If you were only allowed to enter one race a year, which one would you pick?
Can be here or abroad, but assume that entry into your chose race is guaranteed, so there would be no problem with entering and not getting a place (à la VLM).
I'd pick the South Downs (Relay) Marathon , beautiful scenery, challenging course, reasonable entry fee and you can pick full, half or relay marathon. The stage I usually take for my relay team is a nice start to the trail running season too.

The Big Sur Marathon. I drove through Big Sur on hol last year and it's stunning.
Race 4 Life just for a laugh!

Yeah... but 99% of the field can't move above walking pace so we are not really in danger. Plus they are pack animals all wearing bright pink so they can't sneak up on anyone!
But then again like VLM, It's yet another race DF3 can't get an entry in
i refuse resolutely to be an 'all clad in pink' runner.....
actually David exercise is meant to relieve PMT so you could be in worse places....
Wib, you could get trampled to death if you think about it...in the rush for the loo afterwards when theyve all drunk the 5 litres of water throughout.....
That is a basic rule - Never stand between the R4L finish line and the portaloo.
Anyway sorry... highjacking the thread there!
One race... Western States.
well yes WS would be my choice too but thats a ballot thingy
Read the rules at the top!!!
are we back on RFL?
I'll be the first to say the London Marathon then. It's (literally) on my doorstep and even when I can enter as many races as I like, I plan more or less half the year around a Spring marathon. I'm more likely to keep up a decent volume of training if I've got a marathon to aim for.
...That is unless I can add my own caveat: if all expenses are paid for race entry, travel, and a long weekend around the race (one needs time to acclimatise!) then I could possibly forego the London Marathon for a yearly pre-Christmas trip to New York.
I have dreams of WS after watching 'unbreakable'......
So was it you then David who was eagerly reading a copy of this months RW on the 7.20 into Cannon street last week. If it was, I would lose the bright green trainers they don't go with your suit.
Oh forgot to say which one and only race I would do....probably go for something very long to get my years worth of trainning value so MdS
Kona.
west highland way race
In that case the Niagara Falls marathon.
Does this assume that parkruns, being 5k time trials are not races and I can do as many of those I want?
I guess I'd choose a hilly off road marathon, bit pointless if all I could do was one 800m race each year.
