  • I'm in the Hotel Cujas Pantheon. Both welcome to hang out there if it's any use. It's less than 1km from Corcorans.

My brother in law suggested we travel back on sunday night. I said, first marathon, no beer all weekend, you're having a laugh. I'm getting plastered.

me too bro - but i'll be the man " whos bin drinkin!" on the stinky train back to St Pancras. Then back in my local for a couple of swifties at 10.30.  Would love to get bladdered in Paris with you all, but Mrs C will unleash the fury of Satan upon me if i do.image

  • God Bless Weedy and all that sail on him! (cheers man i might just do that)

  • (yeah still on endorphin high)

aww, that's great...  some support will be good...  lets see if we can make it happen.. image

Jimbob - DV is the List Fairy this year.

There are 63 names in the latest list (page 491)

Not everyone on the list will turn up for the meal or Corcorrans but I'm thinking that there could be quite a few who will this year and some may bring supporters.

Cross post with DV - on the ball as usual.
  • DV - please could you add "Jimbob's mate Dan" to the list bib 52997.  He's in Grey as well, but we are both upgrading to Green (hopefully) - leave us in grey for now!

If there are any swapsies come the saturday night - would you be able to post a revised list on here - so we know who to look out for in our pens?

Jimbob. If this year is the same as previous years then there will be a photo call at the Arc de Triomphe around 7:45 - 8am. That way you can find your pen pals. Mind you, I didn't make it to the Arc in time last year image

I think if you went looking for someone in the pen you may well have your work cut out - especially as you can enter the pen from either side of the Champs Elysee and they are quite big.
  • Yes photo call usually happens at 8am sharp at the bottom of the Arc de Triomphe. It's typically cold, a bit windy and everyone is nervous about getting their bags dropped off and in to the pens on time. So people don't hang around for long. 5-10 mins max.

Hello Richard. Tell us a bit about yourself. What's that on your head?
  • Aww, look at the puddy tat! Ahem image

Public service announcement - for those doing the London you-know-what, Thames Clippers are doing an express service down the river to Greenwich - within walking distance of the start. So if you're staying somewhere within striking distance of The Embankment/London Bridge/Charing Cross areas, well worth considering. It's way more civilised than the underground. More here http://www.thamesclippers.com/images/pdf/marathon_timetable.pdf
  • RR - I'm staying in Blackheath for that one and from what I can tell should be able to walk up to the start. I've have to admit to looking over a good few menus for my post race pig out for that one, so far Bodean's BBQ looks tempting. I might try and grab a matinee ticket for one of the west end shows or plays on the Saturday to rest the legs and pretend I'm all cultured!

I had a short run after work tonight, sticking to a very well known route as I'm sans GPS to calculate my distance. Going on an old fashioned stop watch I managed an 8:22 m/m average pace. That's the best I've done in a while. Its been a better week for me running wise if not for watch deaths. Hopefully my Garmin 410 turns up tomorrow for Saturdays 20 mile LSR.

  • Eggy - sounds like you've built back to your speed really well. Paris goal should be achievable?

  • Dannirr - I'll be well short of my original goal time. I was originally targeting a new PB wanting to post a 3:45. My times are well down on what I was running last year and on my long runs the injury has been giving me some concern. Add to that I'm well down on mileage after injury then illness.

On the plus side I certainly getting better. Until last week I hadn't managed a single run in a 8:xx m/m average pace. This week I've done all three runs so far in that area. I think Saturdays run will be a good test. Two weeks ago I did an 18 mile LSR at 11 m/m average pace and was suffering. Last week I managed 20 miles at 10:31 m/m average and found it tough. If I can get this weeks 20 closer to 10 minute miles I'll feel much more confident about Paris and being able to get around and enjoy it.

I made the mistake in Berlin a couple of years ago of thinking I could try for a PB after an injury hit training schedule (based on running a new PB in a half a few weeks before) and boy did I suffer through the second half of that one. A lesson was learned and Paris and London for me are about getting fit enough to get around at LSR pace.

With all these mouth watering stories it's going to be a long 5 weeks. I was waiting for a comment about the 10000th message. Weedy posted O-Robot picture just before, genius!

April last year I joked with a friend who turned 40 and she reminded me that I was born the same year. The next day I went out for a run, 500m I stopped and walked back. I signed up for a 10k to give me a goal, then 20k. 3 days later after the 20k the marathon inscriptions opened, I signed up before reading about the preparation. It's not wise to go 0 to 42k in such a short time but I would love to have a story to tell. Well done Jimbob and Trevor, I've only lost 13kgimage . Hope to hear your story Weedy.

DV asked if the first timers needed advice, just following the thread is great support, knowing someone will answer if we have the slightest concern from which portaloo to use to which shoes to wear.

I still have 3 x 30km plus tapering to go before joining you all at the Arc. Bring it on!

Yeah, Eggy! Back in the saddle.

And what an impressive list..image Maybe we'll get a discount in the pub.

I'm off to Paris for the Semi. Well, for the lunch with tartanpimpernel, mainly. Coincidently,it's Fashion Week. 'Chances are I'll be rounded up by the Style Police, taken beyond the peripherique and shot...

  • ATM - Have a great time in Paris.

  • OrbuttOrbutt ✭✭✭
ATM - have fun. We expect a full report image
  • ATM wear that leather mini skirt you wore last time I saw you....they'll have you on the front page of Vogue with those legs Madame...
  • ATM - do they really have Style Police in Paris? I may have to cancel. Will my insurance policy cover this?
  • PC -PC - ✭✭✭
    Good luck ATM.

Simon, there's no such thing as style police otherwise I would be in prison. Did a HM last weekend. After 10k started to get hot, had no pocketd so put my gloves under my hat. At the finish there was a photographer and I thought I could add my picture to the who's who but it looks like I've got a deformed head.
  • ATMATM ✭✭✭

I find that my trusty balaclava makes me invisible , Simon. It's like being a superheo without the civic responsibility... I've checked my insurance policy and, sure enough, anyone owning trainers is excluded from comprehensive style-cover. Don't even think about packing your sock 'n'sandals...
