Hi, I did my first triathlon today and it was fabulous - I spent last night reading through this forum and it eased my anxiety somewhat. Whoever said to pout your socks on and roll them off, just leaving the toe sticking out - genius!
Now, where can I buy a bargainous but bright tri suit from?
Comments
Love the enthusiasm! So your next race will be?
Sadly I bought my tri from a very lovely tri shop in Edinburh that I cant remember the name of!
Very well done you.
How do you feel about yellow.............
And there it is!
Well done Nykie. How do you feel about longer triathlons?
Erm, the suit I borrowed for today was orange (Wetherby Runners colour) so yellow isn't far off but I'm afraid I'm not quite up to longer distances yet
I'm thinking about the Leeds Express in July. Still a sprint distance but hey...
Well done Nykie. So how did it feel? Give us lurkers the low down
It was great. I entered it ages ago and was concentrating on the London marathon training when I got injured so was so busy worrying about that that the tri snuck up on me. I'm a really slow swimmer and hadn't had time to practice front crawl breathing, so I did breast stroke and had my mountain bike with nobbly tyres as my road bike is an old one where you have to let go of the handle bars to change gear and it still scares me.
But it was fabulous! I loved the variety and the atmosphere and I loved the fact that nobody could really tell where you were in terms of times, as the slower swimmers set off first.
I've always said that it should be mandatory for everyone to do a marathon. Well, I'm adding tri to that one
glad you enjoyed it.they are suprisingly addictive.........
Thanks David and Seren, I know, but surprisingly expensive...
Well done on completing the first one, youre on a slippery slope now
Nice one Nykie! As BB says, its a slippery slope, but a fun one...
I popped my try cherry on Sunday, what a fantastic feeling to complete it. Now I've definately got the bug and am planning more, and training harder!!
I did my first tri on Monday, it was great!! Swimming and transition speed needs some work but other than that my bike and run times were good!! And yes, I'm hooked
Well done Nykie, Milou and Robert!! It just gets better/worse** from here on!!
** delete as applicable
Yes, well done Milou and Robert! It's a great feeling, isn't it?
Well done to you too Nykie!! Yes it is a great feeling, and nice to be able to call yourself a triathlete!!
I want in!!!
Go for it Tortoise, it's great!!
Im buying some road tyres for my specialized hard tail before i take on the london to southend bike ride.but is a tri suit compulsery for a triathlon?
no - it just makes life easier as you can swim, bike and run in the same kit. I did my 1st tri in a pair of lycra running shorts for the swim (no wetsuit despite a sea swim), and pulled on a vest in transition for the bike/run.
My event was an indoor swim so I just bought some try shorts and pulled on a vest type base layer that I got from Aldi's on to complete the run and bike sections.
The one I did had a lot of beginners, and some of the girls were running into the changing rooms after getting out of the pool, taking their swimsuits off and putting running stuff on before running to the bikes!
