thought I'd put a link for F3 events on here as they do quite a few tri's/swims in the area, many of which are in the Thames if anyone wants to practice

  • Thanks for the link fraggle. I'm tempted with one of their swims and perhaps the Little Dipper or longest day sportive.

  • I'll be doing some of their events Soupy, just not decided which one(s) yet. The Little Dipper does involve *that* hill though!

  • And more besides I think. All the more reason for doing it. image Won't be doing the Big Dipper though thats for sure.

  • I did the 90k longest day sportive. Some nutters (Meldy & Barlos) did the 180k option. Waaay to early in the season for that!

VoTwo do similar events at Dorney and around the coast for swimming.

  • No-one can ride 180k in one go. FACT!

Isn't there a comet in the sky this month to warn against riding that far?

  • I'm not local enough to do many of the F3 events but I have signed up for the Marlow HIM, has anyone else?

I did 64km today and noticed that the world wobbled a bit, if I'd kept going I'm sure it would have implodedimage. Thankfully this is the last hard day this week until a 10km race on Sunday, just a 1hr swim, 1hr 100rpm turbo and 1:15 run to fit in.

  • World still her ST so you obviously didn't overdo it.

I had an interesting swim session today. I'd been set some tempo pyramids so using a tempo trainer I went up and down various stroke rates for each length and noting my stroke count for each.  Really need to sort my breathing out because as the stroke got faster I didn't have time to exhale and spluttered.

I saw the Marlow HIM and was tempted but I'm already entered Enduroman half and SA's DIY event.

  • I have worked out that riding outside is just like on the turbo but with a really big fly wheel!

  • Gone a bit quite in here hasn't it. Hope very had a good week last week.

Not a bad week for me last week. I shifted a few sessions round and did my long bike and long run early in the week so I had a chance at a good 10km on Sunday. My long ride was the longest I've done again and was 40miles in 2:30 over a reasonable undulating route. With 3 good swim session my total for the week is 10:30 so well please with that and I topped it off with a 41:36 10km on Sunday which was a 2min PB.

For some reason I've managed to get talked into doing a charity bike ride, Cambridge to Southend, on Saturday. Its a 75mile route and not flat and I expect it will take me about 5 hours or slightly more. I should be able to make it but need to take it easy at the beginning and not get carried away. I hope the weather improves a bit too.

  • Nice one that Scuba.

I've got a decent 3.8 km swim done. That was an achievement all on its own.
My bike is bugered with two g's. The old hack is on the turbo.
The run could do with another 22 miler before April, or the Stratty mara will be lame.

  • I had a great week last week! 4 swims, couple of hundred miles on the bike but best of all was a 17.5 mile run on Sunday. Furthest I've ever been and I could've done more but I said I'd be home by 1 and it was 1.15 when I looked at the time.

Blisters, I'm looking forward to meeting you (and you probably beating me!) at my first marathon at Stratford.

  • Morning. Long wet bike on the cards for me today. 40 miles planned.

What happened to you bike Blisters?

Some massive mileage going on here. I'm still at the other end of the scale. Don't want to peak too early.  I'm following Finks advice of slowly turning a polystyrene cup inside out. I'll get there though in my own way.

I'm also doing Stratford but just the half. It will be a slow run/walk. My longest run so far is 7 miles. image

  • Cheggers, don't count on me trying to muller the marathon. It's a fun run this time around.

Soupy, my bike's free wheel stopped being free. The local bike shop needed a part for it and they haven't been back in touch since. It appears that they may like bikes but dislike telephones. I've not had a chance to chase them anyway.

  • Nice work scuba lots of pb's is always a nice feeling!

Blisters at least it's the freewheel, worst case scenario is new/rebuilt hub or new wheel... Stupid question can't u wack on the wheel from your other bike? That's what I would do... Or race wheels if your minted image

I've had a decent week with a mile swim pb of 28:32 I suck massive arse at swimming so this is great for me.... Also I have another race at the weekend Kingston breakfast run 16 miler... Then on the 7th of April the joker sportive in Salisbury 150k of fun in the hills.... Off this week so I plan on getting at least 1-2 century rides in!
  • Evening. I don't even know what a freewheel is. image Is it what I call a front wheel?

1200m swim today. Breathing still difficult and swallowed a bit of pool water and spluttered toward the end. But 1200m in the bag.

  • Soup - the freewheel is part of the hub on the rear wheel, you know that click click sound when your coasting that's the free, if it doesn't work it will lock up and it will either seize the hub up all together or turn it into a fixie... Which doesn't allow you too coast at all. In short it allows you too free wheel image oh and well done on the 1200m swim nice work image
  • Ah, thanks for the explanation jamie. I like to freewheel. I do a lot of that lol. Can't understand why anyone would have a fixie. Devil's invention that if you ask me. image

  • Soupy and Jamie. Not such a stupid question. Unfortunately, the Old Hack that I refer to is a bike that looks a bit like a racing bike, but is in fact a touring bike. The wheels are 26" x 1.25" and 5 speed hub. They are a slightly different size in every dimension, and there's no chance of them fitting. To get this bike onto the turbo I had to do a nut and bolt rebuild to the machine to allow for the new diameter.

    Anyway, bad news/good news.
Bad news: the freehub was fcked. The one they had in the shop was dodgy. The new one that was sent was bggered. The hub on the wheel was also horrid.

Good news. Specialized gave me a new set of wheels, of a higher specification. Well chuffed.

  • Back from Lanza! Had a great time (again) - looking forward to next year already. Managed some OK training on the bike including a 4 hour ride taking in the Haria and Mirador Del Rio climbs. Last 30 mins was tough - hadn't eaten enough. Run training was well down though as it was very hot out there. Unfortunately Lager got in the way towards the end of the week so the last couple of days were a training wash out. image

Back in cold Blighty now and will be putting in a reasonable weekend of training to get myself back on track. Still feel a bit hungover/tired so am taking today off and I have my eyes on a take out curry tonight.

  • Blister - Nice result in the end on your bike.

Soup - Good to see your swimming coming on, its hard to judge progress, running and biking seems very gradual but swimming seems to come in steps.

Bagder - Welcome back, still jealous of your warm weather training. Must be a bit of a shock to the system to get back to this weather.

My charity Cambridge to Southend ride was canceled due to bad weather yesterday, so instead of taking this as a good reason to do something else I went out for 2:40 (43miles) in snow and wind with a mate from the tri club. It was horrendous, hard to see where I was going due to snow on my glasses, slush on the road and cold as anything. Not only was it a good few hours and miles banked but also a mental exercise even when its hard going i can keep to the task.

Gentle 1 hour run later should make 11 hours for the week. Still a couple of hours ahead of fink due to extra swim session, longer weekend ride and a bit of extra running. Hope this is enough to build my base but not enough to cause burn out.

  • ST - nice work on the ride mate its bloody freezing out there today! Good too get some winter miles bagged, you know the saying winter miles summer smiles!

I ran the Kingston breakfast run this morning 16 miler excellent event I must say, did it in a reasonable 1:54 wasn't trying to kill myself over the distance as I didn't want too mess with my training too much... But I had a fun time image
  • 3 hours on the old hack bike, bolted to the turdo in the garage. Cold feet, but no wind chill.

When I went to the bike shop to pick up my machine, there was this other bike hanging there. It was used, but said "to be sold" on it. Yes, it needed a service, but it was specced up to the gunnels.

Cannondale synapse, carbon frame and seat post, carbon TT aero bars, with shifters, ultegra equipment, carbon cranks. Adamo saddle. Mavic Ksyrium wheels.
Complete porn. I'm not buying it, but did have a sit down on it.....

  • Blisters - what frame size and how much? How did you resist?

  • Can't believe no one has asked the key question!

Blisters - what colour was it????

  • Rafiki, which colour is faster?
