Ali - unless you have a reason to think that you need them (e.g. a propensity to cramp) I wouldn't worry about it too much. I can't take any of the 'sports drinks' either and managed fine in IMWA with 30C heat and a not too fine crusting of salt on High5 gels, water, bananas and the odd bar. It's very individual but the research doesn't support the need for additional salt in most people.
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.
Ali have you tried normal food on the bike, for example peanut butter Sarnie? (Carbs, protein, fats and micronutrients all in one) as long as you have a cycle tops with back pockets, caring proper food shouldn't be a problem. Keep trying different things.
Interesting day. Had humpy removed it was a lot more involved than first expected as a lot more of it was hiding under my shoulder and it was also attached to tissure so a lot of pulling , cutting and cauterising going on with me listening in on local anesthetic, bloody throbbingnow and cannot lift my arm without pain surgeon reckoned no training st least until it gets checked in a week
Got red wine at the ready strictly for medicinal puposes
EP no need to apologise i have never c@cked myself and doubted myself before my first IM and i had faced some scarey life challenges before i think cause its a one day cut off thing its just so overwhelming in the end i absolutely loved my 1st and really surpassed my expectations and that was from folowing fink as i knew no one who had done one before
Stanners, are you providing a course review for us? Would be interesting to hear how exposed the course is. Have a good time!
Had my bike repaired and a bike fit this morning. A few adjustments made so looking forward to testing it out later before my first long ride for a couple of weeks tomorrow...
Nerves are kicking in as I have my first ever Duathlon on Sunday. The weather forecast so far looks OK but I think I may have damaged the front wheel on my bike last weekend so have to get it checked over before then. Am wondering why I entered this one as looking at previous results it's for the fast boys and girls only. Ah well do my best and see what happens on the day.
the rain is promised for next week so I think everyone should take advantage of the dry weather and do at least 6 hours on the bike.might be the last chance to enjoy the dry for a few months
Stanners - looking forward to a good ride on Sunday, wind looks like it could be from the southwest, probably the most favourable. Lap of each and in to the boozer for a swift one me thinks
Since EP brought it up, I wear contact lenses and suffer from dry eyes after a long swim, I was planning on putting a spare pair on contacts in my bike bag and some solution, has anyone got any ideas on this? At muchly

EP - if you use daily disposables you might like to consider a trial of monthly lenses - that was my opticians answer for IM.

I wouldn't be sharing anything you learn on your recce, Stanners. It is a race, after all, and not a knitting contest
