Blaydon Race 2013

Some details have appeared about this year's Blaydon Race.

Online entry "will open on Monday February 4th". Like 2012, "online entry will be in four batches" - this year, "the batches will open at 2pm, 4pm, 6pm and 8pm with 500 entries available in each batch".  Each batch will fill.

"You will also be able to download the postal form on February 4th - it will also be available from sports shops and athletics clubs". Last year, the 2000 postal entries filled in 3 days.

In 2013, June 9th falls on a Sunday - the race has "an expected 3.00pm start" - this is what happened back in 2002 which was the last time the race took place on a Sunday.

"In 2013 we will be finishing at the Shibdon Playing fields on Shibdon Road as last year, a bit further on from the shopping centre - we'll be shortening a bit of the route through the Derwent Marina Section to keep the overall distance to 5.9M".

This year's Blaydon Race will use chip timing. If this is chip-to-chip (i.e., a timing pad at both the start and finish) rather than gun-to-chip (just a timing pad at the finish), then this is excellent news.
