I'm in First Steyning Stinger, ran Beachy in October and got the off-road marathon bug. How does Steyning compare to Beachy, in terms of hills, the terrain?
Almost identical. They are both run over the downs so the hills are similar. Of course you don't have the steps or the 7 sisters at the end which in my mind will always make Beachy tougher than other races.
Last year was epic, I finished just under 5 hrs and felt awful, freezing cold, wet and grumpy. A must do for 2013 hope it every bit as challenging as last year.
Still a way off but looks like it will be about 8c and dry. Those trails dry out quite fast so would probably get away with normal trainers. I believe numbers are to be picked up on the day but do we recieve anything in the post beforehand? It IS an 8.30am start isn't it?(for the full marathon)
There is a bit of a lack of information with no contact (seemingly) before the race. Is parking easy enough on the morning? The race starts at 8.30 right?
Marathon start is officially 8.30 but you can start earlier if you like. One of the many cool aspects of this event. Plenty of parking if you are early enough. Collect your number etc as normal from race hq in the school. Not sure it has sold out before so this year could be rather busy and parking might be an issue. I'd get there by 7.30 to be sure.
What a fantastic race - my first Stinger and definitely won't be my last
I thought the pre-race organisation was done down to a tee, the marshalls were so friendly and encouraging, the checkpoint stations were well stocked and the course was fantastic. And that free veggie breakfast at the end....definitely worth running 26 miles for
As ever a great race, so a big thank you to all involved. Only one request can we go back to the old route for next year as I missed hurtling down the traditional final descent.
Agree, agree. This is how a race should be run. One minor eyebrow raiser for me was the start any time you like policy. I think this backfired somewhat as some there seemed to be a lot of people who ran extra miles. A few extra miles would have done me in! Moaning only in the way of trying to give positive feedback but otherwise a brilliant event. Thanks to the wonderful marshals,
I have always started early in the past and have never previously been sent the wrong way; I actually really like the staggered start...but then I really like the low key, no pressure feel it allows.
Yep - was a good race, well stocked, maybe could have done with a couple more signs in a few places, but nothing too dramatic. Great weather for it in the end as well. Results are up here http://www.steyningac.co.uk/

This is England. Don't be so optimistic, it could be bright beautiful sunshine and blue skies.

I can't decide between the marathon and the half.

Cheers for that - quite a hilly beast then
Any locals know how the ground is looking for this at the moment?
Studs advisable? (they certainly helped at 3 forts last year)

Hi
Looking to do the half or full but the website says entries are full.
I would be willing to buy an entry off anybody who is injured or who cannot run.
Cheers
Craig
The ground is still very soggy in places, a little light rain is forecast between now and then but nothing to make any difference.
I'm missing out again this year as I stopped running over Christmas and now I'm getting married instead.
Yeah it's just show up, register that you're there and go.
Cheers for the ground report Mrs Hog... I guess just bring them all and decide on the morning.
Great event. Good luck and enjoy.
Great, I'm planning an 8 o'clock start as I need to be in Brighton by 3. Plus that way it will look like I'm winning for a while .
Did you not receive a letter about it SussexRunner?
I'm pretty sure I read that they mark you in at each checkpoint - cant remember what it said about timing chips but would guess they use them.
Results wise, they check you out and then back in - they have always been accurate over the years with my time.

Completely agree. Fab course apart from the last 2 miles. I hope this year's diversion was a one-off.

Many thanks to the organisers and marshals. Really enjoyed the race.
I haven't done the course before but I enjoyed the final 2 miles.
Anybody have a link to the results yet ?
