Thanks Strange. Its a friends birthday that weekend so usually any event organised to that end means it lashes down with rain. Cue the late June heatwave this year!
Ran the first part of the course today untill I missed a right turn after the Smith N Western, then i made it up after that. Still racked up 10k and 470m of elevation gain.
I have done it 3 times including the 'ultra ultra' last year and it is an absolute killer! A sense of humour and the ability to suck it up is essential as the course profile is beyond silly!
A friend and I did a run-throug this morning and there are two trees blocking the path at different places- both between Smith and Western and Juniper Bottom.
Any chance someone has a chainsaw and a need for firewood?
Otherwise the course is in pretty good shape. I did 10 miles of it... 3 more and the job could have been done.
I thought I recognized that name ... Travis, are you the chap who kindly stopped and helped me up after I took a tumble last year? I skinned my shoulder very nicely, on the stony chalk path about 100 yards from the finish.
Muttley- I love the cartoon character. Yes, I did help a runner near the end which must have been you. Thank you for the kind words- it made me blush! Random acts of kindness are supposed to be anonymous!
Let's hope you don't need to return the favour!
P.S. Does anyone else salute the Major when running past?
Managed 20th last year in the special Olympic edition - which required super human effort as I'm in my mid fifties! Not as fit this year but still 'looking forward' to it in a perverse, masochistic way. I don't know how many steps are in this years run but it took me months to forget them last year - recurring nightmare!
There will be a run-through this year, after all, on Sunday 9 June. We will leave at 4pm from the race start, and will do the outward leg only (at half way we will return along the road back to the start). This will take approximately 2 hours - we will be going slowly and stopping regularly. No drinks provided - provide your own. All welcome (including well-behaved dogs and friends).
Not been able to fit a lot of hills in, more slopes, but having done the notoriously hard Sussex Marathon in April, and a veteran of the Munro last year, I know I have the right mental state of mind. My legs, well just trying to do the best I can with them..
Although I couldnt make the afternoon run through I had a cheeky jaunt (read as chuffing gallop) aroundthe first part of the course. Third time Ive been over there in a month or so.
Wouldnt have said it was getting any easier but I feel as though I am better appraised of the run ahead of me.
how do you register for this race? ive tried going on the website but that keeps sending me back here. i ran the south downs last weekend and loved it. thanks in advance,
Box Hill is a Baptism of Fire. Nothing compares to it. Last year I got dehydrated, I had hallucinations, and my whole body went into spasm. Not to be repeated this year.
Is there anyone not able to run this year but who has already bought an entry? I would love to buy it off you as the entry list is now full. Let me know please,
Lee- I have a spare place due to good old fahioned groin strain at the weekend. A real shame as i've been looking forward to the race for about a year. Do you have some contact details?
Any recommendations on footwear? Was contemplating wearing speedcross' but fearing ground may be a tad firm....already have a stress fracture on left foot but fear the padded road shoes wont be grippy enough

The hamstrings of fire. That is all.

Rob - organiser
The run-through was a great laugh - around 15 people turned up and we had a very nice run around the first half of the course.
The race is now full and entry is closed. Sorry, there is no waiting list and no entry on the day.
Hope the hill training is going well!

Mick, the organiser put a post on the previous page saying the event is full and no waiting list is available.
... But if you email me at rob at trionium dot com, I should be able to find you a place....
Run the a to b leg last night, plus a little extra for good measure, 15.2k of hilly delights.
Cheeky little route!
Hi Dr Rob
Thank you very much for the guided tour.
My first half marathon & really looking forward to it!
D
Derrick, this is a wonderful introduction to your first half marathon
(Points and laughs)
Hey everybody, he says this is his first half marathon! The mad fool, little does he know ...
My last running only challenge was the JP Morgan Chase 3.5 mile run around Battersea Park in 2012
I have no doubt that it will be hard in Boxhill. Bring it on!
I hope you suffer Derrick.....may mean I get out of the circuit training on the Sunday. Will gladly pay for a few beers Saturday to anaesthetise!
No pain (Boxhill half), no gain (a few paid for beers)
7 sleeps.

Hi All,
Is there anyone not able to run this year but who has already bought an entry? I would love to buy it off you as the entry list is now full. Let me know please,
Hey Dr Rob, just double checking... we are doing the traditional 13.1mile Munro, you haven't snuck in any extra miles or hills this time
still recovering from Endure24 last weekend, so this is gonna be tough going for me...
looking forward to the challenge.
Lee- I have a spare place due to good old fahioned groin strain at the weekend. A real shame as i've been looking forward to the race for about a year. Do you have some contact details?
'Just' 13.1 this year...
Hi Bryano,
Yes ring me on 07768 863144 and I will arrange to meet up and pay you,etc
That's good. But I think I would have still been crazy enough to do it, had it been longer.
lee - i left you a message - did you still want my place - be a shame to see it go to waste if you or anyone else wants it.
