1st place, wow well done tommy or Eoin even, i noticed there was a few first timers amoungst the top lot. I was in 21st, so you probably would of been finished as i was only half way through my third lap lol

It is a really good park and they have only just started making frequent use of it, with events and what not.

Your have to come again, when there isnt an event on, then you can full apprecaited it, as the normal finish line, allows for spectators to properly cheer home the finishers.

The brother lives just outside preston so i know the area and would be about now and again. Will definitely do it again.

good course and good to get a good race. Usually find myself stray 2nd or 3rd behind some flier!

I wish i had that problem lol

youve done really well to win it on your first go and like you say its a tough route.

So how is running in Belfast ? Is the marathon there any good and have you done the Dublin marathon ?

  • Options

We have 5 parkruns in belfast now. Running is booming in ni with i think 9 parkruns and a multitude of lcal races.

i've not ventured to marathon yet but train with many who have done belfast and dublin. Dublin is by all accounts a great marathon and i habe no doubt you will enjoy it.Belfast has a lot to work on. If they would take constructive criticism on board it could be a good marathon but they don't. Derry marathon this year was great.

tough course but sure as tough for everyone else! Enjoyable course though.

    Nice park run Tommy Gunn.

Rick good luck with the cycling, helping your lad.

Ultra was 42miles Sjpc, and lovely. Really tough nearly 5000ft of up (I expected 3500 to 4k, ouch), but the views, wow. Worth the ridiculous cheap entry £12 just for that. 9 hours of running but worth it. Road running marathons may forget for a Long while. This was way more fun.

  • Options

£12 thats good value for a race over that distance cat and it sounds like it was well worth it!

Thanks Tommy, i am looking forward to Dublin and yes it does sound like ParkRun is taking off big time over in Belfast.

    9 miles for me tonight

Been a while since I posted due to injury but finally had results from my MRI scan and I have some wear/tear and inflammation in right ankle due to my posture and over pronating. Specialist said its nothing like first feared by physio and plan is to inject the ankle under x-ray and local anesthetic 21st August. Then correct posture with orthotics.

Hopefully be running in another 3/4 weeks and able to join in the thread a bit more image

Fingers crossed with the rehab Moobs. Hope all goes well. Longest I've been out for was 6 weeks last year and it did my nut in!

Ive upped my mileage over the last 3 weeks and been hitting 70 miles a week. quite high really as im only really concentrating on 5kms at the minute. Plenty of easy paced runs and also done some hard sessions in the heat. I had a go on a treadmill in an altitude chamber last week which I really enjoyed. only did it for the experience to see what it was like. i ran 5 minute intervals with 90 seconds recovery and covered 9km in 33.30. I certainly put myself through it.

I finally dipped under 16 mins for 5km too as I ran 15.51 at Lancaster yesterday so things still heading in the right direction.

  • Options

70 miles a week, wow that's very impressive. Ive got to do 50 next week and that a be the most ive ever run in a week!!

Where did you find a treadmill in an altitude chamber ?

Well done on the sub 16 5k, id be happy with sub 20 lol currently my 5k PB is 20:01 ,but ive not run a race at that distance for a few years now.

My longest period out was maybe 2 months, runners knee.....then it was a few weeks of running no further than 2 miles. Hated that period!!

Any one else looking forward to Mo V Bolt and Mo running the Great North this year ?

Any one running the Great North this year on here ?

Hi all, Hope everyones training and racing is going well. Very limited running for me recently but I did marshall the Lakeland100/50 at the weekend.

It was such an incredible weekend/event in every imaginable way...smashed course records, every extreme of weather, tears of joy, tears of sorrow and pain, success, failure and amazing support from 1000's incl family, friends, marshals and strangers.

I think I may have a target now for 2014...the 50 route of course as I'm not quite insane enough to attempt the 100.  I'm throwing to the run the Rivington Ultra26 in Nov and take it from there.

  • Options

ooh whats this rivington run all about ?

And sounds like it was a great event at the weekend.

Have you read the ultramarathon man book, well worth a read. Even if your not planning on moving up to ultra running.

  • Options

Was thinking of doing Rivington in November, it's a marathon not an ultra though..image 10k option good for my missus too.

Sjpc, thunder run is THE best event of the year! 24 hour team relay on 10k trail lap. Do as many as you can. Camping is included in price, runs 12pm Sautrday to 12pm Sunday through the night so head torches required. bonkers, and very inspiring.

have a look here at our team last year for a little flavour.

This year was much tougher, baking hot till 7pm 25-30 degrees, then torrential rain 8pm till 4am... Cue freezing cold, mud like you wouldn't believe worse than most xc courses. But still fun. 5 laps for me, 50k.

Well done on the mileage Simon. cant be bad getting a course PB on tired legs! Proof that the trainings working. Can you month take your trainers on holiday? retool mine on my honeymoon the other year to mexico and ran on 10 out of the 14 days. I want even training for anything at the time. Haha.

Running the length of Britian will be some achievement, two years ago I ran the length of the Leeds - Liverpool canal (127 miles over 5 days, roughly a marathon a day) and that took some planning and training so I appreciate just how difficult the length of the britian will be!! :-/

Got a 5km PB at Lancaster just over a week ago and ran 15.51 then ran 15.58 at the sale sizzler on Thursday so managed to dip under 16 mins!!! It was bloody warm at sale and I nearly passed out when I finished!

That impsressive running the Leeds-Liverpool. I have always wondered about that. Well done you!

And well done on yet another PB. I like raining in Lancaster, its always well organised.

Not sure about taking my trainers on holiday, might get me in trouble lol

I will give the great northwest half marathon a go I think, got 2 10ks coming up then hoping to move up to half and full marathon next year.

  • Options

hey laura sounds like youve got a great running plan ahead and well done on aiming for the full marathon, hats off to you.

Ive recently found, as well as running sites teh Guardian newspaper is a really great running resource, worth a visit.

The Great North West Half Marathon isnt the greatest course wise......but if you get chance, get signed up to the Freckleton HM for next year. You wont regret it.

Edinburgh is a good marathon that is easy to get into and a big crowd comes out for it. Plus the beer and burger stands afterwards on the park certainly make it worth the efffort he he
