Had a good race and finished stronger than I expected in 03:43. Considering we climbed the Eiffel Tower on Friday and Sacre Coeur on Saturday I wasn't convinced there was much left in the legs! Averaged 08:14 until mile 23 when I battled hamstring cramps off and on until the finish.
Likes: organisation, drink/fuel stations (sugar and bananas), easy start/finish points, crowds no-where near London levels so made it easier for friends and family to get about, the big tunnel, the Eiffel Tower in the sunshine, jazz bands and most of all those British supporters who picked up on my Union Jack shorts and gave me a shout out when I passed.
Dislikes: ignorant people crossing the road through the runners, particularly near the start and causing falls/collisions, ignorant runners running shoulder to shoulder in buddy groups making it really difficult to pass, more ignorant runners choosing to walk in the centre of the road rather than make their way to the edge.
All in all a really enjoyable race in near-perfect conditions in a beautiful city. Great atmosphere and a really good medal too. One to do again another day.
MM--Thought the Barbarella recovery pants were great too--Know a lot of men who would have stuck to their training plan just to be able to chase them around Paris!
I got a fleece top this year MM, but if I come back to support next year, what are the chances of you throwing some other items of clothing at me?! How about an extra pair of socks or something. To be honest, I was frozen, I'd have worn anything
Fantastic run for me - 4:22, which is a PB by 20 minutes from last year's London, and I ran the whole thing too, unthinkable this time last year. The weather was absolutely perfect, my nose is a bit pink and the course was lovely.
Thank you so much to the supporting crew - I loved that flag wholeheartedly every time I saw it, and you could see it from miles away! Mr KS enjoyed having you cool cats to hang out with too, and he admitted to me that you'd been on a double decker train - that's one of my life ambitions, jealous!
Now, who else is doing London apart from Eggy and I? Onwards!
Was a great time KeyserSuze - both the time you ran in, and hanging out with Mark. No question, the supporters had fun!
I agree with you on the ignorant folk who just stop in the middle of the road to eat oranges and bananas and get in the way...esp in the narrow parts (35KM) and the people who are non runners helping themselves to drinks etc betting in the way.
35k did it for me, I had to stop completely as there was just no room to keep moving - I was not wishing to stop for drinks or eats. So I got cramp and then had to hobble.
Managed to jog over the line, but up till 35k I was under my wrist band time by a good 5 mins so would have almost certainly done sub 4.30. Bit upset, but had originally thought 4.45, but got 4.40, so happy enough.
As I have postponed my VLM run to next year, I won't be running Paris mara. But I like the idea of leading the official supporter's club jamboree outing again. Maybe we'll have to ask Weedy to use his genius skills to design a custom flag for next year?
Weedy - have you shared the design for the ATM covershot you made for her?
Am getting a 404 Error for your Dropbox link Emmy (file not found). Probably me being daft.
Anybody here in the Twitterati / Tweeps? A few of us are on Twitter. Safe place to (semi-anonymously) post little snippets throughout the day, without the big Facebook privacy sucking monster getting it's tentacles all over your entire private life. Just a thought. I'm TrickyDickyBE if you want to follow. Other people on the thread are on Twitter but I'll let you say so yourself. Good day all.
KS - Added you. Good hanging with Mark - if he needs the inside track on any more Leeds players for Norwich he know's who to ask
Glad you're supporting TD! I was thinking on the flight back (hard to believe I know...) that maybe we could have custom vests for next year's competitors?
Yer_Maj - I've been looking for next year's date for days...
So.. how many of you will be back for more next year..? Who's up for Paris 2014..?
Can stick my name down on that there list please. If only to see the wife again.
TP - Got your message but site won't let me reply. Email me j.pattison.123 at btinternet.com
Emmy - sorry to hear.
TD - I'll get to work on a flag. Can't put ATM's cover up as it doesn't let me upload images direct from my computer. ATM'll have to add it to her site.
I've set up a facebook account thingy - search for Weedy Gonzalez (can you upload pictures to the site? Might be one way round the knackered forum)
Rick - list's amended. I'll repost next Monday
Suze - that's a cracking time. No rush for CD - just when you get a chance.
Danni - how's it going today?
The number in brackets in L'Equippe is your 40k time, altho I'm not sure why they've included it - seems a bit random. Would have though the half-way time would have been more useful
Some of the official race photos have been added. When you click on the photo icon and go to the Maindru site, it comes up with a message saying photos online from Wed PM, but there's a box on the left that you put the race number in and it gives you a few pictures. Guess they'll keep adding them as they process them.
Suze - blood blisters, i'm no expert, but I'd say if it's not aggravating it, leave it unpopped for a few days as the skin is a protective covering stopping germs getting in. When you pop it, the risk of infection goes up. If it's hurting when you walk, maybe pop it with a sterilised needle, put savlon on, then cover with a plaster. I'd maybe wait for advice from some of the doctors here first tho.
good idea TD I'm also on twitter (@KeyserSuze, helpfully)
DLR I'll let Mark know - he did really well about not being able to see the score for the weekend, although as soon as we went through the tunnel he was on the pink 'un in a flash!

Is that the worst unintentional euphemism I've heard in all my life or has Marathon Maus's Aussie state of mind been getting to me?!?
Back home after a FAB weekend - marathon and 24th wedding anniversary. Great to have met so many of you under the arc and afterwards in the pub.
I decided (unwisely) to eat a cold salmon & spinach quiche on the morning of the race...seemed like a good idea at the time. I 'saw' it again at the 28km point as I was as sick as a dog. Felt green around the gills whilst having our photos taken at the arc but thought that it was pre-race nerves. Being ill took some time so came in at 4:09 but it was a good race despite that.
I am going to miss this thread especially as it seems no-one else wants to run Venice in October
TD I think that it was the best unintentional euphimism! It was definitely unintentional - the pink 'un is the Canaries' forum. I think it used to be a tangible pink paper until it moved online. Ha.
Jimbob - Thanks for Pottermoss's number. I wasn't sure that he wanted to be included, as you'd asked him to post his bib (as did I) and he hadn't.
I've added him to the list and he'll be in the video (hopefully. Had a look at some finishes and there seem to be lots of non runners getting in the way of shot )

Orb: yeah - on my finish there was a pace runners flag waving about - but you can see me on a couple of the angles - probably the 3rd one - left camera is the best. I've bought the hi-def so i'll try to pick out the best ones and email you the clips once they email me the link.
Wow. Got back last night. What can I say. First ever Marathon, and went off too slow, then too fast to make up for it. Was walking one minute in every ten for the last few miles, coming in 4 hours nine. Still over the moon with that, and I know what to expect (and to differently) for next time. And there will be a next time.
Congratulations to everyone who did it, and thanks for this thread. Giving myself the next week off running, before getting back into it slowly. Legs are very sore at the moment, probably not helped by the fact we were out drinking untill AFTER the metro shut on sunday, decided to walk back to the hotel (about 2 KM away), and then proceeded to walk a couple of miles in the wrong direction
First marathon completed!! 4hrs 38 - didnt have a time in mind and now wish had managed under 430 but quite happy for a first attempt! (particularly as very little sleep the two nights before due to Parisians partying all night and morning on our street, beeping their horns (is it not possible to just beep once!!?), revving scooters etc - very noisy!)
Really enjoyed the course though and the atmosphere.
Any recommendations for a marathon as good as Paris? (thats no hotter than paris either! the sun felt very warm when running especially since training has involved minus degrees the majority of the time!)
Well done everyone who ran - oh and we spied the flag at the beginning and end great support!

Oops - I see MCM is already on the list, just under the wrong date. And FanFan needs to be added to the runners for that one.

Orb: yeah - on my finish there was a pace runners flag waving about - but you can see me on a couple of the angles - probably the 3rd one - left camera is the best. I've bought the hi-def so i'll try to pick out the best ones and email you the clips once they email me the link.
@Baggie73
my photo at the finish shows a very poor attempt at a mo farah
I wish that I could go back in time and buy it!
Come on OneTit I'll be there! We can drink Sangria around the course.
Link is below and once you've accepted my friend request i'll tag you

thanks orbutt, I missed the requests but thought I'd done it anyway. I probably wasn't paying attention - a lifelong problem.
cheers Embobs! - loads of fantastic memories there
