And my US colleagues won't be at work either. But then neither will I - we get the US Hols off too because we work 40 hrs per week instead of the 38.5 our contract calls for. Good arrangement.
However, it isn't so good that the US Government is in such deep shit economically that each and every US civilian worker throughout the Department of Defense is being forced to take off one day unpaid every week from now until October. It's a measure called "sequestration" or alternately " furlough".
4th July in America is a great day - I was lucky to be in New York 3 years ago, and went to see a baseball game at the Yankee Stadium, and then watched the fireworks in the evening.
Was in Boston this year for Memorial Day, which was much more moving. Had the privilege to run their Run To Remember half marathon, which is to raise money for fallen police and armed forces members, which took on extra meaning after the events during and after the marathon - a truly moving event in itself.

Training in the morning, and watching the TdF in the afternoon
I'll probably be doing some sort of tempo / threshold session.
i thought i might have a pizza
If I'm going to college next year I have to do an intro day, otherwise I may go visit my husband.
Y'all going out to enjoy the fireworks?
There won't be any fireworks. We're Brits - we don't have Independence Day.
Do you have the UK and US sites mixed up?
No, I stopped by to say hi but don't recognize anyone. It's been a while since I've visited your side of the pond. Where's Coach Sherwood?
Not heard of him Runny Egg - it must have been a while!
Those aerie familiar names. It has been a while indeed.
That explains it - I've "only" been on here since 2007
American Independence day get's me as excited as all the other national days of countries I don't come from.
Having said that Bhutan Day is crazy in our house, gift giving, amazing food and lots of alcohol.
Put it in your diaries - 25th December
I was once in the US for Independence Day, it was like your average Bank Holiday Monday in the UK except with some fireworks at the end...
Stateside Halloween is far more fun!
I've got my yoga class.
Going to work, then a run in the evening. No fireworks, which is a shame, cos I like fireworks!
Village fun run.
I've got to wait in for someone to come to service my hot water cylinder
Don't think there will be fireworks
Isn't this like us asking the French if they'll be celebrating the anniversary of Waterloo?
Waterloo is an excellet song by ABBA.
i celebrate 4th July becsause my other half is from the states. but its no more than a "date night"
I celebrate St George's day.
Besides, American Independence Day celebrates the Americans defeating the British. Why would I celebrate that?
In historical terms it did Britain a favour actually. Losing the "first" empire allowed the British to go and build a much bigger second one.
I'll be working. Made far more pleasurable and peaceful by the fact that my US clients won't be.

Hope everyone is enjoying our holiday.
The fun run was very well attended thanks. There was an ice cream van and a barbecue at the end.
Are you having a nice day Runny Egg?
