Yep Screamy, it's like they miss the rational thought process of "hang on, i'm just a very inexperienced runner, just starting out, doing my times in training, on my own, yet am getting close to the best in the area/region/country/world" (delete depending on how deluded)
That would make some slightly reconsider, if just possibly they'd got it wrong.
best i could find according to good is the fastest Juniors time of 12:47:53 by Hagos Gebrhiet who set it in june last year aged 18, UK wise the 5000k record for u-17 has stood at 14:41:8 since 1974! good work Nicky Lees!
Park run best for an Under 17 is 15:10, world junior record is ~12:50 (thats under 20s I think) UK under 17 all time is 14:41 (Nicky Lees 1974) according to gbr athletics
Best comparison though is Galen Rupp broke Pre's US trials record last year by running 13:22. The record had stood fro 40 years. These are senior men.
I can't believe you lot are trying to do detective work on whether or not the calories match up to his stated time for 5K. He's claiming to have casually cranked out a 13:38 on his own, on a treadmill, at age 16 for f***'s sake! Of course it doesn't make sense!
you lot are too slow.....I have already contacted an american scout and a detective agency to trace matts closest track....just waiting for Matt to say when he is going so I can tell the scout and I am set to make a fortune for the set up fee.....whilst you lot have been disbeleiving that america has missed their next olympian........i have been using my contacts to obtain his IP address and track him done........
you can't believe the money you lot have missed out on
sideburn...you don't need to tell Matt these things.he's a young lad with a computer.....he knows how special he is.......he has just been hiding his light under a bushell so that he doesn't get dragged away from his home life into the big time too young........
but know i'm on the case the whole world will soon know just how special he is
Probably ran it as some sort of game/app on his phone.
In my employment days I was forced to associate with some guy who used to try claiming that because he could get a good score on his hand held 'golf' game, it was clear he'd be a good golfer.
I'd remark that it was simply another 'hand job' which was why he was good at it.

I'd respect someone that did admit they were wrong. I think most people would.
Your missus told me that mine was bigger than yours
She was talking about your bald patch

Which begs the question, what is the 5k record for a 16 year old?

I know of a place with a 400m track, i'll drive up there sometime today
you show em matt,
to be honest the speed you run i would jog up there, not drive up as it will be quicker.
what distance will you do on the track? 1k, 3k 5k ?
That's blown your cover now. Like any sane country would be daft enough to let 16 year olds drive cars!
Oh....
He's not easily ruffled, I'll give him that. That's a good quality in a sporting champion
Any relation to that Lance chap from Texas?
yes -but they are making him wait a couple of years for the gun licence
I was waiting for someone to mention him; Austin, Texas is 'only' a 3 hour drive away from Houston.
HI

You may find this site interesting Matt; (USA Track and Field)
http://www.usatf.org/statistics/records/view.asp?division=american&location=outdoor%20track%20%26%20field&age=youth&sport=TF
No USA 5000m record for a 16 year old but a Billy Harper did a 3000m race in 8m 27s on July 23rd 1993 (Cambridge MA).
At the same pace as him you would do 5000m in 14m 5s
The USA 5000m record for a 17-18 year old is 14m 27s Yong-Sung Leal July 28th 2001 (Sacramento CA)
Good luck!

I know, I know. It's not like the rest of the thread has been too accurate!
Matt, you are a supreme human being. I hope you've insured those rocket proppelled legs of yours.
I've just uploaded a run to Strava that I did today in London. Apparently at one stage I ran 400m in 36 seconds and also half a mile in 1:44.
Maybe I should go running with Matt
Matt, please get someone to film your run !!
he surely won't be back, once he's sampled a proper measured run.
What if he goes to an indoor track and comes back with 45s lap times?
if it's a 400metre track he won't get anywhere near 45, unless he's using some kind of vehicle.
Probably ran it as some sort of game/app on his phone.

🙂
how on earth did he reckon that Ric? Pure ridiculum.
I meant if he mistakenly thinks a 200m track is 400m!
Ric..As a guitarist I've come across idiots who play Guitar Hero and think they somehow play the guitar.
