I know this has been discussed before somewhere, but couldn't find it ...
I don't have long locks, but am really fed up of horrible hair everyday, even after I've used swim shampoo (from Boots) and used fancy conditioner (from a race goodie bag), and even on days I'm not swimming.
Does anyone have the magic formula, or shall I just shave it all off and then grow it back after Outlaw?

The magic formula is to wet your hair before swimming ... hair is porous but only to an extent so once it is wet it cant absorb any more
Wetting the hair will prevent it from absorbing chlorine
I swim regular -ish, I dont prewet mine as its too flipping long but I do wear a good swim hat and it rarely gets soaked .. seems in pretty good nick ??
Agree with Meldy - advice I've received from a couple of hairdressers (not that I frequent them). Wet hair thoroughly and then put swim cap on. To be honest I didn't find the special swim and gym shampoo any better than anything else and now use a cheap 2 in 1 for the gym.
What they said, and you could also put a wee bit of conditioner on your wet hair before you put your cap on
I read that as 'you could wee a bit on your wet hair'.
Although I have no business being in this thread at all.
I have long hair and it always gets soaked under the swim cap. No matter what I do, I hadn't heard about pre wetting it and to be honest that seems a faff.
I use Aussie Miracle Moist shampoo and conditioner on swim days and that seems to work well, I occasionally have to attack the ends with fizz eaze which is a first for me as I normally have poker straight hair.
The shampooconditioner is available in travel size for not stupid money in Tescos which works well for me as less to lug to the pool.
"It seems a bit of a faff" to wet your hair before going into the pool?
I've heard it all now!
You have to shower before going in to the pool so just put your swim cap on after that rather than before - no added faffage at all.
Absolutely! Just bend over the toilet and give it a flush, works every time!
If you could manage that, CD, I'd be impressed
I put my hat on when I get changed so before I have the pre swim shower and my goggles on over that. So I'd have to do that after I'd showers which is in public and I'm crap at putting my swim hat on, usually pings away from me at least once.
Also with the long hair I'm going to have to spend longer in the pre-swim shower to get it all thoroughly wet.
So yeah for me personally a faff
Never said I was co-ordinated.
Fair enough !
I use the a combined shampoo/conditioner, and then use the Aussie Miracle leave in conditioner (it's a spray one I use before drying my hair)
Brit .. I have waist length hair, sounds to me like you need a better swim hat? Try a silicone one
I think you may have found your problem
I'm now even more jealous of Meldy as mines only shoulder length. I gave the extra faff a try this morning, to early to tell but wasn much grief so I shall keep on wetting hair pre swim and see if it helps.
Hubby moanded last night that I stank of chloreine despite my having had a very thorough shower with extra smelly orange shower gel.
no
Seems I'm quite opinionated on hair, although I really am quite manly...
