Little Ecky did spoil the quiet by coming in a shooting us with his Nerf Blasters but it was still lovely.

Awwww Chilli, how lovely that its Smidges Birthday soon. Wow big 6, don't they grow up fast.

No running for me today as I have middle Ecky off sick.

Hope everyone has a lovely day.

  • Hubby has reminded me that he won't be 44 but 46.  When you get this old it's hard to remember exactly how old you areimage.

Looking forward to a night out on Friday.  There is a foreigners' meet up in a bar which actually happens every month but we have never been before.  I have persuaded hubby to go so we can meet some new faces.  Haven't been to a bar in years.....

I'm at school and shouldn't be on hereimage so BFN.

  • I'm sure there are loads of people who would love to spend a virtual valentines day with you Lou.  If that doesn't sound too creepy.  Or desparate.

Anyway, back to more important matters.  Managed 3k down the gym this morning, before the emergency stop button actviated itself.

So I did another 5k!!.  Solid 9kph through the full 8 (apart from 2 interludes, see below).  I was intending on only doing another 2k to make up to the 5, but then I decided to push for the 3.  By the time I'd hit 3, I was well into my stride, but then Fever came over the headphones - Madonna's Erotica and Daft Punk's Human After All were the tracks du jour.

Anyway, Fever came on, and I got my second wind, so pushed the speed up to 9.5k.  For all of 500m before I decided that I had made a mistake.  Then Bye Bye Baby, which is always an upbeat one to motivate you.  I was hoping to end on that one, but we nudged into Deeper and Deeper, another thumping track, to finish on high note.  Sadly at 4.5k (so 7.5k overall) I had just hit the edges of the wall, and had to back it off.  6kph for 70m isn't bad before I decided to give it one last push, and did the final 1500m back at the 9kph, being driven on by the vision of Madonnna 20 years ago (bloody hell!!  Erotica was, I think, my first cd as a spotty 12 year old, and I got my Dad to buy it for me, as I was away at school and had no access to shops!!).

Anyway, 8k down and I feel so much better for it.  And have hit the feety lows of 87.9kg!!  It wasn't much after Erotica was released that I last weighed this little!!

  • Mr byeck-Well done on your run. I like your commentry!! Madonna 20 years ago- yes very nice. Still think she looked good in the hung up video. When I was runninbg yesterday the song Can Plan Pour Moi by Plastic Bertrand came on- what a great running tune! Well done on the weight loss. Can't remeber where you started from.

    RE-Oatmeal shakes sounds good.

Lots of Birthday's - Happy Birthday for tomorrow Mr Jude- AND 46 IS NOT OLD!!! Happy Birthday Master Smidge & Mrs AF!

Valantines day is a commerial con. I buy Mrs AF flowers every other week and will not be ripped off by buying 12 roses for a rediculous amount- they willl be half price on firday anyway. I have bought a card and we are going away for the weekend.

No running today, 4-5 miles tomorow and 16 friday.

RE Marathon training- thank's for everyones comments. I am intedning to do 1 20 mile race and at least one 20 mile run (perhaps another time permitting) and weekly runs in excess of 14 miles.

Plastic Bertrand...  Now there's an unusual one.  Great track, and I can see how that would be a good one.  I need to sort myself out a few running play lists of some really high tempo tracks to run to.  I have enough 90s dance music to be able to achieve that - Strike's You Sure Do for instance?

Started weigh (see what I did there...) back in 2010 at 117.5kg.  I'd got down to 89Kg when I had my knee op in August 2012, and that really hit my training schedule.  I started the year back up at 92.7 and determined to shift the weight, so as well as keeping to the 2 days a week in the gym, and actually have them as set days rather than trying to fit them in (although this week it will be three), I also got the turbo trainer out so its another 2 days on the turbo trainer.  I'm chuffed with 97.9 now.  Just over 5kg to go before target is achieved, 35kg (30%) down on where I started.  I'm already 25% down.
