  • 20 minutes in and you'll be dropping the jacket, give it a go
  • SHADESSHADES ✭✭✭✭

I would not be dropping the jacket.   I ran Draycote 35 one year when it was warmer than that and had to DNF due to the cold.   Friend of mine suffered frostbite that day too...on his ears!

Not worth travelling from Devon to DNFimage

Am still hoping the weather forecast will change

  • was hoping for a bit warmer but will wear a jacket over my vest and longseele top plus a woolie hat and gloves  and shorts trained all winter plus worked as a postie in swansea in them all being well will be o k think i am looking forward to it only one run so far this week  plus doing my del last day at work tomorrow hitting the donuts and pasta this week

Really -7? I had missed that. I'll take a few layers as been training and manual work this week so will be slow. I'm assuming that this course will be very exposed

  • Guys, I ran on the course this morning - this was the view. It was fresh but not overly cold.

Just walked 30 mins out there now and it was colder but still ok.

    Nice photo Kev!

I'm going to be handing out the water n jelly babies on saturday image so I may poss have my down jacket on!!!

QB, the coast part of the course can be a bit exposed, but the loop up to Tumble is woody and more sheltered.

    Good luck to everyone running.

  • lush picture Kev. Come on shades come and join the party . I've got 2 days off now because of weather to cold to fix in my game so will relax for 2 days . Just done a slow 4 tonight 2 on Friday before getting train over the bridge . Looking forward to the run.have you done the exmoor ultra shades ? ?

My friend and I will decide Friday morning whether to run, dependant on forecast.  Last year I didn't run any races if the temp was less than +10 degrees as I was carrying a hamstring origin injury and that injury has now healed.   But I still suffer in the cold, wouldn't mind so much for a marathon but 40 miles is a lot longer out on the course, don't want to risk injury as I have an important target to meet later in the year.

blakester-  No, never done Exmoor.  I don't do off road events, tough race I believe.

  • Thanks shades have entered good training run for the wall run only problem week before London marathon ... Any updates on weather . Donuts sounds good Swansea imp . Good work jenf will say hello keep up the good work ...
  • thats work finished  walk to pick the two youngest up from school then a little run tonight then rest tomorrow got to admit wish it was a little warmer on saturday i have ended up with bad colds after two races on part of the course but it could be worse it could be raining or snowing remember we had bad bad hailstones doing  the half on that course one yeargood old british weather

Sadly I've just emailed Matt to say that I won't be running tomorrow.  Just too cold for me.   When I left work yesterday it was +3, I parked the car and walked to the bank and nearly froze in the wind, so so cold and I know I couldn't run any more than a short run in those sort of conditions

Hope to be back next year in warmer conditions, would love this race to be on in the summerimage

So I hope you all have a good run, wrap up warmlyimage

    Bad news shades image

But, almost perfect running weather for me if it stays like it is image Long-sleeved Helly Hansen with a warm t-shirt on top and I'll be fine. Will stash a lightweight windproof into my pack just in case.

Looking forward to it now, had a great run there last year... I'll be the one religiously run/walking 25:5, so if you see me walking at around 3 miles don't worry - it's all part of the master plan!

Oh - and I'm doing the Exmoor Ultra this year, (AdventureHub and CTS ones as training for UTSW100 in June)

  • Just got back from a 2 mile warm down run very cold wind up to the airport but warmed up after the first mile.

Hi geeem have you done the exmoor ultra before ?

Think of us shades when you having your hot choc sorry you not coming ...
  • GeeeMGeeeM ✭✭✭

I take it you mean the AdventureHub one? No - but I know a man who has - he'll be there tomorrow too, probably wearing an Islwyn RC club top.

For what it's worth, he told me it's brutal - in fact he spent most of the 7-hours or-so of the Compton 40 last year telling me how bad it was... But he's doing it again image

  • CTS endurance life down heddon valley lynmouth 34 miles.. Its hardcore should be good training for the wall in June ..good luck tomorrow . Will have a brown timberland pack bag on full of soup I think . Say hi when you walk pass me enjoy.

Aha - I'm doing the CTS one as well image I did the CTS Exmoor marathon 2 years ago - the ultra is "just" an extra loop of the first 10k, which you do at the start before heading off towards Lynmouth.

The trails are good, it's well marked, (although I took a wrong turn in 2011 and did an extra couple of miles) probably about 8,000' of ascent, (tomorrow there's less than 700') This is my garmin from the marathon in 2011, you should be able to make out the first loop, (to the left of the start/finish)

Will say hello, I'll be #79 if the entry list on the website is correct
