    Hi All,

TR, got lost on the way home then? image You could always follow T Rex's 3 week taper plan, works for him.

    5.5m, 46mins, 360 ft of ascent.

Think I've figured out what it is with the sudden speed increase. Up to the weekend, I'd been going out 7/8am and just going out for a run, making it shorter/longer depending how I felt. The only thing I would have had since early the previous evening would be a cup of coffee.

Yesterday & today I've been up for a few hours before I've run, had a bit more liquid, some food etc. It's amazing what difference a bit of nutrition makes. Who'd have guessed eh?  image

Been looking at my runs so far this year, just to see how bad it was. (Table below, hope it comes out ok). Err, think you can clearly see the difference between being a stressed out bunny up to 31st May, and being a very happy, relaxed, unemployed bum since then.

Chimney - loving the stats but watch you don't overdo it 22 miles up to 109 in a month seems quite a jump

Brer - ummmm think i'm trying your recovery plan - 5.5 miles last night first 1.75 of them up on first (track) part of a fell race thighs not happy by top and was a bit worried i'd made a mistake but then on the undulating top section everything eased off nicely.  Got told i was getting faster (yeah right) but when i checked my previous time for this run i'd knocked 5 minutes off it and that's after a half ??????  Only front top of thighs protesting slightly which is weird as on race day it was the back top of thighs.  Rest tonight though i think image

TR41 - oh i love a good plan don't always stick to it but love making itimage

  • jenfjenf ✭✭✭

Blimey, it's quiet on here for ages, then I have a few days away n I miss loads!! I need to go n have a read back of everyone properly.

  • Blimey Chimney, vast increase in mileage.

Hiya Tr41, life good heyimage Panad, have you moved?

Hello jenf, it's like Coronation Street here, a different plot every dayimage

Out with dog for a very slow post-Shrewsbury 9 mile bimble last night. Legs ok but off to Physio tomorrow for a bone cruncher. Inadvertently....got myself a nice LSR booked for Sunday... a marathon in Coventry. 12 laps around a country estate. Number 9 of 2013 by June will get me ahead of scheduleimage

  • panadpanad ✭✭✭

No, not moved house (yet) Brer, but long term plan has been put into action which sees us having bought a house just outside Llanberis to renovate image  Hoping to do as much as we can ourselves, slow work, but loving it as a bolt hole on days off and holidays (with mr panad being a vicar days off don't become days off if we stay at home as there's always something to do/people on phone or at door!)  It definitely feels like home already, possible helped by it being only a couple of miles from where we lived when we the girls were born/first went to school etc!  And of course the running opportunities in the area are just about liveable with image

been over there today in fact and managed to find myself a nice little 12.5 miler which included running up snowdon (without incident this time!)

I fear you may be suffering from end-of-the-year madness..will that not make 4 marathons in 4 weeks by the end of next weekend? or have you still got a week off before the next one?  You are officially nuts image

  • ChimneyChimney ✭✭✭

    Morning all,

Yep, the mileage increase is a tad above that old 10% rule! Everything seems to be working, and nothing hurting. Well, not any more than usual anyway.....

Jeez Brer, All I can say is that I second Panad's comment, you are nuts. Good on yer!

Chrissi, congrats on your ' Recovery ' run, and after a half as well. (Was that a half pint of expresso?image)

Panad, I was trying to persuade Mrs C to let us buy a refurb property in Dinorwig/Deiniolen area but she wouldn't go for it. image

Did have a rest day yesterday which contained driving up to Chesterfield at 6am to go looking round properties, the last one at 17:30. Both the dogs and I have to have access to off road so at each property we walked/jogged a mile or two to see what the tracks/paths were like. Went to see some friends in Dronfield for tea, stayed a while to catch up and didn't get home till the early hours of the morning to find the street and every house in darkness. The power had gone off, back on by the time we got up (Not that long ago!).

I'll take a 6m bimble this afternoon to play on what counts as hills round my way and think about two properties that we saw. One is almost perfect in a gorgeous location but is tiny and would mean I'd have to have a serious word about my hoarding instincts but the heart just screams to buy it, the other is almost perfect, except for the wow factor, it does everything between acceptable and well, very practical, convenient for all sorts of things and it is the one the head says to go for.

Decisions, decisions. We've been looking at houses for the last few months. Missed out on a couple we could have quite happily lived in. Given our position at the moment, we have accepted we may be putting our stuff into storage and living in our big tent for a while!

Agghhh, caught up at last!! Some fantastic running team! The TMW sounds really good Chrissi/Stilldreaming, well done! I may try and fit it in next year, but I'm also dreaming ultra...

Brer, you are a star! imageI can say no more

JD/Chrissi, please excuse my ignorance, but 'skin so soft' ???

Panad, I love the sound of your house. image

Hi Chimney, pleased to meet you. I'm a SNOD first timer, and fairly new to running.I like your photo, where are you?

Talking of plans TR41, mine starts monday. I've had a nice easy running week this week, my daughter has been home, so we've been on a few easy coastal path runs together, which I've really really enjoyed, no idea of pace! Nothing major planned this weekend, but I start SERIOUS monday (lol)

  • Panad, the new pad sounds brilliant, a nice little project for you both in between training.

Chimney, plenty of choice in Derbyshire at the moment, but I have noticed property is going up around here and is selling quick compared to the last couple of years.

jenf, Skin So Soft is an Avon body spray which is lush, esp the tinted one but it is the most effective anti-midge stuff I've come across. Apparently, Scottish gamekeepers and fishermen use it and it's as cheap as chips.

Re. marathon madness. Renewed goal is to hit the 13 in 2013 at Snowdonia if body can deal with it. Just returned from physio, quote of the day " Your legs know what you are doing to them"   I'm glad my legs do, cos my brain obviously doesn't!!

  • ChimneyChimney ✭✭✭

The only day so far I have done exactly what it said on the plan was Monday when it was a rest day.

Today was 5m steady - Go along the canal to the weir, turn round and run back. Maintain pace throughout.

Actual, run for a few hundred yards, come across another dog, stop, pick up my dogs, put one under each arm, run on past said dog, put mine done again. Repeat. Not a good recipe for a steady pace. Ended up going to the road at the other end and came back across country and did 6.5m.

Jenf, I loved SNOD so much, I keep going back. You get a nice little slope to warm up on, you wonder why anyone in their right mind would try and drive through Bethgelert on Marathon day, and the playful challenge of the hill at Waunfawr followed by the sprint down the other side into Llanberis. You'll experience wonderful support around the course, the locals come out in force in various places, you get to see the beautiful Snowden range in and could experience four seasons in a day. You'll love it. image  My current profile pick is ice climbing near Chamonix, friends got a flat there. Very handy! a few seconds standing on my points  while I'm desperately trying to put an ice screw in will mash my calves quicker than any run I've ever done....

Brer, did I see somewhere you're doing Abingdon as well? might have to race you there. (That's in the car on the way there, not the race. You'd kill me!). If you're willing, could you tell me where you are in Derbyshire -Town, or general area, i.e Matlock or to the north of Derby etc and if I could pick your brain for local knowledge of what an area is like, cheers.

Been away with work in Cambridge.  One evening went for a run and I even managed to have a mini-adventure on a 10-miler in the Fens!

More later.  Bit shattered at the moment.

Just entered the Thames Path 100, 2014.  Only opened this morning and almost full already.

    Morning all,

Did a little 4m potter yesterday early morning before going back up to Chesterfield to look at houses. Seen one that we really, really like........

Managed to hurt my right leg. I say I managed, it was kinda my fault. And it was before I'd even started. Foxy is the Attack first forget any questions type of terrier (Rescue and has resisted all attempts by amateurs & professionals alike to be socialised with other dogs). We went round a corner and met a greyhound on a very long very loose lead that came straight into Foxy's (A now snarling Foxy) face. I don't want someone else's' vet bill so put my leg out to get in between them. Foxy unfortunately had already left the ground in a perfect trajectory for the greyhounds face, which just happened to now have my right thigh in it resulting in him sinking a canine into me. A bit painful, and slightly swollen this morning. Think I should get him to brush his teeth more often?

Also found a good road near my intended new area to live in to practice the start to Pen-Y-Pass. Go to Barlow and run to the Owler Bar roundabout, bonus being that there is a pub there. Gives a bit of extra incentive image (4.5m, 850 foot of ascent)

Out for a 15m pootle today, thinking of taking a drive out to Uffington and running along the Ridgeway. Not much ascent in the run but as the day looks so nice the views will be wonderful.

Enjoy yourselves and remember the suncream today image

After a busy day at work set out for a linear river feature aon my map at about 2100 for an evening run.  Got a bit confused in the marina area - there seemed to be a lot of channels of water and various footbridges.  Ended up going along a dusty track well away from water.

After about a mile of dead straight track I found I had blundered into a speedway track and met a security guard with an enormous dog that he was struggling to control.  I mumbled some apologies and set out along a farm lane and since that didn't seem to be going anywhere, took a left along another dead straight track, black soils either side, under a big, darkening sky.

Along here you could say I had my low point. Most of this track was actually below sea level, and ahead I could just make out a small rise to the 0m contour.  East Cambs not very good for hillwork!!

Finally met my linear water feature and it was another 3 miles or so along this back to the marina.  I could see why I had missed the other end of this path.  It was badly overgrown with crasses, cow parsley, nettles, and other, strange plants as high as my chin in places.  It was hard to keep up a good pace through this lot.  Every now and then there were what I suspected water inlets with footbridges that may or may not have rotted through underneath my feet.  I didn't risk it and jumped these, anytime expecting to fall through.

I had seen a wonderful sunset with the water reflecting orange and a disused windmill dark against the last of the sun's light.  Very atmospheric.  As it got to about 2230 I was, as usual, in a predicament where no-one would have been able to find me.  This is where you need mental strength - keep going, all paths must end somewhere, and eventually this one did and I got back to the B&B about 2310 looking in quite a state. I think the owner had expected to me to go around the village green a couple of times.

Felt good, though.  Some fitness is coming back and have lost about 11lb since February, which helps.

  • Morning all!!

Chimney all sounds good mate apart from your own dog biting you!! loved snod description  too!

T-Rex good to have you back look forward to hearing about adventureimage

Brer you really have gone bonkers! you do know that don't you?

Well went out this morning to see if I could still actually run for 2 hours did 14.5 miles at steady pace with a few hills chucked in the middle. 1 hour 58 min splits where 8:08, 8:08, 8:11, 8:12, 8:03, 8:19, 8:17, 8:58, 8:09, 7:53, 8:00, 8:10, 7:33, 7:37, 4:26. so happy with that felt strong on hills which is handy as Snowdon international race is in 3 weeks image My 16 week snod plan starts on July 8th.

  • Chimney..hope you have had a successful day matey! If you need translations, let me know!

Hey, Mr Rex is back...only you and I can manage getting into such scrapes on these trots.  Yeh, TR41..hills and more of em boyo!

Well, I've just returned form a very hot cross country marathon, very sunburnt and dehydrated...but...came second lady overall in a time of 3:41:22 tbc and got myself another bit of silverware! Also, got 1st vet prize..how amusing...a new Sports Braimage voucher. Really would have preferred trainer voucher though! Off for a shower..I stink like a rotting cabbage.

  • ChimneyChimney ✭✭✭

    Hi All,

T Rex, that wouldn't have been Mildenhall speedway by any chance? We had a farm at Lakenheath so know the fens very well. Always wondered if that was why I like hills, having none in my formative years!

TR, 1:58 for 14.5m and that was an LSR was it? Sub 3:30, or 3:15 for you at Snod this year then? image

Brer, I did see some examples of sign language, they were fairly universal though....  Your running is really top notch isn't it. Absolute congratulations. Do you need a bigger display cabinet?

I made an error today. And not for the first time. And probably not for the last time either. But as they say what doesn't break you makes you stronger it was a good thing right?

I don't think 3 coffees, two pints of beer and a bottle of red wine was enough liquid yesterday, and nor was the couple of cups of coffee this morning. It may have helped if I'd actually taken some water with me, but CBA...... Got a tad dehydrated.

A BK breakfast, chilli chicken lunch, and a slice of quiche when we got home yesterday wasn't really enough fuelling. Having just another slice of quiche with my coffee this morning wasn't either.

Getting held up and not going out for another two hours after this, (Meant I didn't get to the ridgeway), having not had any more liquid or fuel was really only going to end one way wasn't it!

15m, (Either 900' or 1100' of ascent depending on whether you believe GarminConnect or MemoryMap of mostly tracks. And time? That doesn't really matter does it? It was an LSR, it was hot, I wasn't prepared. I can give myself loads of excuses.

TBH, I'm fine with it, 9:44 average.  June's overall average, sliced to your favourite is - Mode 8:19, Median 8:44, standard average 8:50 so 9:44 would be about right currently......

Did come back absolutely shattered though. Recovered amazingly quickly with some liquid and food inside me, who'd have guessed eh?

    June ended up with 135m, 20hrs, 6.8mph.

Oh, and didn't put any suncream on either as I rushed out the door.

Hope the rest of you enjoyed the day.

Chimney- if it was me, I would now be paying my own- last- vet's bill....image Nice run and mileage though

T Rex- sounds like you are back to normalimage

    TR41- good pace there, mateimage

I ran Llanelli 10k today- the route is along an exposed coastal path and it was blowing an absolute gale. This, combined with the 4 climbs, saw me running at around half mara pace- still ok for this stage and in those circumstances. managed around 12th place in 37.38 (according to my garmin).4m recovery run this afternoon to round off the week and the monthimage

Weekly Stats (recovery): 74.96m in 9.28.02 (7.35 av)

    Monthly stats: 409.60m in 51.47.05 (7.35 av)

Next month is the first FULL marathon training monthimage

Thanks Brer et al, now I need to seek out an Avon rep!!

Chimney, I'm going to reread your post about SNOD every time I have a wobble and feel I can't do it!

No impressive runs for me at weekend image I confess to too much wine! But today is Day 1 of mara prep... an easy 6 miles!

I also have to confess to entering an ultra!! oops!!

    TRex - another fine adventure

Jenf - how far and when and where

    Brer - brilliant again

Chimney - hope leg ok and foxy

Ditched run yesterday in favour of shopping image my head/sinus was/are totally stuffed up (made the car journey fun) hoping a little less yuk by hometime as getting twitchy - I NEED TO RUN

  • T RexT Rex ✭✭✭

Chimney - yes, it was that exact speedway track.  Massive place.  A few american military types were in the Griffin pub afterwards - an usual place that I left at 0200 and I wasn't the last to leave.

You were used to the black soils and big skies, then?

How about Ridgeway 85 this year? You've missed the early bird entry but still plenty of time.

3 nice easy miles last nightimage

  • ChimneyChimney ✭✭✭

    Morning all,

T Rex, Griffin at Isleham? I see closing time hasn't altered in that part of the world since I used to be there! I had my first Helicopter ride near Isleham, but didn't know anything about it being unconscious at the time. I'd tripped over a cross country fence. It wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't for the fact that I was on a horse at the time, that was on top of me the other side of the fence. I don't know exactly what happened, the last memory I have is 3 strides before the fence thinking ' Sh1t, we're not going to make this'. Woke up in Addenbrookes 3 days later......image Sunday April 1st 1984, hell of an April fools eh?!

I know the fertile black soils well, along with the steep sided drainage ditch's we used to jump over as kids, using poles for the wider ones, getting home covered in some evil smelling water & detritus when it went wrong, but that was half the fun of it image

'fraid I will have to give the 85 a miss, really not I any condition to get it done in 48 hours, let alone 24.....image

Chrissi, leg is a tad red and swollen around the bite and a bruise is starting to appear, well I hope that is what the yellowing around it is image Foxy suffered no after effects, lucky him eh?

Rested yesterday, as per plan, and 5.5m along the canal this morning at 8 minute miles. Felt I could have gone faster and was still feeling quite fresh when I got home.

Put an offer in on a house in Chesterfield, yes that one Brer, been accepted so should be up that way early/mid next month image

then it's Welcome to proper hills

Good luck with house move Chimney!

Chrissi, I've entered the Born to Run 40 mile ultra Llanelli, its home turf so I know the score! I marshalled this year. Not really sure how my legs will stand up to the training (or my mental state for that matter) but I really want to do one, and figured this would be a good first as its impossible to get lost and its all on a cycle path. But first I need to concentrate on SNOD!! Started my plan yesterday, 6miles easy, no problem!! lol

    hi all

I am doing this marathon this year, can you tell me please what sort of plans you are following? One from RW?  I was thinking more about hours and hills rather than the schedule I followed for London. Mine will start 8/7 too, but I did get out on Sunday up and down trails and hills for 1hr 20 mins.
