Just looked at entering the Leeds Half Marathon, but I am astonished at how expensive it now is (£26/£28). When I last did this in 2011 i'm sure it was only about £17 or £18. I cannot see how or why it has gone up so much (roughly 50% increase) in just two years.
I now won't be doing this race next year. I know it is part of the Run for All races and the proceeds go to charity, which is good, but what does everyone think of the price? I think it way too much.
There are better half marathons for a lower cost.

save youe money...go to Brussels and do their half marathon instead. 35 000 folk from all over the World take part, the support along the course is amazing as is the scenery. All for 18 quid too! The Leeds half has to be one of the dullest, whoever thought of a 3 mile slog along Kirkstall Road must have been some joker, least you've got Morrisons and the immigration centre to look at.
Oh dear! I live in Sheffield, and have done the Sheffield half a few times, so thought the Leeds half would make a nice change, but I'm not sure now! Is it really that bad?
I've entered but I'm injured ... even more pricey!
bob 1
no it is not that bad it is a good race and Leeds route is not dull
done this race nearly every year since 2003 and it is good
are you allowed to transfer your entry if you cant make the run ? if so anyone interested in transfering their entry ?
I asked yesterday whether you can do this ... no response yet.
i rang and asked if they had a standby list and they said no ! couldnt believe it !
I got an email today to say no transfers!!!
I've entered, although despite changing address and updating my details back in February they've managed to send my race pack to my old address. So the reason why there's no transfers will be because simple admin tasks are a struggle to them.
I'm looking forward to the race, it's challenging until the final 3-4 miles which is flat and gives you a good focus for the remainder of the race. Support is always fantastic as well.
I often run up Stonegate Road then follow the route round the Ring Road to Weetwood and it never gets easy.
At £26/£28 its a very expensive half marathon as there are no transfers, im glad i didnt enter!!!
I am doing sheffield 10k next weekend the lord mayors
The inability to transfer your place is a pretty poor show and somewhat greedy ... there are injured runners and there are also people wanting to run who can't get a place. It encourages "illegal" transfers. Even the Edinburgh Marathon organisers manage to allow transfers.
got 47 mins today at Sheffield 10k not bad for me and it was quite warm aswell loads going off with high jumps etc, fun run
Anyone who can't run it fancy giving up there place if I can arrange a transfer ?
My missus is injured and may have a place if anybody is interested?
Is it transferable?
Not officially but you can have it for £20 if you want to collect from the Heckmondwike area
If sticky isn't interested then I will happily take the pleasant drive to heckmondwike to collect!
Email ycroston@live.com to arrange. Hope the wife recovers from injury!
Thanks for the offer but my wife won't let me sell it as it has her name on the number!
No worries, it's daft that the Leeds half does not make places transferable like other events. Looks like a long training run instead before Edinburgh marathon in 2 and a half weeks!
I'm injured and happy for someone to use my place if they still want it? Even better if it means I haven't wasted the full £27! Admittedly it does say 'Claire' on the running number, but I'm sure with a bit of sticky tape it could be amended
Hi Claire is the place still available? Cheers
I've picked up a knee injury and would like my Leed Half Marathon (tomorrow!) place to be taken by someone that can use it. The number has the name 'Dave' on it, so best suited to a guy
Silly that these things can't be transferred, and I don't have time go through the returns process.
Any interest?
any West Yorkshire area runners 26th April 2014 Huddersfield marathon is reborn
