Running Shoes suitable for orthotics

Hi  can anyone recommend any support shoes for road running that are suitable with orthotics please? I've found many aren't deep enough in the heel so you feel like you're coming out of them.

I've entered the York Marathon (my first!) and I desperately need some new shoes.

Thanks.

I have orthotics and now only wear neutral shoes, normally without too much cushioning. I just remove the insoles. I find the orthotics give me plenty of cushion. When I first got my orthotics I put them in my support shoes and they caused me loads of trouble with my knees, flat neutrals rectified this. That's just my experience, it depends on what your correction is.

Do people out there really just add orthotics to the shoes they have and then wonder why they find the shoes don't fit properly.

The orthotics are meant to replace the insoles the shoes came with.

Also, if they are custom made orthotics, they will need to be adjusted to your shoes...

  •  I also have the same problem finding shoes as i wear orthotics over the last few years also i have broad foot sometimes i end up buying mens runing shoes

Take the orthotics to the shop and try them in various shoes....

I have to say i entirely agree about the neutral shoe thing that Gavin is talking about. I wouldn't go anywhere near a supported shoe now.

  • If you are going to use orthotics, I would recommend that you put them in neutral shoes.  When I worked in running retail, I never gave support shoes to people who wanted to use orthotics.  It was either or.

  • Custom orthotics are often recommended to be placed on top of the existing insole in your shoe. Check with your specialist and see what they say. Also whoever prescribed your orthoics should have anaylsed your gait and recommended a shoe change if necessary.

  • I've used custom orthotics for a few years, as advised by the specialist who made them for me I wear them all the time (except in sandals at the beachimage ).

I've never removed the insoles from footwear, but always try new shoes on with the orthotics.

I use neutral shoes as the orthotics do the correction I need.
