Welcome Brer - you have stumbled in to the thread at the perfect time for the thread to start to implode with phantom illnesses, false injuries and wholly unnecessary self doubt. I hope your constitution accepts expletives as I can see there being a few coming along over the next week or two.

Shoe porn - got my asics ds and they felt allright during the run but adductor tight now. Probably fook all to do with the shoes and more to do with the head. Will try them on tonights 8 with 3 (maybe - see previous post) and go from there. They aint that much different to the 1160s which are the alternative which raises the obvious question, why am I bothering??

  • Men as you predicted its tales of woe from me.

Work has gone mental, my legs feel bad after a massage and I'm generally far too stressed for my taper. I fu**ing hate work. I don't get paid enough to give as much of a shit as they want me to, so ill be doing as much as I can and taking leave from Wednesday so I can hopefully unwind!

Out last night for a steady 7 miles and my heart rate was through the roof! Stress has a lot to answer for! Might try and blast out some mile reps later to let off some steam!
  • Ps that was a lot of exclamation marks! Have some more for good measure! !!!!!!!!!!!
  • I can do expletives with the best of them during taper time Mennaniaimage

Heow, did you pop into Snowdonia forum as I recognise your name? Or Chester? Happy birthday btw.

Good luck to those on here doing Brighton-that one is on my 'to do' list for next year!

NN-good to see another Spin addict, I have to use that to reduce running mileage (always get injured when I go over 60 miles per week)

Chris - I'm with you - I fu**ing hate work too. Might give it up and become a full time athlete...anyone want to sponser me? I'm really good..honest.

I'm lucky though in that my work is relatively chilled at the moment...so I'm not as stressed as it seems you are. Try and minimise any stress if you can...chill baby. Also - your legs will recover from that massage, but you need to let them - so some mile reps might not be a good idea.

One thing I am struggling with is eating less. Peanut butter will be my downfall.

    5 mile easy today.

  • 15W - Lets set up a runners commune or something!

On the work front its really annoying. I have noticed for a while that things were bubbling ahead to going manic around this time and there is nothing that can be done to avoid it. So infuriating as things have been more than manageable until now (just). I think sometimes you can only do what you can do.

Don't worry about the eating more - it will all come in handy a week from now!

Heow/Chris/Brer - just out of curiosity when was the entry opened for Snowdonia, and do you know how quickly it filled up?  It's one of those races I'm tempted to enter in the future, so I'm wondering when I'd have to look at entering the 2014 event as VLM is enough marathons for me for 2013.

Chris, I feel your pain.  Work has been really quiet for the last few months, but I feared it would all kick off in April.  It has image

  • I agree about work.  Mine is always pretty bad and next week is no different. I'd hoped to be able to get Thursday off to rest and sort before travelling on Friday morning but not a chance. Thursday is always the busy day too so I'm always exhausted when I get home.

5 mile recovery with strides tonight. I might be a rebel and miss the strides. image

JF50 - Actually I'm younger than HeOw but only by a whisker

Lit have you done those mile repeats yet?

No I haven't and I'm not going to. Anyway, I can't because I'm having a massage later and 15W says it wouldn't be a good idea.

  • 15West15West ✭✭✭

You could always do them before the massage....

  • 15West15West ✭✭✭

Also interested in doing Snowdonia, maybe next year.

Oh that's ok then if 15W says no needimage

Well...I am a running guru after all...

  • Hi all, Snowdonia fills up within about 2 months of opening...do it, it's the only one I would do every yearimage Weather usually horrific, mile 24 a mare...but it is amazing.

With an advertising campaign like that its impossible to resist image

  • I did Snowdonia last year, the half and full, absolutely loved it, I love the area, I have done plenty of walking/climbing there over the years, a marathon is fantastic, the hill at Bwylch y Groes is a killer. Best marathon for me by far.
  • Forecast is for strenghening easterly winds. We should have a tailwind for most of the race, especially the last few miles.
  • I might wear the billowy-est of my race vests then and sail to victory

  • chickstachicksta ✭✭✭

agree on the work theme guys. Wish I could do without image. Next week will be hell (boss just told me). Great image

  • chickstachicksta ✭✭✭

no can do image  I believe in the self-fulfilling prophecy. If I pretend to be sick then I will get sick ... on Marathon day. No, have to grin & bear it, just like most of us on here.

  • Plus may look a bit dodgy, claiming to be sick yet running a marathon...
  • I did Snowdonia in 2009, and ran the first 8 miles wearing a bin liner the weather was horrendous !! I did all my training on Dartmoor .to get some serious hill training done

As for work, I have just 2 night shifts tonight and tomorrow left then off till the wednesday AFTER the marathon, image

  • Always looking for positives. At least being busy in work will occupy my mind during taper madness. And I'll be so tired I won't be tempted to run any long / fast runs during the last week. Kind of like a self imposed (and unwanted) extreme taper. Who knows, it may even be good for me. I just have to remember to detatch myself from my laptop from time to time and stuff my face with carbs and drink lots. I always forget to drink when busy! Who am I trying to kid?!! I still hate work! ha.

Just spotted that SIS do gels with nitrates now....would avoid loading up with beetroots in the days leading up to the event...

In other news my OH now has a cold. Hmmm.

  • Avoid her.

    Like the plague.

In fact, I would maker move out. Or at least into some kind of sanitarium.

Oh, and drink lots of vitamin c.
  • literatinliteratin ✭✭✭

Had the massage. Too late to do any mile reps now. Oh well. Also forgot when asking him to sort out my hip flexors that I'm really really really ticklish where my inner thigh joins my hip. Was a bit embarrassing.

Re. work, I think it is okay, but it is detracting from my obsessing about the long-range weather forecast and imagining phantom niggles time.

  • On the work front, I've just finished until the 25th April image My Dad is coming over from Canada to support me at the marathon arriving on Monday so I'm spending the time with him and my Step-Mum while they are here image
